Our GTI developed its first buzz/rattle. It is a harmonic buzz coming from the sunglasses holder. If my wife's sunglasses are in there, no buzz. If you take the glasses out, it buzzes at around 2200 rpm-2700 rpm.
View 14 RepliesThe sunglasses holder on my GTI 2011 was rattling for years. I saw many other people complained about the issue and some even had fixed it themselves. The dealership obviously couldn't work... I was finally able to fix mine today....
In my case it rattled usually on low RPM as I'm accelerating and both with or without sunglasses inside. The radio had no effect. I found that pressing on the right side of the sunglasses holder would stop the rattling, but as soon as I let go it started back up.
I tried a few things and I even took out the entire unit using this guide, but it didn't work.
What did work was adding padding on the right rim of the pop-out drawer itself. The left rim of the drawer has a little bar that prevents any movement there. The right rim doesn't. Adding some padding on the right rim to prevent movement on that side solved the issue for me. I used some tape for the padding.
This rattle goes away when I open the sunglasses holder and pinch the roof together. It's not the sunglasses holder door itself. Any write up on how to open this up so I can check out what's in there?
View 5 RepliesI am on my 3rd GTI, a 2013 GTI Autobahn, came out of 2011 GTI Sunroof/conv model. I have various rattling noises in this car. The sunglasses holder rattles all the time especially when i am listening to music with a little bass, the roof rattles a bit but that seems to go away if i close the sunroof shade, also my front passenger door rattles.

My sunglasses holder on the roof next to the courtesy lights always pops open, especially on hot days.
I suspect the clip that is supposed to keep the holder closed is loose or very weak. I searched online and don't see a recall about this or anything.
I'm so used to my Prius which had a sunglasses holder compartment on the center roof. I didn't realized how great it was until now.
Where do you normally store your sunglasses? I'm looking for a place with easy access.
Whenever I start my R32, I have some high pitch buzz noise coming from the rear, stay and never go away while even driving.

I was told roof rack so i removed cleaned and resealed all bolts around wholes with silicone. Rain today an still have water coming in? See rite on edge of headliner gets wet. How hard is it to remove headliner? Maybe not all way out but could drop enough to see whats going on in rear compartment. Its a 2002 xlt...
View 12 RepliesI have 120K miles on my 07 Santa Fe Limited AWD. I have a significant buzz/hum coming from the rear. It varies in pitch with the speed of the vehicle, and the intensity seems to be less when when veering right. I'm guessing that's a bad bearing, which of course means a hub assembly. Prices seem to be all over the place, but I also see that some have a sensor and others do not. I'm assuming that's an ABS sensor.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2011 Subaru Impreza 2.5i hatchback with a automatic transmission. When I go between 55 and 65 I hear a buzz saw noise coming from the rear of the car. The noise only happens at those speeds,on hills, and flat ground, and in curves, and on straight always, but I never hear it at any other time. What it might be?
View 8 RepliesOn more than one occasion, when I have gone in my garage at around 5 a.m., I hear a hum/buzz coming from the back end of my Prius. It has to come from the battery pack because the sound seems to come from under the back end of the car and is not as audible when I open the hatch.
View 2 RepliesI recognize the odds of isolating this is low, but thought I'd try. I have been hearing a a very subtle (but noticeable) noise coming from within the dash area of my 2002 Passat (mostly near the glove box side, but also in the middle area). Noise occurs when the ignition is turned on - with or with out the engine running. It can be heard while driving, but is more noticeable when I turn the HVAC fan to off. The sound is random, and seems to be like a relay dithering, an intermittent buzzer or a fan noise (although no fan is on.) It sort of sounds like a cell phone vibrating randomly in the glove box.

View 12 RepliesOk, so I installed my euro cupholder today, and I love it. Simple, yet so pleasing! So just for those interested in possibly installing one, but worried about the work, I'm not MKVI inclined whatsoever, so I figured if it would take someone who knows their car well an hour and half, it'd take me 2 and a quarter. I went slowly and as I took the console apart, I meticulously cleaned all the crevices and it only took about 1.5 hours, and that was with some re-fittting and tweaking to make sure everything was perfect. So with my first dive into takng apart the car, it was fairly painless and I love the outcome....except:
For some reason I get an Airbag Error and a warning light. The passenger light works well and goes off with a passenger in thier seat, like its supposed to. I only unplugged, then replugged in 5 things: Passenger Airbag on/ off light, ESP on / off button, 12 V power, Light for shifter (auto), and I Pod (well just an aux line in).
I give up. I have bad ears so can't localize it. I open the driver's door in my garage, so the door was unlocked. And I hear a 3-4 second faint "buzz", like that of a cell phone set to vibrate. I've spent the last week trying to jump in and locate it, and haven't yet.
View 5 RepliesJust bought my R a few months ago and love it so far. I've recently encountered a slight buzz or vibration. I'll get down to the nitty gritty and not bore you with long drawn out information. Basically under heavy acceleration the driver side vibrates/ buzzes down by the floorboard. Now this only happen under heavy acceleration. I even did a test in 1st gear. Heavy accellerate under 2k RPM's, 3k RPM's, 4k RPM's and the vibration happened under these heavy acceleration periods. It's almost like there was also a loss of power during this vibration/ buzz, which leads me to believe it might be the clutch.
I took off the prop shaft and drove in FWD for a few weeks. The vibration was still prominent. Took of both front driveshafts and inspected those and they seem perfect but THE VIBRATION IS STILL HERE. Could this be the clutch?
This is on a 2010 GTI with 20K km.
I've noticed a buzzing noise coming from the front of the car whenever I coast downhill. Almost sounds like an off-tune radio. Noise gets louder as the car picks up speed, and becomes quieter as I brake. What can it be? I think I was in 3rd gear.
I'm getting this rattling sound/buzzing sound when I drive over bumpy roads. I'm not sure if this is the fuel line since the only time I get the rattle is when I drive over bumpy roads (brick roads, uneven roads, rumble strip, etc).
I think the rattle is from the passenger side.
I checked the VW site for recalls (not sure if TSBs will show up) for my vehicle. I think I'm going to take it in to get checked and see if the fuel line rubber washer was ever installed. Would the dealership be able to see if the TSB was ever performed while they had the car in the lot? Does the TSB only apply to certain range of VINs?
yesterday my r began making a new buzzing sound when accelerating. ive researched and i guess it does somewhat sound like a quick blow into a harmonica. I am pretty aware of the sounds my car makes and am sure that this is completely new. the noise only occurs under load around 2800-3000 when boost comes on and then things go back to normal.
i have been tuned UM stage 1 since july and have never experienced this noise before yesterday.
I have done the flapper mod. My exhaust has a nasty rasp on acceleration. I have a buddy with a MkIV R32 and his car sounds MUCH better than mine with no rasp.
