Gen 3 Prius (Audio/Electronics) :: Bluetooth MP3 Streaming Slow Down With IPhone 4
Oct 25, 2010
I'm trying to figure out if I'm dealing with an isolated situation...my iPhone 4's BT music streaming tends to have a slow-down effect whenever I start using the phone. It doesn't have to be a million apps running in the background for it to slow down (as if someone just turned off the turntable while the LP was playing), it could be caused by a simple accessing of the phone main screen... My prior car (Acura TL-Type S '07) worked flawlessly with my iPhone 3GS, so not sure if it's the iPhone 4 or my Prius V...

I switched from an Android phone to a iPhone 4 and after the switch I noticed that sometimes the bluetooth A2DP audio goes out in the middle of playing. The bluetooth does not drop connection or lose pairing, but there just no sound.
I can tap the "play" icon on the Nav touch screen and the sound comes back for a minute or so and goes out again repeatedly. If I don't do anything and just wait, after a minute or two the sound spontaneously returns and usually keeps going.
At first I though it was a problem with the podcast app I was using, but then I noticed the exact same behavior with playing music with the built-in native iPod app.

I've got a 2011 III with the solar sunroof/JBL package and there are a couple of things I wonder about:
The nav display shows the remaining time and distance to my destination. I've used Garmin units in the past that tell me what my estimated arrival time is. Can I change to show this instead?
I'm running iOS 5 on an iPhone. I can stream music nicely thru it, though I have to set up the proper app on the phone before doing so. It even lets me skip a selection playing on Pandora using the steering wheel up arrow button. My question is if I'm playing from the Music app, can I change playlists or albums using the steering wheel controls?

I just started using Spotify, and would like to stream music from its app on my mobile phone (iPhone 6) in my 2011 Prius.
I plugged the phone into the USB jack in the center well, and found this seems to work fine. However, it would be a little easier if I could do the streaming via bluetooth with no wire connection.
When I start the car, in a few seconds I see a message that the car is connected to the iPhone as a hands-free phone. If I press the "Audio" button at the lower left of the dash screen, the "BT" tab is grayed out and I can't select it.

It had worked fine until yesterday. Now there is very faint sound (cannot hear it at all without turning the volume way up and even then, it is very faint). Bluetooth phone works fine as does radio.
I have deleted and reinstalled the Bluetooth profiles from both the phone and car with no results. Interestingly it works fine with my ipad.

I have a problem with using bluetooth to stream music from my HTC One to the car stereo system. The music itself streams fine with no problem, but the titles of the songs are sometimes off or laggy or don't update as the songs cycle through the shuffle.

2013 Prius. Audio worked fine yesterday but on my way to work this morning the car would not play audio from my iPhone 6s. The Bluetooth is connected fine and calling still works but when I play music the screen shows that the music is playing but I get no sound from my speakers. I've tried resetting my phone and turned the car off and on to no avail.

I get my iPhone 5 paired with my car for calls and music but not for messages. Is there a trick to doing that?

Just got a Verizon iPhone4 (finally) and am having bluetooth pairing issues with my '06 Prius (non-Nav). The behavior is not quite what I've seen described on other threads, so I don't know what try here. Note that my old junkie dumbphone worked reliably with the Prius over Bluetooth.

I have a Prius two 2012, have been using an old iPod for music over USB, and a blackberry over bluetooth handsfree profile. blackberry phones allow you to manage which BT profiles are connected, I disabled the music over BT profile. but now I just got an iPhone 5s to replace both phone and ipod, it automatically pairs with all profiles supported by the car, no disable or selection per profile. I want to play music over USB, not BT, the quality is better.
But the iPhone doesn't support both, if BT music is enabled, then that is where it goes. i have not found a way to disable the BT music. I confirmed with Apple tech support, they say the car side decides what services to pair with the phone, the iPhone just slavishly does what it is told with no user control options. Looking then at option control on the radio side, i have looked at the radio BT setups, there is no option i can find to select which profiles to automatically connect. How to configure the BT settings so the iPhone is registered only for handsfree and not BT music? Pls note that have only the basic display audio...

I started using the Bluetooth connection to stream pandora over using entune lately because entune seems to take forever to start up and I just start pandora with Siri and turn to the Bluetooth input on my head unit. This worked good for a few weeks and now all the sudden it doesn't have sound.. The screen shows what song is playing and I can use my steering wheel controls to skip songs and it shows the progress bar of the song duration progressing but no sound? I have not tried it thru the entune app since this started happening so I am not sure if it works that way recently(I'm usually drivig and don't want to fumble around turning on hotspot to connect to entune).

I have the Premium 8 stereo in my '13 Tig. SE and when streaming music via Bluetooth on my iPhone 5S, the album art does not display on the head unit. It does not make a difference whether it is iHeart Radio, Pandora, iTunes Radio, Tune in Radio or straight off the iPhone 5 hard drive. The album art displays just fine when I am listening to HD radio.

I added my iPhone 5 to my Prius 2011. It works fine with the BT Phone, but fails on the Audio. Even I select the iPhone 5 as portable device, it still fails to connect.

When I connect a phone to my wife's Prius it pairs easily enough. The problem is, each time i start the car, it finds the phone and decides to tell the phone to start streaming music.

I noticed that when I active BT on my phone it connects to my cars phone BT automatically. But has a harder time when I try to connect to the portable audio player to stream music. I have to turn off the BT on my phone and turn it back on and then hit the "connect" button for the audio player and it works. Then I have to go back to the phone screen and hit connect again.

When I am listening to songs from iPhone there are buttons on my head unit (C2 radio NOT nav system) for play/pause, fwd, rewind BUT the rewind and fwd buttons only forward through the song it's playing (like you used to be able to do with cassette tapes) and it does NOT skip to the next song. How stupid is that? I have never seen a digital audio player that did this, the fwd/rewind always skip back a song or fwd a song BUT the prius head unit only skips through the song itself.

I have a new 2014 Prius Three. I am able to play music from my new ipad mini through my head unit via bluetooth. When I try to play video however, there is a 1-2 second audio lag behind the video.

Everytime, I get into my V I play my various podcast (via iPhone). However, its takes about a minute (as compared to my wife's RX which connects instantaneously). Why it takes such a long time? Bluetooth is always on and its be "paired".
Also, when I turn off audio, the screen simply shows blue screen with "audio off". Is there a way that I can always default to the map screen instead of going to apps --> maps --> show map? Not a biggie, but a nice to have for me.
