Golf/GTI VI :: Airbox Removal And Reinstall?
Jun 25, 2011
broke down, finally installed dieselgeek SSK. Putting stock airbox back on, I pulled up the tube that clips onto the bottom of the airbox. And the bottom end wasn't attached to anything. Did I pull it out of somewhere? The end has a blue foam "plug". Didn't know if it was a water drainage tube or breather tube or what.
I re-attached it and stuck the bottom down towards the front bumper where I think it pulled out of. Second thing is getting the box seated and 'snapped down' onto the two rubber grommets that hold it in place. I couldn't get them to positively snap back on. Doing something wrong? Can take the box off and re-do it tomorrow as needed. VAG-COM doesn't show any codes and no CEL.

I recently purchased my R32 and the previous owner installed a short throw shifter. The knob and aluminum ring look like they are installed correctly but the boot won't stay up next to the aluminum ring. I originally thought that it would just either snap into place or it would need to twist to lock it into place. I've looked at and I can't figure it out. How it is supposed to attach to the aluminum ring?

I bought this 2003 gti in July, noticed a little smoke coming out near the airbox but the motor had been cleaned recently so I assumed it was whatever they used cleaning it just burning off.
Today, installing an air filter, I see that there is a rubber hose dry rotted with smoke coming from it. I don't know what it goes to or how to replace it. The car drives fine. I do have CEL on for a coolant system fault, but all fluids are level it's not overheating and it doesn't seem to be losing any power.

This hose comes off the top of the air box next to the air intake and goes down towards the front of the engine. I need to know what this hoses called or what the part number is as mine is missing.

what material is used for the stock airbox? The 90 degree "snorkel" intake tube that is held on by two rivets on my airbox has a tab at one rivet that is cracked. This allows the snorkel to move around and come unsealed from the main airbox. It is "pre-filter" so there is no performance issue, but I would like it to stay in place and look right.
Depending on the material, I was going to shave some slivers from a thicker part of the box and mix it with a solvent to make a paste and apply it to the crack. This will only work if the material "melts" in strong solvents like acetone/MEK. Once it dries, it will be good as new. I have done this many times with ABS and PVC. There is a small gap to fill so simply gluing might not be as strong.

When I did the PCV valve on my wife's car it looked like nothing more than a metal housing with a ball bearing rattling around inside. That left me wondering, why not just clean and reinstall the original valve? Is there a reason why that wouldn't be nearly as good? I realize it's a $10 part but I have to ask the question before I go buy another for my own car.

I got some manual of the internet on how to take out the bottom off the back seat. I got it off and installed the seat covers. How do I reinstall the seat. Instructions say attach rear hooks then push down to attach front. I attached the rear hooks but can not just push down on the seat to install the front. Sitting on it does not let it latch on. How to make the front latch on? This is on 2010 Prius. I got the u tubes going inside the white connectors but they will not latch on. Is there a trick? Seat is faom and Styrofoam so I don't want to just push down as I might break something. It's GT covers that I am installing.

My keys got stolen from my ignition (battery had died because key was left in ACC and I assume the attempted car jack ended in a key theft for some reason.)
The Ranger is 96, tilt steering with plastic shrouding and column shift A/T... I followed the procedure recommended for exchanging the cylinder without the keys:
-drilled retaining pin
-drilled key slot
-manually removed parts with needle nose
-cleaned, greased and went to reinstall.....
I discovered the small metal washer between the green plastic washer and the gear was broken in half because I nicked it with the end of the drill bit. I inspected this and from what I can tell it looks like the green plastic washer is designed to hold onto the metal washer, the two of them together, from what I gather are designed to keep the gear from moving sideways or tilting. I figured that the washer should do it's job even in two pieces if I could get it in there straight and get the green washer to grab it.
Anyway I stuck it all back in there, slid the new lock cylinder in in run position, and nothing good happened. It's in the whole way, I can see the retaining pin centered in the whole from underneath, but when I try to seat the retaining pin it won't budge. I tried to align the parts at a million different angles and I just have no luck. I am planning on replacing the little metal washer, but I don't feel like it being broken alone is enough to keep all parts from functioning properly. I am stumped because I did the procedure step for step and there is nothing else apparently broken or damaged. The only other factor is that the steering wheel is locked and that sometimes made the other cylinder hard to turn, but it freed up usually with a little wiggling, this cylinder won't budge.

2005 RX330 ... The passanger-side rear marker light (bottom corner of bumper) is broken . I would like to replace it myself, but can't figure out how to remove it. By looking from underneath the car, it appears the assembly is bolted on, but the nut is in an impossible to reach place, even using socket extensions and a universal joint. Other than removing the rear bumper cover, how to remove the entire rear marker light assembly?

We got an F250 in June and had an ARE CX series cap installed on the truck yesterday. We didn't realize the installation of the cap would mean we lost the review camera when the tailgate was removed (DUH). We loved the review camera for hooking up our trailer and are wondering if there is any way to reinstall it on the cap. Or, purchase another camera and integrate it into the existing Ford screen......with the guidance lines?

Okay, so coming from a MKV Jetta, I had zero trouble getting these lil bastards out. Though for some reason, I can't grab em for the life of me. I can feel it twist (They are now both horizontal, is this locked or unlocked position?), but NEITHER will budge (not like we have room in the tiny TDI engine compartment). Thinking of changing em out with Amber LEDs that I've got from my old Jetta. I can't even remotely see with needlenose pliers, so I don't wanna risk breaking anything.... Is there an easy way to get em out that I'm missing?

I have just finished changing head gasket. I started up the engine works fine. But I hear a little clik sound form the converter. I put it in gear, but it can't move either forward or backward. It ran 2-3 liters of oil out of the converter when I took the engine out. I have filled new oil in the gearbox but not in the converter, dosnt it came form the gearbox into the converter? Is there air in the converter or what's wrong?
