Gen 3 Prius (Audio/Electronics) :: Upgrading Rims And Stereo
Jun 22, 2011
So need rims and a stereo upgrade. I am getting my Prius on the 28th and want to do the stereo upgrade immediately. My stereo shop here in Tampa is saying that they don't want to do more than 1 amp because the draw could be too much and give me problems with the electrical system. SO I wonder how much power all the things in the car take up while running and then how big an amp (or two) can I put in there? How many Amps (not amplifiers) do I have left over safely for use in upgrading the stereo?
I have a Pioneer Avic stereo (not sure the model at the moment but it does DVDs, CDs, and NAV. Has 5v pre-outs which are nice. I also want to run a set of
Up Front:
DLS Ultimate Iridium 6.3i components up front
6.5" woofer, 3" midrange, 1.1" tweeter. 100w RMS per channel
I thought to put the woofer in the door, the 3" in the dash like rrolff's squaker install (I have the NONJBL audio too). and tweeter in the stock location.
Rear:
Possibly component set in the rear doors but haven't really decided yet.
I have a set of 5.25-inch components that can go back there from DLS as well Figured why not use them. but if there are better ones out there I am not opposed to it.
The amps I am considering are both JL One is the HD 900/5 which is 100x4 + 500x1 or the XD 700/5 which is 75x4 + 300x1

I've got a 2007 with Nav and was thinking of replacing the head unit with an Alpine INE-W940 or something similar/better. I spoke to Crutchfield, and they told me that this install would make my MFD unusable, and I'd have a blank screen. I am not certain if the tech meant that it would be useless for navigation or radio/cd control, but still function for other uses like battery monitoring and consumption.
Even assuming that it would still function for car information, etc., I was wondering, using perhaps Lockpick 3 to mirror the display of an aftermarket head unit/nav system to the MFD. I'm thinking this would be a really useful hack.

I just bought an 2008 Prius and I cannot for the life of me get the AUX function to work on my stereo. I have my iPhone plugged into the jack inside the center counsel, hit the DISC/AUX key and nothing. The cable between the iphone and jack is good, because I tried it on other devices and it works great. When I have a disc inserted into the stereo the DISC/AUX button works when switching from AM/FM radio to Disc and the cd plays. But when I have the cd removed from the stereo and hitting the DISC/AUX switch it does nothing. What am I doing wrong??? Or is the stereo broken????

I have a Prius package IV with the JBL stereo and have just purchase a NAV unit from another 2010 prius and was looking for some info on what I may run into with the install.
Are the wiring harnesses the same?

I have a 201o Prius with the stock stereo (no nav system). When it's hot outside (100deg+ F) and I get into the car, often the stereo display will flash and the unit is inoperable. Then, all the CDs are ejected. After I turn on the AC and the interior cools down, I can press the power button on the stereo and it comes back to life.

I have a 2006 Prius with Nav/JBL audio. For nearly 8 months, my stereo has been cutting in/out intermittently. When it cuts out, it has the following effects: lights on the stereo itself dim almost entirely, and: AM - completely silent; FM - I hear fuzz; CD - music plays, but volume is significantly cut and sound is heavily distorted (particularly bass frequencies); AUX - acts the same as CD.
I've confirmed that the fuses are fine. Assuming it will fix my problem, I would like to replace the stereo with a new double-din deck, but I am not sure how to tell whether I am dealing with a stereo deck issue or a amplifier issue. Given the dimming of the lights, my guess is that it is the stereo itself and not the amp - I would prefer not to have to mess with replacing the amp.
Whether this sounds like a stereo deck problem vs an amplifier issue?

Is it possible? My friend just bought a 2013 model but i'm not sure what trim level it is. It has no USB or Aux input. Is the input adapter something that can be removed from a wrecked gen 3 prius and just plugged into hers and be recognized?

I recently picked up a 2007 Prius and absolutely love the car. This past weekend, I installed an aftermarket head unit where the pocket below the radio was (kept stock unit plugged in to avoid climate control issues, plus like the stealth aspect), along with an amp and sub combo.

Is that normal? it says check connection of air conditions. Also the energy page went kind of blank on the battery part, and mpg and miles don't get updated any more, is that normal? how should I fix it?
I noticed there are three wire connector(besides antenna) connects to original audio system, I unplugged all of them, I plugged two of them to the new audio system, should I plugging in the other one back to it, does that work?

Recently I changed my 2007 Prius sterio (basic audio cd) to Prius factory sterio (51824) that has mp3.
Even though it is playing mp3 cds fine but I am not able to see the track info on the lcd while playing mp3 cd in the unit.
I am also not able to skip a folder (no option for it) only can skip tracks 1 by 1.
I also added 4 wires in the 20 pin connector that ables aux input which works perfect.

Strange occurrence the other day that I have not been able to remedy. The volume/power button that can pop in & out on the dashboard hadn't been used of late but when I went to depress it, the button popped out. It is spring loaded and the knob itself has an end that is cut into quarters - persumably to fit into the female end within the JBL stereo unit itself. But can't figure out how to get it to stay in place as it continues to pop back out. Volume & power functions still work but button/knob won't stay in.

The thread title says it all. I followed the instructions and watched the video. Did I unplug something by accident?

I have a 06 JDM prius with hard drive-based audio and navigation system. Today the car was parked in a ready mode with the stereo playing and the audio cut off abruptly. I investigated and found that all of the audio and navigation controls on both the steering wheel and center console were unresponsive. It is impossible to switch between modes I.e. CD, HDD,radio and the CD drive no longer rejects. Bluetooth pairing works but no sound coming from the driver side speaker when in a phone call. When the car is started the MFD shows that it's playing audio from the hard drive as shown below but there's no sound and its impossible to change tracks.

How can I play music from my iphone 5 through the factory JBL stereo in my 2006 Prius?

2005 Prius with Premium JBL sound system with CD Changer, tape Deck, etc. package 6 with Navigation.
Since it's a 2005 no USB input for my iPhone 4s to play music. I often stream pandora or music that's stored on my phone.
So far I have been connecting my iPhone with cassette adapter to headphone jack. The audio pretty much sucks through this method and FM transmitters are even worse!
What is the best way to connect iPhone 4s to my Prius stereo? What exactly is DICE and how good is the Audio Quality?
I do not use CD change at all! Is changer connected to an Aux. input that I can switch out for a USB input?
Can I just swap out my unit for a later model with USB input? Looking for the best audio quality option.

I have a 2009 f350 xlt with sync and steering wheel controls that the stereo quit working on and I want to replace and I am having trouble finding the correct one that will work with sync. One of the local auto wreckers has a 2010 f350 lariat with the touch screen that they are willing to let go for a reasonable price. Will that head unit work in my truck without major wiring?

Can Display Audio's phone interface accept pauses or waits (P or W) in the phone number? My phone uses them for voicemail passwords, eg dial the number, pause a few seconds, and then dial the password. So far it does not work at all through the bluetooth interface when initiated through voice command ("call xxx xxx xxxx pp yyyy#") or through the car's screen. I tried to directly store a similar number into the Display Audio "stored" numbers but could not find an option for the P pause.

I Learned on a Toyota Avalon web page that you can force your audio system to reboot itself by pressing the power button for three seconds. On the Avalon, it only works on the "Limited" levels. I tried it tonight on my Prius Four and it worked. Great to use when your audio gets "confused" and you just want to clear it and start over.

I've been using MP3 CDs in autos for some years. Now I have a 2014 Prius 4 with whatever audio system is standard in that model. Generally all is good. But there is one odd thing: Whenever I stop the car, or it seems even pause the playback, it seems to restart so as to replay a few minutes I listened to on the last session.

Just got my 06 Prius. The screen shows that Audio Off. The radio doesn't want to turn on. What could be the issue. 06 Prius with nav, Bluetooth, JBL etc. Everything else seem to work except the radio. Fuse perhaps?

I presently use a 16GB USB drive that has about 240 MB of 2 to 10 MB mp3 files and it works well. The reason I ask is that SirisXM is going to drop my favorite channel (69) and I was thinking of making some large files of audio capture before it goes away. Large because its easier to make and play a few than many. There might be a file size limitation (not USB storage limitation) due to the amount of memory in the audio system.
