Gen 3 Prius (Audio/Electronics) :: Front Speakers Cutting Out On Occasion
Sep 3, 2011
I had the Rosen HU installed today. All functions are working. However, the front speakers will cut out from time to time, and then come back on by themselves. The power loss to the front speakers is typically 2-3 seconds, but has lasted as long as five seconds.
The installer followed all directions. The antenna is on top of the unit itself, behind the dash.

I own a 2009 GEN III Prius with full nav and the standard 6 speakers, no JBL. It has 2 speakers in the dashboard, 2 speakers in the front doors en 2 speakers in the back doors.
I upgraded my front speakers with 3 way JBL GTO 938 speakers, expecting to improve the low and mid frequencies. Unfortunately, the results are disappointing: Apparently, the speakers in the front doors only get LOW frequencies. So, the real lows are fine now, but I expected more from this.
Replacing the front door speakers with decent ones, but I don't get it. Sure, the real base will be better, but the whole idea is to improve overall audio, not

So long story short. I have 2010 Prius package V, JBL. Recently 2 of front driver side speakers stop working(1 on dash,1 on door) only when I listen to radio and stream music from my iphone. I played with the L/R F/R balance and made sure about it. However when I got phone call and using navigation guidance voice it works no problem.

Android person myself but noticed on wife's iPhone 6s occasionally the audio via Bluetooth to the jbl system gets choppy . it basically keeps cutting on and off. She has to duly then disconnect Bluetooth on iPhone and then reconnect to remedy.

Does the Prius one come with two speakers instead of four? The layout says four but I can only hear sound from the front.

I have a 2006 Prius with Nav/JBL audio. For nearly 8 months, my stereo has been cutting in/out intermittently. When it cuts out, it has the following effects: lights on the stereo itself dim almost entirely, and: AM - completely silent; FM - I hear fuzz; CD - music plays, but volume is significantly cut and sound is heavily distorted (particularly bass frequencies); AUX - acts the same as CD.
I've confirmed that the fuses are fine. Assuming it will fix my problem, I would like to replace the stereo with a new double-din deck, but I am not sure how to tell whether I am dealing with a stereo deck issue or a amplifier issue. Given the dimming of the lights, my guess is that it is the stereo itself and not the amp - I would prefer not to have to mess with replacing the amp.
Whether this sounds like a stereo deck problem vs an amplifier issue?

The speakers on my prius sound completely horrible with lots of distortion when its on full blast and when the car is in ready mode. But when I have it on full blast without the car in ready mode it sounds crystal clear. What it could be?

As you all know there are no speakers in the rear door of a Prius C one. There are also no wires for a speaker. No big deal, I have pulled wire into a door many times. Can't do it! The rubber boot that goes through the door has a wire harness connector that covers the entire boot in the pillar, it actually looks like one piece. How to remove that connector to get access into the door with a speaker wire? I managed to to unhook the harness but in doing so the plastic clip that looks it broke off. Not good.

on my sub amp the wire out got hooked up my wires to my car speakers while replacing the battery and it went boom and there was a smell of burnt electrical. Now I don't have any sound coming out all in my car. I'm trying to figure out if it is a fuse problem or if I blew out all of my speakers, but before this happened I disconnected the center speaker by the screen because I wanted a more stereo sound in my car. I reattached the center speaker recently and still no sound. I looked at the fuses underneath the steering wheel and I couldn't find any blown fuses.

I have a an issue with my 2010 Prius. I have factory JBL (no navi) system and for some reason, 2 of my speakers went out. What's funny is that my front driver side speaker is out but the passenger side works. The same thing in the rear. The one behind the driver seat is working but the one behind the passenger doesn't.

I bought this today. It has to be plugged into the 12v port in order to work; it has no battery in it. BUT when I plug it into the 12v ports (i tried both), this annoying squealing noise comes from the speakers. How can I get rid of this noise completely?

I upgraded my front speaker to Focal PS165 running them off a JL audio HD 900/5 with a pioneer 5500bhs. The static gets louder when i turn up the volume. I don't think its a bad ground as i have had them before in my early days of installing. My first suspect was maybe the rca were touching so I wrapped them with electrical tape still get the noise. My next suspect is the component cables as they are cheap.

Just purchased a Prius III a week ago, like it so far. But one thing I have not figured out is how to adjust the rear speakers volume. My Prius has a JBL system, the two front speaks are quite strong, but the rear ones are not. On my other car, Camry, the volume can be easily adjusted to make either the front or rear speakers loud / light / balanced. How to do this in Prius? I believe it must be capable of doing such a basic thing, right?

I recently bought a 2013 Prius C 3. The display audio system makes a lot of white noise when it's on - sounds like a cassette tape hiss. That's okay I guess - chalk it up to oem audio. Right?

If I crank up the back speakers, passengers can hear them a little better. Is it the speakers or just my car? What is the simplest upgrade to fix the sound?

Title says it all. I've been running my iPhone for music via bluetooth in my new 2013 three. Anyway, lately I've been noticing that after the systems loads from start up that just before any sound is heard. I am getting a decent pop from the speakers.

I recently bought a 2014 Prius v, and I love most things about it, but so far I absolutely despise the way the audio system interacts with my iPhone 4S.
-If I plug the phone into the USB to charge it, the phone speakers will get silenced, and all audio will get sent to the car speakers. This happens even if the car speakers are off, and in that case the phone just goes totally silent. This would not be such a big deal except...
-The car often decides that I am on a call, when I am not on a call, and I am depending on the phone for Google Maps turn by turn voice directions. The screen on the car shows me as being in a call and silences the phone's audio. Occasionally it will play a brief bit of audio that sounds like it was recorded from within the car. If I push the button to hang up on the call nothing happens, and I just have to find my way to my destination without any directions. Or if I have enough battery I can disconnect the USB cable and get there using voice directions played on the phone speaker.
-The same issue sometimes interrupts audio playback when streaming audio from the phone.
-If I answer a call while I have audio playing, the audio keeps playing, and there's no apparent way to turn it off using the car controls. The car's next song and previous song buttons quit working too, so I'm at the mercy of whatever was on the playlist.
-I have to turn the volume up incredibly high to hear people who call me. When I end the call, the car suddenly starts playing a song from my iTunes music at deafening volume, even if I was not playing music before the call started.

I am a new 2011 PRIUS (III) Owner. -
I would like to know why I am not hearing the two bottom speakers in the back-passenger sides.-Is that supposed to be only the subwoofer?

All speakers on the driver's side of the truck are now cutting out. They will play good for a while, but then they will just cut out completely without warning. If I open and shut the driver door, they start working again for a while but will cut out again. Last week, I noticed that the drivers side rear speaker sounded like it was busted (crackling audio coming from it), but I haven't had a chance to bring it in yet to the dealer. Is it possible that the bad speaker could be causing the problem? Could it be shorting and causing the system to cut out on that one side?
Also, if the speakers are connected in series from front to back? Just trying to figure how the shutting of the door has anything to do, with it. I was thinking a bad connection at the door speaker and, if the speakers are wired in series, that would cause all sound on the drivers side to cutout and maybe opening and shutting the door jostles the connection just enough to make it good for a little while longer. Also, I am entertaining the thought that maybe the rear speaker IS the problem and the air being compressed in the cabin from closing the door makes the cone move just enough to break the short in the speaker and let the sound be once more. Also, wondering if this may be a head unit issue. Lots of ifs....
How hard is it to get the door panel off to check those connections? Also, anyone remove the stock headunit from the dash? I looked at it real quick and am not sure how to even begin. Now, I have gotten into the dash of every other vehicle I have had, but this one has me intimidated because I don't know how all the Sync stuff is wired in or what. Need to remove the headunit and getting the door panel off. Also, hy the speakers are cutting out... BTW, stock headunit is navigation with Sync....

First time ford owner so am not familiar with any quirks in the vehicle. Anyhow, about a year ago I replaced the head unit for the previous owner without any problems. All my connections are good and I rechecked them this morning. The problem is all the rear speakers cut in and out for no particular reason.
I have tested this even with the engine off just on acc. I have manipulated the wiring harness in the dash and I can't make it cut out or in so I am inclined to think something is that triggers a relay near the center armrest is the source of the issue. That relay is switching every time but I have yet looked into that. Is this a common issue?
The vehicle just had the BCM (I think that's what it's called on a ford) replaced because of a similar random relay issue in the right kick fuse panel causing the headlights to randomly flicker.

So I have the JBL 8 speaker system on my 2010 Prius with the Navi. The sound really seems to be all coming from the front. I have the fade adjusted in the center correctly, as well as left/right centered. I guess I was expecting a more dynamic sound that filled the car. I have to say I am not overly impressed with the sound quality.
