I have just about 1500 miles on my recently purchased 2012 GTI. Yesterday, a 'click' started to come from the clutch pedal every time I depressed it. It occurs in about the first 2 inches of travel, and I can actually feel it on the bottom of my foot. It does not happen on the pedal's return.

To keep it short: car has been making this noise since day one. Only happens once things have warmed up (20-30 minute drive). Push the clutch in and the noise goes away. This video was taken with the phone placed on the driver side front wheel.
Trans makes a "marbles in a can" noise with clutch out in neutral and when pushed in everything gets quiet. It's driving me nuts and I just have to know if its normal. The dealer told me its "play in the bearings of the trans because they aren't engineered with the tightest tolerances"

Went down to the store and when I parked my car in the garage all I could smell is burnt clutch and its snowing and not like I could even beat on it. Car is stock besides a cat back .. Car has 11k on it ..
View 1 RepliesI have a 2012 Golf R 6 Speed manual, Just noticed that my clutch was Slipping in fifth gear when I give it gas. What clutch kit is recommended. It is the first time I have a VW and dont really know what will work better on it. Mods are Full catless downpipe and exhaust, Injen air intake and Revo stage 2 tune, ST Coilovers and NICHE Bronze wheels. Podi boost gauge and AEM wideband. I put down 285hp and 310TQ at Dyno jet 2 weeks ago I was kind of suprise expected a bit more but maybe the clutch was going bad already.

I got the tune first and, as expected apparently, the clutch started slipping at lower rpm when I start to get on it. I'm ready to do my clutch. That being said, would it be in my best interest to change the flywheel or can I run the stock DM flywheel?
View 2 RepliesOn releasing the clutch pedal, a creaking noise can be heard, which:
- sounds and feels like a rusty spring being unloaded
- occurs for the entire range of pedal travel, but worse near the bottom
- is louder outside the car than inside
- happens not only when driving, but also when stationary with the engine off
I don't think anything is wrong with the clutch itself, or any bearings, or major components... It just feels like something needs to be lubed. I've lubed the spring above the pedal inside the car, with no real effect.
I am a new owner of a 2011 Tomato Red GTI and was wondering if the sound my car makes is normal. Whenever I let off the clutch the car makes a rattling noise and i can feel it with my foot. Is that normal in our cars?
View 13 Repliesjust got a clutch job done. old clutchmasters was slipping so i went with a used southbend stage 2. the clutch was used for 3,000 miles or so and it belonged to the owner of the shop where i got it done. he guaranteed me that the noise was fine, but my father thinks differently. only makes noise when clutch is disengaged. if i press the clutch pedal. the noise goes away.
he shop resused my old stock flywheel but swapped out the clutchdisk and pressure plate. not sure if he switched out the throw out bearing.
is this normal in a higher stage clutch? its worth noting that all weird noises aside, the clutch shifts very smooth compared to my beat up CM kit (never buying anything from CM again) i cant test to see if it holds since ive only driven 50 miles on it
I bought my 2014 GTI TUESDAY... In less than 24 hours, I noticed a knock when the car was at idle with the clutch not in. Went away once the clutch was in. The car has 248 miles on it.
I am thinking it is the throw out bearing, but vw service seems to think it is nothing and they want to just run some tests and keep it for the weeknd. In all reality, I will have the rental longer than I actually had my brand new car.
So I don't know how long my car has been doing this I have only had it for about 2 weeks and was wondering if its normal.. I can hear like a chattering sound when my foot is off the clutch when I am idling but if I depress it and engage it there is no more noise( I'm sure when I'm driving its doing it too but with the other stuff going on I can't here it when I'm driving) . Is it normal or somewhat normal or should I be worried and go and have it checked?

First off, everything feels great. very solid mounts especially when compared to the spongy stock ones. definitely gets the job done.
Here's my question, is it normal to hear a lot of noise chatter coming from the clutch when not engaged? when my foot is on the clutch it goes away, and when i take my foot off a lot of noise starts coming from it. as far as i know, some clutch noise is relatively normal but I'm not sure if a lot is. also, when i start the car, the starter has a deeper, louder, more pronounced tone to it. not sure if that is normal or not either.
I have a strange noise issue on the clutch since day 1. When on regular driving, if I'm decelerating on compression and downshifting from 4 to 3, and 3 to 2nd (like slowing down to stop at a red light), when a release the clutch slowly, at the friction point, I am hearing a scratch noise, like 2 metal parts are touching each other.
When totally depressed, no problem, when totally pressed no problem too. Only at the friction point. It's more noticeable when downshifting from 4 to 2.
Over the past few months there have been maybe 5-10 times where if I'm starting out in first gear on a hill, I hear a whining noise when I let the clutch out.
I took it to the dealer the other day, and the dealer said they've seen this before and would replace the clutch. Next day they call me and say the slave cylinder is leaking, so they have to replace that too. It has 11k miles on it (I don't drive much).

I have had the clicking/popping clutch noise since I was breaking in the clutch but i thought it would eventually wear off. I have went through all the transmission threads and seen that a lot of people got it fixed having their clutch pedal assembly or master cylinder replaced.
Specs :
-SB stage 3 feramic clutch with ss flywheel
-Motul trans fluid
What exactly is making this sound? What do I do to fix this because its driving me insane. Noise is constant with clutch out. Goes away when pushed in. Rattle when at low rpm. This clip is me lightly revving the engine. This is something clutch/flywheel related.
Searched through old threads but didn't come across these in particular, a lot to look through so may have missed in Car has 270 miles on it.
1) When clutch is in all the way and the car is revved, I can feel it in my left foot. This can be felt when car is stationary or in motion - Is this common for MK6/R? I don't recall being able to feel this in my MKV GTI
2) When the car is in motion, I hear a knock noise right after the clutch is pressed in. I can only hear the noise if windows are open and stereo is off, and this only occurs while the car is in motion. - Is this a standard clutch noise for healthy clutch/pp/flywheel/throw-out bearing on this platform, or should there be no noises? It sounds like something I'd expect to hear with a messed up throw-out bearing.
Just replaced my OEM clutch and flywheel with SPEC ones and now I have a weird clicking noise during idle from it. Noise goes away when I press in clutch. My technician says that they are known for this noise. Is that true?

View 5 RepliesCurrently driving a GTI mk7 autobahn 6MT, this is my first manual transmission i have owned.. and have a question about a squeak like noise i hear when the clutch engages in gear 2 and 3.
This does not happen all the time, however i noticed that some / most of the time when i slowly let the clutch out in gear 2 and 3, right after the clutch engages and i let it out the rest of the way, it makes a squeak kinda sound.. almost like springs contract / retracting, i can also slightly feel it in the pedal.
Question is ...is this some what normal? i have never owned a MT car, and cant remember if such a thing happened while driving friends / family MT in the past..
I did replace one of this days the rear main seal in my r32, and reinstall the clutch like i normally do, and right after i start the car I notice this horrible noise, scare the hell of me cuz i thought i did not had oil in the car for a moment, but i did never drain it, so I ran to get my stetoscope and the noise is coming from the clutch flywheel area, so i did remove everything apart and reinstall it, resurface the flywheel got another clutch and pressure plate, and nothing the noise is still there, do this noise sound familiar to u?
Timing chains? engine is new, and when I mean new I mean only 175 miles, got it from the dealer.. Main bearings? Clutch? only 100 miles got it new about 3 months ago. I already check all the pulleys and none make any kind of noise, [URL] ....
My car is a VW golf GLS 1.8L Turbo 4dr Hatchback with a manual transmission, and has had modifications to the intake as well as the exhaust. Recently the clutch would grind every time I shifted gears and let go of the clutch. When I would let go, there would be a grinding noise that I could feel at my feet, but the car would still go albeit a slower rate. I could eventually reach a higher gear and then drive normally around because the grinding would lessen as I shifted to higher gears. In addition to the grinding, there was a faint smell of burning coming from the front left wheel. I was wondering if this is because I need to replace my clutch?
