Gen 3 Prius (Audio/Electronics) :: How To Hide A Power Cable
Apr 29, 2013
Have a 2010 Prius V, and use a smart phone with a vent mount above the radio. So far so good, however the dangling power cord I'd like to minimize. Presently, I have a tiny cigarette lighter to usb converter located under the shifter (in that odd open bay), and then the cord travels up the entire dash.
Would like to run the cord behind the dash and, if possible, have the cord pop through the air vent to power the phone. That said, would not want to interrupt air systems by puncturing through the duct and am not familiar w/the schematics to understand what options exist under the dash. Prefer not to drill through the dash, but would consider. Second, but lower priority, would be to hardwire the cable inside the dash.
Best spot I can locate as an exit for the power cable might be the space just outside the air vent, but still inside the vent cavity. have links to the dashboard schematics to get an idea of available space?

Just got a 2012 c3, and I'm trying to get my iPod Nano (4th gen) to show up on the display as an iPod, controllable from the steering wheel and display. The manual says this iPod model is compatible. The iPod software is up to date.
If I plug my iPod into the AUX with a standard audio cable, it plays over the speakers fine but the display shows only "aux" and has no controls for it. If I plug it into the USB with an Apple cable, it doesn't plays over the speakers at all, and the USB doesn't show up as active on the display -- it's grayed out. I tested the cable elsewhere and confirmed it's fine.

I have a 2005 Prius with an aux cable for iPod connected inside the car and located in the glove box. Besides plugging in my iPod and pressing play, volume (both car and iPod) and Audio "on,". How exactly do I use it.

I use a vent mount for my phone and my old car had the aux-in by the radio so I used a little retractable cable to my phone. Now in the prius the aux-in jack is way in the back of the arm rest what is the best way to route the cable there?
No nav, so no bluetooth streaming for me.

I have a 2009 Prius with the Aux port in the center console. It has stopped working unless you jiggle the cable. Need to get a replacement?

I Learned on a Toyota Avalon web page that you can force your audio system to reboot itself by pressing the power button for three seconds. On the Avalon, it only works on the "Limited" levels. I tried it tonight on my Prius Four and it worked. Great to use when your audio gets "confused" and you just want to clear it and start over.

When my 2012 Prius II has audio in aux mode, for using the 3.5 mm aux audio jack, a super-loud and annoying buzz is created when I plug my laptop's power supply into the car via a 12V DC to 115V AC power converter plugged into either of the car's 12V aux power jacks.
I'm trying to listen to video lectures on DVD played on my laptop, feeding audio from my laptop to the car (2012 Prius II) using the 3.5 mm aux audio jack. I get clear sound when the laptop is running off battery. However, when I plug a 12V DC to 115V AC power converter into one of the 12V aux power jacks, there is a quiet and slightly annoying buzz.
When I then plug my laptop's power supply into the power converter (whether or not my laptop is connected to its power supply), the buzz's loudness and annoyance get magnified 10-fold, even if nothing is plugged into the aux audio jack. If the Prius audio mode gets switched to USB mode (with no input from the laptop), there is no buzz, so this seems particular to aux mode audio. (I cannot drive the car's audio from a video player on my laptop via USB mode, can I?)
I thought I remember reading a warning about this buzz and someone had a workaround, possibly involving some extra interface, but my searches on this forum aren't turning up anything. I plugged a surge protector into the power converter and got a mid-volume buzz, which went back to a full-volume buzz with the laptop power supply plugged in.

If I plug in my IPhone 4 using the USB cord plugged into the receptacle under the armrest (how you plug in to run the wonderful entune ) the pictured notification intermittently and quite often pops up. This stops my phone from charging and is annoying as it makes the dinging sound every time and I have to unplug / re plug it in and hope that it starts back up charging. Does the little lightning bolt that signifies that the phone is charging must be on for entune to work, or does it only have to be plugged in??
Now I do recall somewhere hearing that the USB is not the optimal way to charge a phone, and I'll admit when it does work it charges real slow. Thing is that's the only way to run Entune and there is only one plug on the cell phone? I could charge the phone via a cigarette lighter charger but then I can't use entune!

I have a 2010, Prius III. Whenever I plug my blackberry storm into the usb slot, my phone says "there is not sufficient power to charge the phone". I've tried charging with the Storm 1 and Storm 2 but neither seem to work. I have plugged in my ipod and it seems to charge just fine. Is it just the phone that won't allow it to charge or is it the fact that it's a micro usb that the car may not be able to handle? Or maybe the usb port is faulty.

Strange occurrence the other day that I have not been able to remedy. The volume/power button that can pop in & out on the dashboard hadn't been used of late but when I went to depress it, the button popped out. It is spring loaded and the knob itself has an end that is cut into quarters - persumably to fit into the female end within the JBL stereo unit itself. But can't figure out how to get it to stay in place as it continues to pop back out. Volume & power functions still work but button/knob won't stay in.

I recently bought aftermarket CCD camera kit from eBay for my 2014 Prius-II and got it installed by best-buy geek squad. But camera is not working due to power problem. According to best buy technician, Prius factory harness is not supplying power when car is put in reverse gear. I am not sure how to address this problem.

Can Display Audio's phone interface accept pauses or waits (P or W) in the phone number? My phone uses them for voicemail passwords, eg dial the number, pause a few seconds, and then dial the password. So far it does not work at all through the bluetooth interface when initiated through voice command ("call xxx xxx xxxx pp yyyy#") or through the car's screen. I tried to directly store a similar number into the Display Audio "stored" numbers but could not find an option for the P pause.

I've been using MP3 CDs in autos for some years. Now I have a 2014 Prius 4 with whatever audio system is standard in that model. Generally all is good. But there is one odd thing: Whenever I stop the car, or it seems even pause the playback, it seems to restart so as to replay a few minutes I listened to on the last session.

I presently use a 16GB USB drive that has about 240 MB of 2 to 10 MB mp3 files and it works well. The reason I ask is that SirisXM is going to drop my favorite channel (69) and I was thinking of making some large files of audio capture before it goes away. Large because its easier to make and play a few than many. There might be a file size limitation (not USB storage limitation) due to the amount of memory in the audio system.
