Golf/GTI VI :: 2012 - No Noise Pipe
Dec 4, 2011
Just noticed my 2012 didn't come with a noise pipe. Did VW stop installing these for the 2012s?

View 24 RepliesI just got my MkV R and I'm loving it. Quick question - with the EVOMS intake, does that come with the noise pipe delete? Or do I have to order the A3 MAF pipe and attach that to the EVOMS intake? And which is better? EVOMS or VF? Is one intake louder than the other?
View 9 RepliesMy car started make a weird chatter noise. The noise was never there before I swapped out the plastic coolant pipe with the billet crack pipe.
Car info : Stock flash, flapper open, EVOMs intake, 46k miles
My RX350 has less than 18K miles and it has signs of bad valve seals. If I start the vehicle after it sits for a while, a large puff of blue smoke emits from the tail pipe. My 02 Dodge with 188K miles doesn't even do this.
View 2 RepliesI have the CBFA motor, and i am getting getting the p0420 error code. I have read two related threads here and here about p0420 codes and different downpipes. It seems the AWE and Nuespeed seem to be better for getting around CEL without additional flashes. I currently have purchased and installed one RAI straight O2 spacer (after the cat) and have tried both the medium and smallest insert but after clearing the CEL it has returned both times with the same code. Do i need two O2 spacers, one installed with the smallest insert and another with a different size? Trying to make sense of all the posts.
I am unitronic stage 1, before going stage two i want to have the CEL under control so i can downgrade the flash and not trip CEL for smog.
Putting a straight pipe from the cat back on 1.8T mk4? I was thinking going 2.5 inches from the cat back with a tip. But I wanna know how loud it is.
View 6 RepliesThe other day I decelerated rapidly. I didn't slam on the brakes, but I went from maybe 45mph to 0 in maybe 40 feet or so. When the car stopped, the CEL came on. No apparent issues at the time so I drove it the last few miles home. I checked under the hood with the engine running and heard a whistling noise which I tracked to the plastic pipe connecting the intake manifold to the brake booster. I didn't take a picture of it, but it is the one that has a silver heat wrap on part of it where it passes close to the throttle body. I grabbed a random pic online that kinda shows it.

I believe this pipe feeds air from the intake manifold to charge the brake booster? If this was the case, I thought possible by hitting the brakes harder than usual the back pressure at the check valve was enough to burst the plastic pipe, which may have been heated, stressed already? Then the vacuum leak caused the CEL?
What is the actual purpose of that pipe. The car is well maintained with recent service and just over 30K miles.
I started my car up this morning for work and I noticed it sounded a little different almost like a little more gurgle then usual. I walked behind the car and saw white smoke coming from the left exhaust. The smoke wasn't incredibly white like a cloud but was definitely noticeable i think it smelt like gas or oil I'm not sure (stuffy nose got me some allergies) . After about 10 ish seconds everything was back to normal. What could this be if anything? Hopefully nothing tho.
View 6 RepliesJust walked by the back end of my new Prius III and heard what sounded like a electric motor running from the general area of the exhaust pipe at the right rear end of the car. This was about 5 hours after I last drove it.
View 1 RepliesI recently put a fmic on my mk4 and a 3" dp... My question was : any kind or heat wrap on the down pipe or intercooler piping? I also didn't know if painting the ic pipes with ceramic paint would keep the temp down.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2004 1.8t Jetta with a rusted out flex pipe. The leak is causing a bad smell and also a lot of noise -- What's my best option to replace the downpipe (but also other parts if need be) without having to weld it?
View 6 RepliesMine appears to be leaking where the rubber pipe meets the metal coupler. What actually secures the rubber to the metal? I will get a new 1 soon but will be a week or so as I'm all spent after a few other unnecessary car related items.
View 5 RepliesCome out to the this am and notice a small puddle that was not there last night. Pull the car out and it's start burning something off. Roll the car in first thought is oil (maybe the turbo return line is leaking) no its coolant. On the lower portion of the down pipe and running across the bottom. I'm at a loss as where the leak could be coming from being back there.
View 6 RepliesI installed a usp test pipe a while back and I noticed a hissing sound coming out from my cluster right after the install. I have seemed to ignore the sound but now its getting to me.
View 10 RepliesI installed the non-resonated exhaust, but I noticed that some air/water condensation is coming out of the small pipe that join the cat and non resonated part of the exhaust.
I double checked the position of the small part and is very deep inside the other tubes, plus I checked the clamps too.
2012 GTi DSG... In low rpm when I have the gas pushed down and to get it up in speed to it sounds like in metal rattling around or like a plastic bag and you are smashing it around.
View 1 RepliesI have just about 1500 miles on my recently purchased 2012 GTI. Yesterday, a 'click' started to come from the clutch pedal every time I depressed it. It occurs in about the first 2 inches of travel, and I can actually feel it on the bottom of my foot. It does not happen on the pedal's return.
View 12 RepliesI finally took the plunge and got a new 2012 Candy White 4 door GTI two Saturdays ago. The car is perfect except for one really annoying thing-pretty bad wind noise on the interstate-which starts at about 60 mph-I don't hear it at normal street speeds. It seems to be coming from the upper left front corner of the car. The driver's door, side mirror and window appear to be fine.
I have a service appointment for this on Friday morning. Can VW fix this or will I just have to always blast my radio when on the interstate? I keep reading about how subdued the wind noise is in the current GTI, so I'm assuming what I'm hearing isn't normal.
When in idle the car is fine, however when revving the engine up to 2500-3000 rpm there is a puffing noise from the exhaust pipe area. What this could be?There is only on puff when reaching 2500 rpm... When I asked mechanic he said "it's because there is a small engine... Its a cheverolet cavalier 2001...
View 16 RepliesSo I have a 2002 GTI VR6 with the 24v BDF Engine. I have been having a problem with my belt squealing. It started after I replaced my water pump and crack pipe. While I was at it I replaced the belt tensioner and belt with a kit from ECS than had an aftermarket tensioner and a Conti drive belt(has 6 ribs). When starting the car up for the first time after doing the water pump I noticed the belt was squealing. It would only squeal when I gave it some good throttle.
After a few minutes it stopped squealing so I figured it was some coolant or something on the belt. Well its been a few weeks and it continues to squeal when I give it throttle, but only if the ac is on and it will only do it for a few minutes. After a few minutes of the car running or driving down the road it doesn't squeal anymore. I did make a long drive in the rain very shortly after replacing the belt and it was a really heavy rain storm. There was a lot of water on the road and my belt was squealing pretty much the whole drive if I had the ac on. I had to alternate ac on and off so I could keep the windows defogged.
After that experience I put on a set of engine splash guards from ECS. (note these guards were the ECS branded ones and were a terrible fit. Holes didn't line up with studs on bottom of frame and ended up taking the middle belly pan section out as it would hang down way too low even with the side covers connected to it.) That seemed to keep it from squealing while driving in the rain but it still squeals after first starting the cold engine with ac on.
So I did the seafoam trick and I came to the conculsion that my exhaust leak is coming from either the manifold or the flex pipe. There was no smoke coming from under the car only a mist of smoking coming up from the back of the engine, probably by the manifold or the flex pipe. I do not see any visible cracking per say. I have attached a picture of the end of the flex pipe and it almost looks like someone may have tried to seal it before? I don't know if that is normal or not as seen in the picture.
