View 13 RepliesPrius 2004 with 86K miles. My brake led light on the driver side stopped working completely the other day. For some time now (6 months) i knew the top led of the brake light was not working, but yesterday I discovered that the whole led is failing. tail and parking light on the same assembly are working fine. I pulled off the plastic door inside the trunk and I checked connections for faulty ones but everything was tight in its place. Is there anything else I can do before preparing to go to the "butcher" dealer?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2004 Prius, the Red triangle came on intermittently and went off so I changed the 12V battery last night, after changing it the red warning light went off and everything seemed okay. Today while driving, the warning light came back on. I checked the battery voltage via diagnostic mode on the cars computer and the specs are what they should be. I noticed the following error codes in the computer:
01-D5, Sub-code: 190-30-8
01-DC, Sub-code: 190-B7-8
01-DC, Sub-code: 1C6-4D-F
Not sure if these are what is causing the problem.
I just got my Prius and made the test drive around the city. On my consumption screen, within 19 miles, I get only 24.9 MPG.
Does this normal for short distance driving? I heard some people got 40+ MPG or 50+ MPG.
Do I have to make longer drive in order to see the impact?
I have a 2004 prius and my MFD recently went out. So I decided to go looking for a good MPG app for my iphone since I could no longer use the car's built in feature.
I really don't like the native apps that just keep the data confined to the phone and I find emailing my data around and having to do things in a spreadsheet to be painful.
I want my data all online, but the app to be native, so it's snappy and responsive.
With my ac/ heating system set in the off position, my ac comes on all on it's on with fan . This happens after I have been driving for awhile.
View 13 RepliesI have a 2007 Prius and my driver's side headlight is out. From what I've read, the HID lights are difficult to replace. How do I tell what kind of headlight I have? I want to make sure I am getting the correct replacement bulb.
View 5 RepliesI took my car in for an oil change and the mechanic said I needed to have my water valve replaced. Based on everything I've read, this is too much. I said I'd have it done later as I had no real symptoms. Well, today I'm on the road and I get the check engine light to come on, pull into an AutoZone and the reading is a P1121 code. No other codes.
View 8 RepliesI was playing around with my Prius the other day and discovered something disturbing...
Do the following:
Get in the car
Start it
Take the keys out and put them inside
get in the car
drive away.
I did this yesterday and drove away without the keys and the car never turned off.
2006 Prius, 115,000 Miles, Start battery just replaced after 9 years, drive battery original. Noticed a new noise, like a chirping noise, similar to the brake noise when you press the brake peddle hard and they chirp. Was told this is normal and was some pump noise.
This moving noise appears at 27-28 MPH. It appears generally on almost flat roads. It appears with the engine is running @ 1184 RPM + or -, 0 RPM when the electric motor is moving the Prius/Gas engine off, cruise control on or off.
Appears to be coming from the front of the car. I thought it might be a nail in the tires, or wheel bearings, but no nails are found and the tries are balanced and rotated every 5,000 Miles.
Just had a Toyota mechanic take a ride, and he thought it sounds like the HV system trying to maintain the speed, sort of adding and reducing tork. At least that was what I gathered from his comments, but said its safe to drive. Another noise, like engine noises associated with the Prius that we all have accepted as part of this type Hybrid system.
My 2006 Prius HV battery recently died after 144,000 miles. I got a new battery. To my surprise my mileage has dropped from 45 to 37 mpg. I contacted the dealer repair shop and they told me that the computer system needs to "re-learn" how to optimize the synchronization between gas engine and electric motor. The process can take 2 to 5 thousand miles.
View 11 RepliesMy 2006 Prius MFD still works, but when I try to select a button (let's say fan speed of climate control), when I press a button on the left side of the screen, a button on the right side of the screen engages. This is somewhat common on all screens. It's like the programming of the X-Y coordinates of the pressed section of the screen is offset. If I press the medium fan speed, it highlights high speed. As I press buttons moving from the medium speed down to low, the selected buttons highlight from high down to medium. If I press the A/C button, the fresh/recirculating air button highlights and toggles.
The display has been working perfectly until now (150k miles). I did recently get my car detailed which entailed cleaning the MFD of fingerprints, but I can't imagine that did anything as this is a pressure sensitive display, rather than capacitive.
On another note, my volume knob is mostly useless and sometimes the volume goes up and down on its own. Luckily I still have control over volume from my steering wheel. However this is a rare occurrence.
I'm more worried about the MFD because of the expense of replacing it as well as its control of Air Conditioning (as it's getting hot in Texas these days). Most of the threads I've read talks about blacked out screens rather than a offset problem.
Car will not go into drive or reverse. It's almost like it's in a "limp mode." Red triangle with ! and yellow circle with ! are lit. No codes come up. If I remove the positive terminal for a few minutes (and replace it), it'll pop into drive and function as usual but the lights will come back a few minutes later. After some reading on here, I've deducted that it may be the Hybrid Inverter (probably not since it still drives and charges, correct?) or the Hybrid Coolant Pump. How do you know when either of these two items fail? I don't have any codes to go off.
Here is some other info...
2005 Prius One
New traction battery (last night)
New 12v battery (today)
I know this subject has been addressed but it seems as though everyone else's circumstances and solution was different.
View 19 RepliesI'm going in tomorrow to the dealer to have the combination meter replaced under the ZTV warranty. I pulled into my driveway tonight and I can not turn off the car.
View 12 RepliesMy low-pressure hose got a hole in it and now my A/C only blows warm air due to the leaked refrigerant. How to remove the hose at the connections as it is not using standard steel hose clamps.
View 6 RepliesMy wife and i just bought a 2006 Prius (the first hybrid for us) and the CEL has come on. I don't know a lot about these or if this subject has been touched on here. I took the car to my local Advance and the codes came up as follows:
C1241, P0420.
This car has 182,xxx miles on it and I haven't had a chance to get a shop manual yet.
My Prius alarm keeps going off. Only way to turn off is to put fob in car and start. Is there a fuse I can pull or a wire I can cut? I don't have the $ to get the alarm fixed.
View 3 RepliesMy AC is not working well. It's cold for a few seconds and then room temp for a minute or so and then cold for a few seconds. The system is charged and it fades in and out at all settings. Does a temp sensor control how long the cold air is allowed to run as well as how cold it is?
View 2 RepliesOn Saturday morning I decided to wash our 2008 Prius - what a beautiful morning - sun shining - birds signing - pollen covering the car.
My wife and I pulled up to where the car would go onto the track that would push it through the car wash... I put it in PARK (did not power off) and we went into the car wash building. My wife remarked on whether or not the guys would know how to get it to move up onto the track, being a Prius... I said they must see them all the time - I'm sure it won't be a problem.
Sure enough, a few mins later, here comes the prius through the car wash... and here is where it all fell apart.
Being a beautiful Saturday morning, the car wash was PACKED and there were at least 20 cars behind us...
Here comes the prius out of the wash and someone gets in to move it to a free spot in the lot so it can be dried and detailed... and the guy can't get it to move... I watched him struggle for a min then went over to offer assistance...
When I got in, I couldn't get it to power on... I quickly noticed the key FOB was gone!! I asked where the keys were... nobody knew and a search ensued.
no one could find the keys nor knew what had happened.
Bought 2005 new, Bought 100,000 mile warranty. At about 90,000 miles had a problem. Dashboard lights did not come on, rear hatch would not unlock, car would not turn off, key would not come out. Dealer could not figure out problem. Problem happened intermittently, Took it in 3 times, Nobody knew what to do but finally they replaced a computer somewhere in the dash I think. 2 years and 70,000 miles later the problem has started again. 2 years ago dealer said techs had not encountered with this problem. Hard to believe it is only my car, twice!
