my water pump broke they other day and then i was lifting up my seat and notcie it was wet. the whole left side of my car under the carpet is wet. why do you think there is water is only on th eleft side. could it be becuase the water pump broke??
View 19 RepliesI replaced my timing belt, tensioner and water pump last weekend because I noticed I was leaking coolant from the water pump. The other day I popped my hood after driving and notice the reservoir bubbling a little bit because it sounded like the coolant was boiling and the line coming into the top of the reservoir felt hotter than normal. I opened the cap slowly and never heard any pressure release. I figured it was air in the line somewhere so I tried to work the air out. It sounded like the air came out and I took it for a drive and I finally heard pressure release after 3 different attempts. I opened the cap later when it was cool and noticed that the coolant was still at the original level.
Then the next day I was driving and came to a stop and noticed white smoke coming out when I gave it gas. It still drove fine though. I pulled over and opened the cap slowly but didn't hear any pressure release. I put in a little bit of radiator sealant and it seemed to do the trick.
The car has never overheated and there's no oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. The heat also seems to be working correctly and my fans come.
Just want to make sure I'm naming the part correctly. It's a pump that between the radiator and the block. It stays on after the car is turned off. This is on a 2005 GLI 5 speed tip.
Lately, its not turning on. If it does, it's just for a brief moment and then turns off. After some searching, I've read post of other asking about by-passing it. Would that be a benefit? What's gained from that? I understand the pump is on while the engine is running, does it provide additional cooling? I'm planning on checking it out this weekend and wondering if it could be rebuilt? Could you guys indicate which vendor on the web has the best price?
My tensioner pulley broke yesterday and I replaced it. But it had broken 3-4 months ago also.

View 10 RepliesI am having a really tough month with finances, and life in general... and now my car's engine has died on me. I drive a Mazda Protege 2000 ES with 197,000 miles on it.
The problem started with the water pump failing; I decided not to drive the car that much, if at all until I could get it fixed. I always kept an eye for the water and the temp gauge, and I thought it could last a couple of short trips at least. Well today was my appointment with the mechanic, and the belt broke off... The water pump went all lose, and I suddenly felt the steering was starting to fail too. So I decided to pull over... before even reaching the side of the road, the battery indicator was lit, then all the other lights came in, and fumes were coming out from the front.
In the shop my mechanic tried starting the car and said that the compression was lost and that the engine was dead. I actually don't want to see the car go... And everyone think it is stupid, but what I am thinking is... All I can afford right now is another $2000 car, which will mean that I might need to fix a bunch of stuff again anyways. So why not just replace the engine? The engine is what basically makes a car... a car. The rest of the car seems fine, and I never thought it would die all suddenly .

View 3 RepliesI busted a spring and apparently a strut. The mechanic said I'd need to replace the front suspension, and offered to do it for 1000$ which I thought was very high. Now I am debating whether to simply get a cup kit or coil overs. I am leaning towards the cup kit to save money. Now I am curious what you guys think regarding the H&R cup kit and where I could get the best deal on them.
View 23 RepliesAlright, so upon starting my car earlier today, i was unable to get the fuel pump to turn on and send fuel to the motor, car will crank over and want to start, theres just no fuel getting to it. I'm going to replace the fuel pump relay and clean up the throttle body to cover the simple stuff. also i recently just installed a 3 inch down pipe, could have the o2 sensors shorted as a result of a bad knock?
View 2 RepliesSo the other day i found a lake on the floor behind the drivers seat. Everywhere else is dry but there. A few days prior I got tapped by a ram enough to crack my rear bumper on the drivers side. I am wondering if the water came in through the crack? Everything is dry though under the spare tire . I know there's vents on the sides behind the bumper, but I don't think I got hit hard enough or at the right angle to bust a seal on the vents. I also blew air through the sunroof drains and they were all clear. Windows were closed and all doors were closed when it rained.

View 8 RepliesI noticed that my floors were wet. To the touch they weren't soaked or even a puddle. It was just a damp feeling. I took a moisture reader to the carpet and sure enough I was right. I used a space heater to dry out my carpet. I had it all dry and now some moisture is back and where it gets tricky. The floors that are wet, are in the middle of the foot well in the rear of the car. When I use the moisture reader, I try and follow a leak along the carpet but I can't not for the life of me figure where this water is coming in at. After a lot of teams each most issues seem to be leaky sun roof or leaky seal on windshield. I've cut the nipples off of my sun roof drains already. What can cause this water? have any way to test where it maybe leaking from? In the footwells there are frame bumps and the water is most wet in that location.

I have had my car parked for about 2 1/2 months and I just started it this weekend and I've always noticed on our cars when we start them in the morning I think it's the secondary air pump that turns on, it sounds like a blow dryer.. It only stays on for about 10 seconds maybe. Cause when I started my car this weekend I didn't hear come on.
View 3 RepliesOk, car won't start. fuel pump not priming. tested the fuse, no power coming to it, fuse is good. even used another fuse. my flex connection on my dp blew out, rusty had a leak there for a while. in any case patched it up McGyver style till a new dp arrives. I backed the car off the ramps and shut it off to clean up. when I went to test drive it fuel pump wasn't priming.

View 13 RepliesHave a little oil on the outer part of the turbo and its making a raspy noise when my turbo is spoiled not sure whats going on the car pulls just as hard and boost levels are normal i had a check engine light on for a few days right after this started code was for p0411 dont think its related cause i know my secondary air pump whistles at cold start so im assuming that the code is for that and not related to the turbo.

I happened to look behind the passenger side seat and there was 3in. of water on the floor so i looked up at the sunroof and there wasn't any stains or anything from water as well as the doors windows everything... View 4 RepliesSo i have a 2005 mkiv TR GLI. I had thought that the car leaks water at the front passenger side however it was a little drip, until last night. It rained heavily last night and I got in my car to find a good amount of water under my front passenger side mat, nowhere else. I left no windows open, and it looks to be running down between the side of the dash, and the inside of the door on the passenger side.
