Golf/GTI VI :: Clunks / Knocks In Suspension During Rain
Jun 26, 2013
I have a problem with my Golf 6 GTI '10 - for several months when it rains or when it is wet/humid I've been hearing single irregular dull knocks from the front suspension (sometimes I can hear two quick knocks one after another). Most of the times the knocks are heard from the driver's side (left side) from the front when I drive slowly on roads which are more or less uneven.
The knocking stops when it is warm and dry. My Golf's mileage is 54,000 kilometers. I've checked the suspension many times and everything seems to be perfect.

Have all kinds of front end knocks and clunks going over bumps and when stepping on the brakes when backing up. Looking to make a parts list to replace everything at once. I see the upper control arm has 2 bushings and a ball joint, the lower control arm has a bunch of bushings and a ball joint. What else should I replace?

I have an 2001 S 80, T6, with 74K miles. I love the car but have had an issue with it since I bought it in 2004. I hear random clunks, pops, and bang noises in all 4 corners. I can't recreate the noises, they just occur randomly. But they can be loud! I have had the dealer inspect it a few times always telling me that everything looks okay.

I have some low speed clunks and creaks.
I thought it was the strut mounts (I have h2sport camber plates) so i tighten those down and some of the noises went away but I still have some others.
When I am stopped and i turn the wheel back and forth I can hear a little clunk and feel it slightly as well.
Which suspension components need to be tightened?

It was the sway-bar bushings... Now with all the new parts up front and the bushings it rides better than new. Case closed.
I replaced the following
- Struts (shocks, springs, mounts)
- Control arms (bushings, ball joints)
- End links
And i still have clunks from the front end and now magically my left outer CV boot is ripped!

I have problems with my rain sensor on my VW golf MK6 MY11. Already a couple of days it's raining pretty much here where i live so i got a chance to test it out in more than one occasion. So the problem is that when it rains the wipers don't come on when they should or they are on and whipping when they shouldn't.. When it's on high intensity and there's just a couple of raindrops it's whipping constantly and it doesn't stop not even slowing down to intermittent i have to turn it off manually, when i put it to low intensity then it works fine for a while and then it stops, raindrops are piling on the windshield and then i have to move the intensity switch again... So basically it's doesn't react how the rain is falling, just sometimes.

I've notice this odd occurrence. After it rains, opening the door it drips water RIGHT on the seat. Also, driving in the rain if you crack the window the water drips right on your shoulder.
Just thought the design for drainage away from the windows is poor.

Not to mention, I got another dent on the front bumper... the paint didn't chip, but the actual surface just sunk in like when u poke a piece of cardboard.

My 87 S10 (2.8L) recently began knocking. It only knocks when the motor is warm and increases as RPMs increase. I had a friend who is a mechanic look at it and he said it was rod knock. My situation: I have to get my truck back home from college. It's about 100 miles and over a mountain pass.

2003 Jeep Liberty Sport, 156 K miles, Check engine light has been on for months now. First occurrence was when driving, and car started to knock as though I was shooting 50 cal machine guns. Stopped vehicle, shut off, and upon restart, engine ran smooth. Now, almost every time after engine has been running a while, and I am going on a down slope, the check engine light starts to blink, and engine starts to miss. Took to my mechanic, and so far, I have been told and have replaced, Fuel pump, Spark plugs, coils, and wires, cam sensor. Latest and most recent with promise that this has to be it, I replaced engine computer.

So far i haven't been able to find a lot of solid info on this rain sensor. Here's what i know:
My sensor indeed works, if i remove it and move my fingers the wipers will speed up/slow down accordingly. It looks like the window has been replaced and a very "shotty" job was done replacing the sensor/rearview mirror.
There was extra adhesive around the sensor, i removed that and cleaned it up, also cleaned up the gel over the sensor. Reinstalled everything, still cannot get it to work.
If i have just the sensor on the windshield, it semi-works, but when i put the mirror back on, it doesnt work at all.
I know the sensor is good, i get the fastest wiper settings. Relay #192 is good.
My best guess:The sensor is going bad, or the gel isn't making a good enough contact with the windshield allowing it to "detect" the rain hitting it. You can tell the gel isn't in the best of shape and I am pretty sure that's the culprit.
Where to locate a rain sensor? or the Gel, or if any gel can be used, I am going to try and find something i can "substitute" in place of the gel thats on it.

Yesterday there was a lot of rain. The car stalled during the rain at approx 2k rpm on 4th gear. I tried starting it and it did nothing as if battery was dead. Before this I was getting alternator workshop icon and lost of power steering (I believe because of PS belt). Anyways, Car doesn't want to crank, starter won't do anything but click.
Could the motor have gotten water in it by the CAI? There was little condensation on the MAF but not enough to get to the throttle body. Anyways, once they towed it home I removed coils and spark plugs and started it to remove any water but starter won't go.
I have checked all fuses, I've connected Vagcom and shows nothing since car won't start. Is there a sensor that goes bad with the rain? I've heard of crank shaft sensor, would it mean anything here? Has starter gone bad? Is the motor frozen up?

My drivers side blade knocks against the pillar. I read on one of the UK forums about some adjustments that can be made, but can't figure out what the adjustments are.
My blades look like they're seated ok, so I'm not sure what to adjust.

As stated I have a 2008 F150XLT 5.4 V8. Recently it has started making a knocking noise and very rough idle when warm. It only does it when the truck has been driven slowly or typically when going through a drive through. It sounds like a rod knock but putting it in neutral and revving the engine makes it go away for a while.

I have a 2007 150 5.4 31,000 miles that started knocking and pinging at low rpm, fine above 1000 rpm but i am detecting ackward exhaust tone, after reading several posts on this site about similar complaints i replaced the cam sensors but prob persists.

I have the windows/sunroof close via rain sensor enabled through vagcom. I go to the MFD but every time I select it on, it'll reset and turn off when I turn the car off and on. Why? Can't get it to stay on.
Also, to not start a new thread. What the Manual Door Lock option in the MFD does? It gives you the option of all doors or individual. I looked in the manual but still don't understand what it does.

Any way to connect the windows to roll up if the rain sensor detects rain drops? Just thinking that this would be a nice cool feature to have if there is a way to do it.

It seems to rain every afternoon here lately, but by the time I get out to my car it's still quite hot. So I roll the windows down a little, and start to pull out of my parking space. However, as soon as the car moves, rain water just rolls right off the roof and comes pouring inside. There is a little lip between the roof and the top of the door line but that doesn't seem to be stopping it...does it have anything to do with the paint being new and still slippery? I've waxed my old mkIII GTI numerous times and never had an issue like this though. It's quite annoying having the entire door card and my left arm soaked every time it rains and I 'forget' not to put the windows down right away

Every time I fire up my 97 4.3l blazer it knocks and taps super loud until it warms up a little. Every morning I hold my breath. And its only on first start. After it has been run there is no noise. Why is this happening? Is something failing? It has over 100,000 miles
