Went to have 2007 Rabbit "flashed" tp get rid the rev hang problem. Shop said they do this all the time,but for some reason my ECU is locked and they cant get into it. What was going on. Strictly stock. What is going on?
View 1 RepliesMy girlfriend has a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit, and she said that occasionally when she slows down as she's getting off the freeway her car downshifts from third to first really quickly and she's concerned. She took it to the dealer but, of course, they couldn't tell what was wrong because it only happens on occasion. They said it might have something to do with the brakes pumping if she slows down too fast. The car has 60,000 miles on it.
View 3 RepliesOK, I admit I'm driving a new 2016 GTI, but I still have the trusty 1.8T. Fixing some stuff so my daughter can take it over and bring to college.
I replaced both clutch switches, turns out the 1 that prevents the car from starting unless the clutch was pushed in had failed (the spring broke). Since she is new manual tranny driver, wanted to fix this.
Now I've noticed the engine revs hang or increase a bit during shifting. Hmmmm, never observed this in 16 years with the car, and don't think it did it before replacing switches (but not 100% sure), so, I cleaned the throttle body and the sensor in the manifold. as suggested Re-installed and did throttle body alignment with my Ross Tech.
Car definitely idles better and rev hang is not as bad. Good, but not quite right. So, I've read it is supposed to do this, but others say no it isn't not sure. Is this normal or do I need to chase other things?
I installed a Unitronic intake last summer and I get this really weird rev hang when coming to a stop. When coasting to a stop the rpms fall at the regular pace until about 1100 rpms then they hold there for a second before returning to the normal idle, It also happens while revving in neutral occasionally.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2006 VW Rabbit with 106k miles. It is an automatic. Strange problem: if it is raining AND the traction control symbol comes on (I slip), then the EPC light comes on and the car is slow to shift and has poor acceleration. This does not happen if it is not raining and it does not happen just when it's raining. One mechanic recommended cleaning the throttle body, but since the car runs great all other times, this didn't make sense to me.
View 1 RepliesI just recently purchased a 1984 VW Rabbit convertible. I bought it knowing that the "idiot" light and buzzer for the oil sensor comes on when the engine revs at around 2100 RPMs, and won't shut off until I turn the car off. I replaced the oil sensor however it made no difference. Even when I disconnect the oil sensor unit, the buzzer still turns on!

View 4 RepliesI have a 2007 Tacoma 4x4 and until recently everything was fine. I even got almost 75000 miles out of the stock tires. About a month after the new tires the battery died so I replaced it. Since then the front seems to have a slight vibration and a slight noise. Kinda sounds like when you hear a 4x4 with big mudder tires on pavement. Both the vibration and sound are so slight that others cannot hear or feel it, I just notice having driven it for over 5 years, mostly highway.
When rotating my tires I noticed the front "axles" (don't know the proper name) turn with the tires. With the wheel off I tried holding the "axle" while turning the disk brake but it was as if the hub was locked in. A neighbor who seemed to think he'd heard of it before asked if I'd changed out the batter or had to disconnect it which of course I had. He said that maybe the electronic hubs were not unlocking. The tires still spin freely as the transfer case is not engaged but both of the axles coming from it spin with the tires.
My touareg (2007 VR6) will just randomly unlock it's self once I lock it, luckily happens while I am within audible range. Why? What's wrong?
View 2 RepliesThis just started today and when I turned off my car and removed the key from the ignition, the radio stayed on. Also, when I opened the door, the door chime came on as if the lights were still on and now I'm not able to lock the car or set the alarm using my key. I've read that some vw cars are wired so that the radio stays on after the car is turned off, but this has never been the case with my car. My main concern is battery drainage and being unable to lock and arm my alarm.
View 2 RepliesMy VW Rabbit (2007) has water in the spare tire well (under hatchback floor); under the floor mats in the back (passenger side has puddled up over the floor mat); appears to have water inside the driver side wall (seat belts are damp and have mildew); appears to have water leaking from under the passenger side onto the ground (backseat end).
This is not a case of windows or sun roof having been left open. Nor have I driven through a flooded area of significance. Last year the rear-passenger-side of this car was destroyed in a 50mph hit by an SUV and insurance co. chose to have it repaired rather than total....
Just got my 06 3.3 GLS. Sometimes it seems to hang in between 1st and 2nd gear. No amount of throttle will make the car go or rev up until you let off and it changes gear. Then its fine. 79k miles, no cel. When i say it wont rev it will be at full throttle and engine and vehicle speed doesn't change. I just had the heater core replaced but not sure how this would relate to that issue? Someone said he thought maybe the trans needs to relearn its shift points after having the battery disconnected but not sure I buy that.

View 14 RepliesSo I go to dinner last night and I come back to my car and my lights are still on. The car was locked as the side mirrors were retracted. I was eating dinner for at least 30-40 mins. The lights were on AUTO when I entered the vehicle.
View 1 RepliesI bought a used 2008 Rabbit about two year ago. Recently, I have been experiencing two problems:
Sometimes, when I am idling at a light, my car stalls and the EPC and battery lights turn on. If I turn off my car and back on it then runs fine.
Last night, I drove my car to two stops. At the second stop, the car wouldn't turn on. I got a jump and drove it straight to the mechanic's. This morning they said the battery is charged and the car is turning on fine. They cannot find anything so far that is draining the battery.
What might be causing these two problems?
Let me start by saying that I love my silly old Rabbit. Presently though I am irritated and confused by its new quirk. When starting it spins with out turning over. It sounds to me like it is not getting fuel. It also tends to backfire (or something else that causes a small amount of smoke). It does inevitably start and once it is running it seems fine. It got a full tuneup this spring, I have checked the fuel pump and replaced the fuel regulator. The problem persists. My present theory is that it has something to do with the ghost that lives in the wiring that recently made half of my instrument cluster dead, but that could and just be its own problem.
View 11 RepliesFor me it happens after I have driven the car for a while (engine is up to temp). I will turn the car off to go into a store or something. Then when I drive off again the revs will hang for several seconds. When this happens without my noticing it obviously makes for a violent shift into second gear. Once it does it 1 occasional rev hang car behaves normally. I know the revs drop slower when the engine is cold, but this is something totally different.

Tried taking inner door panel off. very little access and liberal spraying of WD40...............
