Gen 2 Prius :: Raising The Dash Stopped The Squeak
Nov 19, 2013
I have had a squeak in my dash for the last 6 years. It comes and goes. I have tried many things to stop the squeak with no success.
I was determined to Stop the Squeak. I lightly tapped the dash and could hear the squeak. At one time it sounded like it was coming from the driver's side, another time it sounded like it was coming from the center of the dash. For some unknown reason, I placed my hand by the speedometer and realized if you stick your hand under the dash , it would lift up a little. I had some rubber pieces and I decided to place them under the dash as shown in the photo. In about 1 minute my dash squeak was gone. Apparently raising the dash stopped the squeak.I drove the car, and the dash squeak was finally gone.

Clicking in the dash while in motion. I hear clicking in the dash only while stopped (at a light, with the car running in normal driving.) As I slow, I start to hear relays clicking away behind the dash, a sort of constant clicking away in a random sequence, until I start moving again, and then it either stops or is drowned out by road noise.

My car: 2008 Prius (base)
Here is the problem: All of a sudden the two middle vents in the dash stopped blowing. I have played with the settings - on, off, all the way hot, all the way cold - nothing from the two mid vents. The left and right vent blow with no problem. There is also cold air coming from the vent near the windshield - just the two middle dash vents are not functioning.
What I have done so far: I had it looked at by a mechanic who I trust. He said there is a small motor (he called it a servo motor) that controls that middle vents (open/close). He said that had gone bad. He manipulated it so that the air blows out of the vents now and said not to change any settings until I am ready to replace the part.

We have a 2006 Prius that has never given me a bit of trouble the last 24 months or ownership. My wife was driving a few weeks ago and had multiple dash lights come on while stopped at a red light but the car was still acting fine. Light turned green she drove a couple miles at about 45-55mph to the gas station, shut her down, came back and everything returned to normal. Today it happened again but this time she got a picture of the lights that was on. SEE ATTACHMENT BELOW. the TPMS is always on by the way.

So, I think the glovebox lid, with the integrated air bag, is too heavy. My dash squeak around the glove box, particularly near the latch. I think the lid is too heavy and pulls on the latch, and this is causing some of the adhesive behind the trim to squeak. The noise stops if I (or the passenger) pushes on the area or if I open the glove box.

I have a 2015 Passat TSI. Everything is wonderful except for a rattling noise I hear in the far right side of the dash. I notice it during hot weather when the car has been out. I guess it's because the plastics are expanding and some of the parts are rubbing together or something..? If this is the case, how can I identify where it is? What should I do? Could it be something else?
Here's where it is : [URL] ...

A little back ground... Drove from NM to MN. Truck ran well averaged 13.5 mpg. hand calc'd (only .1 off of trip computer, I found it was typically a rounding difference). Shimmy and vibration from 70 to 80 mph, I am getting wheels rebalanced today. Rear AC blows very cold, front AC needs attention, coldish air blowing.
I have a squeak behind the bash on the passenger side. After about 300 miles of feeling in, under, over etc we couldn't find the squeak. After a bit we turned off the max AC and the squeak went away. Now it is a squeak with road movement but it only does it when the Max AC fan is running. When we got to Minnesota, we lifted the hood and I can move the whole AC unit and recreate the squeak/rattle. Is this movement usual? Would this be the cause of my front AC not blowing cold?

I recently bought a new Elantra 2012, 2 months ago. While driving it during the first month, I heard a strange vibrating noise. I went to the dealer, since it's under warranty until 2019, and they told me that when Hyundai did their recall on their Engines, the head gasket was constructed wrong and they just had to order another head to fix it.
Fast-forward two weeks and I finally got my car back. At first, it's perfect! No noise or anything, but about a week later, yesterday, it starts to make the noise again.
For my second noise, I know it's the brakes. They squeak when I stop, even though the company I bought the car from is not allowed to sell brakes >50%, I'm assuming they did anyway. The problem I have with this is that yesterday, while on the highway, the breaks made the squealing noise regardless if I was braking or not. As long as the car was in motion, it made noise. Should I be concerned about this?

Reading thru all the squealing noise posts made me want to ask about mine. I have started to notice a high pitched squeal/squeak that occurs while sitting stopped with your foot on the brake...then let off the brake and take off and get this momentary squeak that doesn't continue (at least I can't hear it). It seems to stop once you get going again.
Seems to be coming from the passenger side front. I think I started noticing this after my most recent tire rotation and balance. What the brake wear indicator sounds like or if I will get an icon on the mfi when the brakes need service. The brakes do not squeal when in use. I currently have 27000 miles.

I going crazy over this mad squeak in the bottom and back portions of my driver's seat. Several squeaks happen during regular driving and cornering. I weigh 215, but come on!!
Also the dash rattles, especially in the morning. It's right on top, in the middle, above the controls. I can push down and make it stop. I figure, I gotta pull off the dash plates and look underneath, but I'll take easier alternatives.

Odd problem has arisen in my wife's Passat. It's a sort of "chirp" or squeak that seems to be coming from underneath the passenger side dash. It only makes the noise while moving (whether it's 1mph or 100mph) but it's still intermittent and doesn't seem to happen under and exact driving conditions (happens most frequently when turning at low speeds, but can also happen rolling straight down the highway).
My first though would be the blower motor, sometimes it happens with the A/C off. I took it to the shop a few weeks ago and of course it stopped making the noise on the way there and it started back up on the way back. So now it's in the shop again.. Anyway, I managed to catch it on video [URL] ....

My Touareg developed a dash squeak last week. It seems like it's coming from where the dash and windshield come together. It sounds like plastic rubbing against glass.

Where another 09 owner had what he thought was a cold weather related squeak coming from the passenger side dash / windshield area. Mine does this and it's highly annoying. Here's what I've observed:
- seems to happen in cold temps, though I can't say what "cold" is...<40F perhaps?
- noticeable over bumps or whenever the car frame twists as a result of uneven road surface
- source seems to be the dash / windshield interface on the passenger side
- it's *possible* it may be coming from the top of the windshield as well
- it's very noticeable and highly irritating
Either with an 09 or earlier model? I cut a pool noodle and shoved it down between the glass and dash hoping the pressure would relieve whatever is rubbing. It appeared to work until the temps dropped into the 20s. Then it returned. I have a 2009 GLS, 5MT Sonata.

Is it possible to slightly raise the Idle speed of our R32s?
And if so, how is it done?
Is there a procedure with Vagcom?

Is there any way I can raise or lower the temperature without turning on the fan speed? For example if I want to raise the temperature from 68 to 72, I literally have to hit the "Lo" speed and then raise the temp.

I have approximately 45K miles on my 2013 GLS. For some time, I've noticed that when raising the driver door power window, it slows down and becomes sluggish about 1/2 way up, almost like it's struggling. When wet, it's worse and will start vibrating while being raised. I've tried WD40 in the window track, but that's not a permanent solution. Oddly enough, I had the same trouble with my 2001 Elantra over the life of the car.
