Gen 3 Prius (Audio/Electronics) :: 2010 - How To Adjust Sound Level To Compensate For Road Noise
Oct 9, 2010
This system has a feature that is supposed to adjust the sound level to compensate for road noise etc. I had a Ford with this feature and you could adjust the sensitivity. It worked great; adjust the volume sitting still and the volume went up and down as you traveled.
In the 2010 Prius, I have enable the feature but I cannot figure out if the sensitivity can be adjusted and I do not hear that it is working. I set the volume and start driving and as the road noise increases the sound just gets drowned out. If you turn it up, when you slow or stop it just blasts loudly; no adjustments at all.

I just purchased a 2010 Prius II. I have an I Phone 5. When I connect the phone thru Blue Tooth and listen to music app, I can only adjust the volume with the phone. I want to be able to adjust the volume with the car stereo volume knob.

I Just bought my 2010 Prius and have noticed an irritating background radio static while listening to fairly weak AM radio stations. This occurs when accelerating or slightly accelerating, but almost disappears upon letting up on the throttle. Toyota has no bulletins, or answer on RF noise suppression on Gen. III models. One note, I went to my Toyota dealership & the service manager suggested I drive a new Prius to see if the noise is in a different car. He went with me, and bingo, it was noticeable in the new car. He said there was no information on it, but would check with Toyota and get back.

My 2010 Prius version 9.1 NAV appears to starting lose information. The car is 10 months old. About a month ago I began to increasingly get the message that there were some sections of the route ahead that did not have route information. On the map, the blue route line is missing for these sections.

So I have the JBL 8 speaker system on my 2010 Prius with the Navi. The sound really seems to be all coming from the front. I have the fade adjusted in the center correctly, as well as left/right centered. I guess I was expecting a more dynamic sound that filled the car. I have to say I am not overly impressed with the sound quality.

I've got a 2010 Prius IV that I got back in July of 2010. My car's only option is the navigation system. I have not made any modifications to the car, with the exception of tinted windows.

I don't have a Prius with a built-in bluetooth function, so I purchased the Blackberry Bluetooth Stereo Gateway that gives me audio just by plugging in my 3.5mm jack.
Unfortunately, when the car's engine revs up, I get a very high-pitched audio interference noise. This does not happen when I am connected directly into my phone.

Is it normal for a clicking and ticking noise to constantly originate from the JBL audio navigation system? I've noticed this noise while the vehicle is in electric mode at a full stop. The noise is also present while driving.
I checked the 4 disc cd changer and they are empty. I usually use the blue tooth system to play the music.
2011 Prius III with JBL navigation system 9,000 miles on the odometer.

on my sub amp the wire out got hooked up my wires to my car speakers while replacing the battery and it went boom and there was a smell of burnt electrical. Now I don't have any sound coming out all in my car. I'm trying to figure out if it is a fuse problem or if I blew out all of my speakers, but before this happened I disconnected the center speaker by the screen because I wanted a more stereo sound in my car. I reattached the center speaker recently and still no sound. I looked at the fuses underneath the steering wheel and I couldn't find any blown fuses.

I'm wondering if this applies to all of you with JBL with navi system. My system's fader shows that it is set right in the middle between the front and back but it seems the front gets most of the sound and the back gets only a little until I move the cursor back a couple of notches. My parents have the same 2010 JBL with navi and theirs is the same thing. Is this normal or am I going crazy? If it is normal, why?

I've tried several times to listen to the XM/Sirius service without trying to cringe, but it's darn near impossible. It feels like I'm listening to an MP3 with a 64k bitrate. Is this normal?
The bass is fine, the highs are ok, but the midrange just sounds horrible. How to fix?

I have a 2012 Prius V and the rear speaker(s) hardly put out any sound. When I balance the system to get more output in the rear, I get hardly any sound in the frount. Is there an individual speaker adjustment? Is this normal or do I have defective speaker(s)?

I have a 2006 Prius with Nav/JBL audio. For nearly 8 months, my stereo has been cutting in/out intermittently. When it cuts out, it has the following effects: lights on the stereo itself dim almost entirely, and: AM - completely silent; FM - I hear fuzz; CD - music plays, but volume is significantly cut and sound is heavily distorted (particularly bass frequencies); AUX - acts the same as CD.
I've confirmed that the fuses are fine. Assuming it will fix my problem, I would like to replace the stereo with a new double-din deck, but I am not sure how to tell whether I am dealing with a stereo deck issue or a amplifier issue. Given the dimming of the lights, my guess is that it is the stereo itself and not the amp - I would prefer not to have to mess with replacing the amp.
Whether this sounds like a stereo deck problem vs an amplifier issue?

A month ago I bought a 2004 Prius with navigation and bluetooth. I paired it succesfully with my Google/LG Nexus 4 (Android 4.4.2). Now when I press the "call"-button on my steering wheel and enter a number, my phone dials that number, but when it is answered, I hear the sound over the phone's speaker, instead of the car's. The car's microphone doesn't seem to be picking up anything either.

I have a 2014 Prius 4, sunroof, jbl system, etc. I'd like to replace the NAV/sound system with an Apple Play setup and am wondering if this will violate the warranty, and if it's a complicated replacement. I still have a bit more than a year to go on the 3 yr, 36,000 mile warranty. Also, is there a certain brand of replacement system, Sony/Panasonic, etc., that would work well in this car.

2007 Prius with Nav System. Do I need a special cable to use the AUX jack in the arm rest? I have cable I tried to use and I show an AUX connection, but I get no sound out of the system.

I have a 2012 Prius v Model 5 without Tech Pkg. While streaming music from my iPod Touch via Bluetooth, the sound tends to skip or speed up as if you are pressing fast forward intermittently. Sound is fine when hard wired via USB. I don't recall this happening when the car was new.

It had worked fine until yesterday. Now there is very faint sound (cannot hear it at all without turning the volume way up and even then, it is very faint). Bluetooth phone works fine as does radio.
I have deleted and reinstalled the Bluetooth profiles from both the phone and car with no results. Interestingly it works fine with my ipad.
