Golf/GTI VI :: 2002 1.8T - Car Randomly Turning Off And EPC Light Came On

I own a 2002 GTI 1.8T, it only has 69000 miles on it, fully loaded, everything but power seats. So far I have had major issues on it. At first the car was randomly turning off and the EPC light came on, engine light is on and airbag light is on.

So far the car has a new speed sensor that fixed the EPC light. Engine light came on I plugged the computer in and code came up to replace the temperature and ignition sensor, took care of that, but light is still on. Airbag light is on for some time and Autobarn wants 150$ to check it but not fix it, and im not going to be doing that.

I also have new front brakes, new CV joints, and new tires on it.

The issues are at hand: If i am at a stop light the car will just turn off randomly, I can turn it back up but I want to stop that part. Sometimes the radio will go off and turn on by itself at random times.

When I am making a hard left, I hear a jolt in the back like something pushed the car and the car will die. Just yesterday I was driving, the ABS and Traction light came on and the back tires screeched and the car just floored by itself.

Yesterday the window did not want to go down and fell out of the socket and currently i have tape on the window to hold it up, i can live with that.

Nissan - Maxima :: 2002 - Engine Randomly Sputter / Never Turning Off

I own a 2002 Maxima that has 216K miles on it; the engine has begun to randomly sputter (never turning off), and, when this is happening and the accelerator is intermittently depressed, the tachometer does not register any increase in RPMs, plus the car does not pull itself forward. Yet occasionally the engine does rev itself, and the car lunges forward. Also, the dashboard has highlighted the ABS light, battery light, and brake light in a flashing manner at times while this is occuring. Have checked the 3-1/2 month old battery, transmission, and alternator, and all are working fine...while the car is behaving, mind you. Also, have put a gas treatment in the tank to dispel the bad gasoline notion. My mechanic has said it's registering 17 volts, when it should register 14 volts, but he hasn't identified the source. What's going on?

Civic :: 2002 - Oil Pressure Light Randomly Flickering On

The oil pressure light in my '02 Civic (~96K) has been randomly flickering on, for a second or less, at different speeds, road conditions, length of time in the car, etc. I have taken it to a good reputable shop and to a Honda service shop, and neither of them can pinpoint the problem. The good shop thought it might be a faulty sensor, but Honda shop guy said he's never replaced a sensor in his career. I've been driving ~400 miles per week since August. I had the alternator replaced at the good shop a couple months before the oil light started flickering. The Honda shop just said that the alternator was charging too high, but they didn't say if that was related to the oil light coming on. The battery was replaced in August, the oil level and pressure are good, and I got the oil changed two weeks ago when the good shop checked out the oil light problem. What is causing the oil light to come on??

Chrysler - Ptcruiser :: 2002 - Airbag Light Goes On And Off Randomly?

I have a 2002 PT Cruiser who's airbag light seems to go on and off randomly. Some days it will stay off all day. Other times it will stay lit for days on end.

Some times it will go off for 10 to 20 seconds, then come back on with a chime for 10 seconds, then off again. Off...on...off...on....it will do it for 45 minutes or so or until the car is shut off and restarted.

Occasionally, the light coming on seems to correspond with hitting a pot hole or rough patch, but that could just be coincidence because it is not consistent.

Both the driver and passenger airbags were replaced about a year ago, during round 1 of fixing this problem (to get through state inspection.) It worked for about a year, and now its back. It makes me think I was taken for almost $2,000 replacing those in the first place. The steering wheel clockspring was also replaced around the same time.

I see from searching online that I am not the only one that has seen this with this model car.

Ford Excursion :: 2002 - Battery Light Comes On And Off Randomly

So my dummy light came on the other day, I went ahead and pulled the alternator and had it tested at advanced. It tested bad so I replaced it not my battery light comes on and off randomly. I have a edge tuner on my truck and my voltage reading on there is different after each start up. Sometimes it runs 12.1-12.2 other times it reads in the 14's I have checked with a multimeter also and got the same readings +-.1 or 2.

My dummy light keeps coming back on randomly, I had to replace the alternator connector because I broke it by accident. I also traced the wires as far as I could to check for brakes in the wire and found none with out proper time to pull all the wire loom off. What is the cause I know I could probably use cables soon as my terminals look a bit rough but are clean. Seems to be some really weak flimsy metal. Which fuse to check as my 2002 ex 7.3 only has the inside fuse block and I can't find much online about it.

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2002 XLT V6 - Battery Light Randomly Comes On

I have a 2002 Escape XLT V6 4X4. I searched the issue, but others' symptoms don't seem to be quite the same as what I'm seeing. Over the last few weeks, the battery light has randomly come on and off 3 separate times:

- 1st time, light came on at highway speed for about 30 sec and went out. Didn't come back on. Was during daytime, running DRL's, radio (no amp or subs or anything like that, and heater blower on low speed.

- 2nd time was two weeks later or so. Happened at night with just headlights on at around 55mph (RPMs about 2K or so). Again, stayed on for about 30 sec and went out.

- 3rd time was about a week/week and a half later, yesterday morning. Just running DRL's and radio. Light came on, flickered, came on, and then stayed on for a couple of minutes (all at highway speed). I noticed that if I disengaged the overdrive and got the RPMs up, the light would go out. I ran it out of overdrive for about 2 minutes like that, and the light stayed out. Speed limit dropped to 40mph, and the light came back on (lower RPMs at that speed, didn't run it in low gears). Light stayed on for 30 sec - 1 minute, and then went out on its own and has since stayed off.

I took it to Advance yesterday to have it tested, and the results were that it is charging at 13.9V under no load, and 13.87V under a load. The battery tested good, but the machine said it needed to be charged (it hasn't been acting low...car starts just fine).

I'm driving it to work today to see what it does next, and then getting it tested again on my way home. Has anyone here ever had similar symptoms as above? Does this sound like bad diodes in the alternator?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2002 - No Resistance When Turning The Key

When I turn the key in the ignition, almost nothing happens. There is no resistance when turning the key. Accessory power works (interior overhead lights, dash back lighting, door open sound) but no dash lights or headlights (just the front passenger parking light comes on). Tried to get a jump but nothing happened, not even the headlights came on. Haven't tried push start yet. I suspect an issue with the ignition switch, but I found another thread that suggested it could also be traced to certain fuses.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2002 - No Start / Not Even Turning Over

2 weeks ago my fans stayed on all day and killed my battery. Did a bunch of research and found that the FCM would be a possible place to start. FCM was literally in pieces under the battery. Replaced it with a new one. Still no fans. Popped open the fuse box on top of the battery. Fuse closest to the engine was blown and the plastic had started to melt. Bought a whole new one of these and replaced it. This time I read about the AC test with the car off. AC works (which is a pleasant surprise) but only the big drivers side fan works. The small passenger side fan never turns on. Turned the key off and the fan stops so that's good, I think. Ever since then my battery gets drained if it sits for so many hours.

Everything I read points to that fan going bad and becoming inoperable. But is that what is causing my battery to drain? Today I pulled the fuse nearest the engine when I got to work to see if my battery stays charged all day. Well as of right now it will not even turn over. Went out after work and it turned over 6 times but did not start. Started to jump it using my buddies car. Let it charge for 20 minutes and now it wont turn over. Have dash lights. Glow plug light is working as it should. Headlights everything works. Charged up the battery. Have 13 volts at the battery. Doesn't make a difference. Still will not turn over. Going to pull my battery tray after work and see if I can see the solenoid. Will see if I have any power there. Can I see the solenoid from the top of the car? Probably not...

Golf V R32 :: Fuel Cap Light Coming On Randomly

I live 3 hours from the nearest VW dealer and the fuel cap light has been coming on randomly although it is secure, and yesterday I filled up at my normal station, I filled it up to the first click on the pump and fuel started pouring out from underneath the car I probably lost over 1/2 gallon. I did have the fuel tank recall done maybe 7k miles ago and all has been well.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Clicking / Cranking Noise When Turning 2002?

My Jetta makes a clicking/clanking noise when I turn my steering wheel from standstill. I was told it was my CV joints. So I replaced them and its still making the noise. I was told then it was my struts/shocks. Is this true? The sound is coming from the front driver side wheel. Also, when looking at this tire. I noticed that while this one does have some wear it is even throughout the tire. However, this tire has more wear than the others. The others look brand new.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2002 - Transmission Slip While Turning / Low Fluid?

So the trans on my '02 GTI 1.8T has started doing this exciting new thing where it won't shift out of first gear for a few minutes when it's cold. I had attributed this mainly to that pesky valve body everyone talks about and hadn't got around to doing anything yet, when something new happened.

I noticed that if I turn right within a minute of the transmission "starting to work again", it'll slip out of gear again. There's one turn it always happens on, an uphill right-hander down the street from home.

Anyway, is it possible that this transmission has had some fluid loss? I know they're supposed to be "no maintenance" ( lol ) but I've had the engine rebuilt in the last year and maybe the shop borked something while they were down there?

What are the possibilities here?

Ford - Explorer :: Dash Lights Turning On And Off Randomly And Intermittently

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer. For about the last year some of the dash lights have been turning on and off randomly and intermittently. The three lights are the check engine, the airbag and less frequently, the check gauge light. It seems like there's some connection between the lights because often when one comes on so does another and often one will turn off, but immediately another will turn on. My mechanic (not a Ford dealer) tried to fix the check engine light by diagnosing and fixing the indicated codes, but a day later the light came back on. It stayed on for a week, then one morning it stayed off, but the airbag light came on. Is there some electronic (or other) component that links these three lights and could be causing this situation?

Ford - Escape :: 2007 - Interior Lights Turning On / Off Randomly

My wife has been driving this Escape for about a year after driving one she inherited from her father to 162K miles. This one has just under 70K now.

In the last month or so, the interior lights have begun to come on and go off at will. It can happen going down the road, or sitting in the garage for hours. When it's running, the door chime may or may not sound. It sometimes comes on when it hits a bump, sometimes without one. I looked at it earlier, and the light was on. (I have turned the center one off. I don't see a way to turn off the front ones) An hour later the light is off. No one has been in the car since this afternoon.

She says the car is haunted, and is now calling it Casper, even though it's solid black.

I have tried the standard fix of lubricating the door latches several times. There are six latches including the rear hatch and rear window. I have used CRC electrical cleaner as well as subsequent doses of good old WD 40. I don't know if there is an easy why to tell which switch might be causing the problem, so I have taken the shotgun approach.

The two remaining bulbs are tiny, so the battery has not run completely down, YET. The car is driven almost daily, sometimes several times in a day. I'm beginning to think that the situation may not be caused by one of the door switches. What else can it be? Why does it cycle like that? I doubt that it's haunted.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 - Immobilizer Light Turning Off / On Again?

My buddy with his 2000 jetta 2.0 that starts then stalls. The immobilizer light turns on and off again as it should during the starting process. Tried reprogramming the key with the 2 key programming process, also tried removing power from the battery and touching the leads together but these are fixes for the immobilizer but the light doesn't stay flashing. Is there anything I can try while waiting for my vag-com scanner to be delivered....

Passat (B6) :: Radio Turning Randomly Off - Error Code Triggered By Low Voltage

I had this problem for a while. My radio is always on when I stop the engine in my 2008 Passat. But lately, the next day when I started the car the radio was sometimes off.

Well, apparently the random turn off was an indicator that my battery was slowly getting bad and not holding a full charge. Yesterday my engine light came on and when I took the car to the service department they found out that the error code was triggered by low voltage.

At the end, they changed the battery. This is the first time I am changing the battery on this car since I got it in 2008. So 5 years on single battery is pretty good I assume.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: 2009 - Radio Turning Itself Off / Volume Will Randomly Decrease Until Zero

I have the stock radio in my sonata and the radio volume will randomly decrease until its at zero. When I attempt to turn the volume back up it will continue to go back down. It does this regardless of weather the automatic volume control is on or off. From time to time none of the buttons on the dash for the radio will work either. The volume controls on the steering wheel are also messed up. The volume up button mutes the radio, the volume down increases the volume and the mute button changes the mode. I tried pulling the fuse to reset everything and that didn't fix it.
