Car do this? Seems odd to me. Iss there a way to disable via VCDS?

View 22 RepliesI have a 2002 Ex with the 7.3. Every time I put it into 4x4, the A/C automatically switches to the windshield defrost vents. After a couple minutes it switches back the the A/C vents. I'm assuming that isn't normal.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2002 SuperCrew - I've recharged the coolant - I can fill the air coming from the top defrost vents.
No matter what button I press on the air controls and can't get the air to switch to the vents. What the problem could be?
1994 f150. When i use the max a/c setting, sometimes after a few minutes I hear a little thud and then all the air starts coming out of the defrost vents. This doesn't happen when using the regular a/c setting.
View 2 RepliesI just picked up a 78 F150 Ranger XLT with a 351M in it this past friday. I am absolutely in LOVE with her. She is a great solid truck. One issue I am having though is that she blows hot air out the vents over the hump but nothing is coming out the top of the dash. I am guessing that i will have to take the dash off and clean out the box check the door etc. What did you do to rectify?
View 3 RepliesI recently found out that my check valve needs replacing for my a/c vacuum. The problem came from when I turn my AC on, the panel vents do not work. Instead, the Defrost vents push the AC air out. How to replace the vacuum check valve? I would like to avoid the high cost of dealership prices.
View 14 RepliesI have to once and for all try to figure out what the heck is up with the AC and the defrost/vent switching back and forth. I have searched and searched and posted a few months back as well. But now that it's summer and 100 degrees out I've had a chance to test some more.
1 - I replaced both hoses going to the hubs up front.
2 - I am not sure how to test vacuum, but I did cap the hoses that lead to the hubs and still had the fluctuating back and forth
Looking for detail how to test for vacuum leak with a gauge directions ? What number is supposed to hold on the gauge and for how long etc...?
3 - It used to be that when I got to a high speed or RPM it would shift to defrost, but now I've noticed that once on the freeway going to work for instance and doing a constant 55-65 ( sub 2k rpm ) for about 20-25 minutes the vents hold fine. When I start to stop and go with higher RPM's it starts to 'break down' again. Could it be that there is a vacuum canister or pump ? I don't know ?? The diesels have a vac pump - do the V10's ? What can I check if there is no vacuum leak - what's next ?
Is there any way to keep the radio screen up instead of it automatically switching to the nav screen after a few mins?
I've tried (i think) every option in the settings menu and i looked in the owners manual, but can't find anything.
I have a 2000 450, and the a/c keeps switching to defrost by itself. Any way to fix??
View 14 RepliesSo, my 06CC V10 likes to switch to the defrost at times while I'm towing, usually above 65mph, would that be a vacuum issue? Also, the truck seems to always have hot air blowing in to the cab somewhere from the fire wall? Lastly it seems to me that the steering wheel has a lot of play in it (left/right) before the wheels actually turn, should I tighten up the steering box, or is this normal.
View 4 RepliesI have a question about a possible leak. As I never really paid attention to it until of recent days, I noticed that my a/c is switching to defrost while driving for approximately 15-20 seconds then I let off the petal. Would it be time to search for a leak or could it be a solenoid issue. Also why we are on the subject would this have a negative effect on my mpg. I'm usually around 9.5 hwy and 8 around town, 6.5-7 towing 10k trailer. 06 350 cc lb v10 4.10's Factory 275/65/20's 69k miles...
View 1 RepliesThe A/C system switches from vent to defrost mode under engine load (going uphill or overtaking another car). It is caused by a vacuum leak and as far as I've seen most of us had the same problem a loose red hose, here are some pictures of where to start looking first.
This is the hose that gets disconnected from the back passenger side of the intake manifold.
This is where that hose should be connected to.
This is the other end of the same hose, it has a check valve on it and this side is connected to the vacuum reservoir and into the firewall to the dashboard to control the A/C system.
This image is just to show the location of the vacuum reservoir, you'll have to remove the cowl in order to see it properly, if you don't you can still reach the reservoir but it will be a bit hard since you don't have much space.
Here's the vacuum reservoir and the hoses from another perspective.
I have a 2001 E150 and when i turn the AC/heat/air on it will only come out the defrost vents. Whenever i flip the switch left or right nothing comes out, but when i put it on defrost it works... but only through the defrost vents....
View 5 RepliesMy 02 V-10 Ex seems to be blowing Air from the front vents up to the Defrost unless it go through a series of events-- Hit Auto then forward Air then the fan has to be a 4 only. It will blow forward vents then go back and forth from theirr to the defrost. Also the Temp seems to be much hotter then it should.
Took a interstate trip this weekend though and it seems to blow much colder and do a little bit better staying in the front vents however still goes back and forth. Im in FL and its HOT!!!! The only thing I know is that its a vacuum system.. and that again its HOT in the truck as a daily driver.
On my new to me 02 Mountaineer, the a/c and heater air on my climate control system is acting up. Everything is working as it should, except that when you direct air to the floor, the air comes out the defrost vents. I took the glove box out and when looking from the passenger floor towards the center, I can see 2 actuators that seem to be working. I was wondering if there were more than 2 of them, maybe one on the drivers side that I am not seeing, Didn't know that if maybe when one closed that another one would open elsewhere. As I said everything else is working as it should. Also the recirculation door is working as it should. Something else that I noticed is that the top port(#6) on the row of the vacuum hose plug does not have a line on it. Where I can get a diagram or picture of the hvac system.
View 5 RepliesI have a little question, why doesn't there come any warm air out of these 2 red vents? i have a climatronic but its not on auto, and it doesn't blow air anymore from 20 Celsius +, it does blow cold air though? Is this normal? kinda annoying cause there's only warm air coming out of the white vents, and thats not ideal if i want to be warm quick in those harsh winter days .
View 6 RepliesI have a 2010 f-150. Started having issues with the blend door actuator located behind the radio so replaced that a couple months ago and fixed issue. Now the a/c will only blow through the defrost and floor vents. I replaced the lower blend door actuator thinking that might be the culprit, but did not fix the problem. What the solution might be.
View 3 RepliesWhen the blower is on, it automatically switches from vents to defrost vents on its on. Does it about every 4 minutes.... like it's haunted. Curious if this is something i can tackle or do i need to take it in...
View 7 RepliesMy A/C is blowing cold but only thru the defrost vents. First it was blowing normally from the dash but during acceleration or under load, the a/c would randomly blow from any vent, from the floor, dash, defrost. Now that stopped and it only blows from the defrost vents above the dash-board.
1997 F-150 XLT, 4.2 Liter, V6, manual transmission.
My nav. when I put the air cond on auto and lower the temp so the air comes on, it blows out the vents on the front of the dash like it should and is cold. Then after about 30 seconds give or take, I hear a door deep inside the dash shut, or open, then the cold air only comes out the dash vents that are the defrosters for the windshield.
Then I can make it go back to the front vents again by pushing the button on the heater control to make the cold air come out the front vents again, but then it does the same thing again. Whats going to need to be replaced/repaired?
I have a vacuum leak. That's clear. When I put the truck in 4WD the air vents to the defrost after a slow (15-20 s) transition. The only way I can get the air to come back to the dash vents is to disengage 4x4. Of course, the auto-lockers aren't working. I can trouble shoot the vacuum lines and find the leak. No big deal.
I've isolated it downstream of the vacuum reservoir. It could be the PVH solenoid but at least the reservoir side holds pressure.
My concern is the noticeably poor A/C performance. It cycles between kinda cool and kinda warm. I remember the A/C being ice cold a few weeks ago.
Could the vacuum leak in 4x4 vacuum lines be related to the A/C problems? I'm thinking blend door vacuum issues. But I can't even find the blend door vacuum lines.
How do I know if my blend door is fully open/closed? Are there any other place to look that can cut down on my troubleshooting?
