Sounds like maybe from exhaust, I could be wrong but what that is? Just started today...

View 10 RepliesI've never had this happen before or never heard it. but yesterday for the first time as I was driving I could hear a really tin canny sounding rattle. I'm not sure if it was from the wheel well area or under the steering wheel in the dash. I only noticed it when I was at lower RPMs in second gear. (And its not the typical MKIV rattle sounds)...
View 2 RepliesJust recently bought a 04 gli. When I shift in to 3rd and let off the gas there is a weird grinding rubbing like noise. It only makes the noise when it's in 3rd gear...
View 3 RepliesWhen driving my car, my oem shifter makes a clicking noise going into gear. is there a way to get it to stop, other than getting a short throw?
Looking for 2004 gli all weather floor mats? or ones that would fit?
[IMG][URL] ....
I drive a 2005 Jetta GLI 1.8T 6 speed O2M transmission.
I was redlining 1st 2nd and it wouldn't go into 3rd tried 2-3 times finally did. but I believe it went into first instead! I think I was driving like 50-60 mpg I don't know. Anyways it JERKED BADLY. I think right after it started making a noise. sounds like the manifold or downpipe gasket. I know the flex part of my cheap downpipe started like tearing and ripping, so I thought that just broke thru. maybe I don't know. I drove the car home. tranny worked flawlessly. every gear very smooth like always. (redline tranny fluid). at home I jacked it up took the bumper off. and listened where the sounds were coming from. not power steering. it sounds like a hose is loose. but I checked nothing. I put my ear next to the tranny. sounds like it coming from there. nothing changes when I depress the clutch. when I start driving the sound goes away I think. can't hear the cause of aftermarket exhaust. and stage 2 chip tunning APR 93.
After all, that believing it the downpipe. I put everything back on and drove it about 10 miles and this other sound came in. happened in 2nd after like 4-5krpm. maybe it was there from the beginning. I drove it slowly under 3k. but this sound is like rattling and kinda vibrates the clutch a little. it happens after I accelerate and take my foot off the gas pedal. kinda when slowing down. I drove parked the car 2 hours later drove it home and 2-5th gear was making this rattling sound now.
I don't know what to do. I need to drive a car. should I drive it or not? do I need a new tranny/ is it fixable? should I park the car and take the tranny off/
how tightly are the flywheel bolts suppose to be tightened? something loose?
I did an auto to 6-speed swap.
So I picked up a 20th today. The clutch has 30k on it its an oem luk. Drove fine most of the ride home then i went to shift and it wouldn't grab. Got it towed home. trans goes into all gears fine. When you put it in first and try to go it starts to roll but just makes a grinding type noise and doesnt go into gear. I didn't hear any chatter until maybe 10 miles before this happened. I still have pressure in the clutch pedal as well. when the car is in neutral running there isnt any noise which makes me think it isnt the throw out bearing.
View 2 RepliesI just installed a brand new 42DD downpipe in my car about two weeks back. About a week later, I started noticing a rattle that I hadn't heard before, coming from the undercarriage, about mid way back, where I assumed the downpipe is. I only hear the rattle at low RPMs, like 1000-1500 revs, when I pull away from a light. I can stop the rattle by giving it more gas before letting the clutch all the way out, but if it's something I can easily fix myself, I'd rather just do it.
I searched some DIYs and found this. [URL]..................................... I bought new sets of stage 1 dogbone mounts that I need to put in soon, probably next week when I'm on break, if that will remedy it.
On my gti when in low revs, theres a rattle that sounds like a shield but I've check the one around that cat and the one under the turbo. but it still rattles. What this could be?
View 3 RepliesDid some searching on this and some said it could be the throw out bearing, some sort of intake rod or something like that, or possibly a heat shield..
Figured I'd ask to see if there has been more of a solution as the threads seemed pretty old.
When I accelerate or rev, the car has a rattling sound coming from the passenger side. If i take the car out of gear and slow down or let it idle, the noise disappears completely.
The center of my steering wheel rattles (part that you press for your horn) is there any way to tighten this?
View 4 RepliesI've got an AE edition GTI which has developed a very annoying rattle coming from the button on the hand brake. I'm trying to disassemble it to get to the chrome covered button which is rattling, but can't seem to get the leather wrapped plastic cover off. I've already pulled the center console out and have tried squeezing, pulling, etc every which way (on the leather wrapped cover).
View 12 RepliesThe front of the hood on the right towards the headlight is rattling pretty bad, but stops whenever I place pressure on the hood on the right side. The hoods shut all the way so I'm not sure whatsup. Not a big deal just pretty annoying.
View 1 RepliesRecently I have gotten a very loud and annoying rattle coming from my heat shield I think. I jacked the car up and tried to locate where the issue was but that wasn't successful. Do I need the heat shield by the muffler? And do you think it could be my cat rattling?
View 14 RepliesMy passenger side door panel over bumps has a slight rattle, seems like it's coming from the upper door toward the window...
View 15 RepliesDriving home from work, I was about 5 minutes from home, got to a light only to not be able to go into 1st. I popped it into 2nd and drove home like that pretty much. Car will let me get into reverse and all other gears.
I can put the shifter towards first but it doesn't fully go in and when I gave it gas it would let me start to creep and then grind a little and pop out.
Heres a pic for your click .....
I have a problem with my 20th anniversary gti. My 1st and 2nd gear won't work. Every other gear works fine, the gears never grind before or any unusually noise. I was pulling off my driveway and they just stop working. Even when the car it's on I can move my shifter to 1st and 2nd without the clutch and nothing happens.
View 3 RepliesSo I get in the car to move my car this morning and I can't get the car into 1st gear. It turns out I can't get the car into reverse, 1st gear, or even 3rd gear. It feels like something is blocking me from even approaching those gears, however the others (2,4,5,&6) seem to be fine.
View 14 RepliesI bought a rebuilt trans from a fellow vortex member a little over a month ago. I had it installed and ever since then when I am getting on it going from second to third it grinds a little bit going into third gear. It only does this when i get on it, but when im just cruising its fine. Could the shift linkage just need aligned? Or what else could it be?
View 5 RepliesAs of two days ago my car ust refused to go into 1st gear. I know that it is a common occurrence with the 02j and shift fork, but 2nd works perfectly, so how could it be that shift fork?
View 16 RepliesSo I've been noticing that my GLi is tough to put into first gear sometimes. I feel almost like I have to jam it in place and hold it there, it doesn't just click in. Could this be the shifter cable ends or the cables themselves? Its weird... its only ever been a problem for 1st gear though.
View 15 RepliesI was driving home and noticed that it seemed harder to shove the gear shift into 1st gear. I stopped on the way home and discovered that I couldn't put the car into reverse, when I tried, and then started to drop the clutch and go in reverse, it was as if the car was locked into both reverse and a forward gear, the engine would bog and the car wouldn't budge.
I popped the hood and checked the shift rods and they looked OK, no obstructions or broken parts. I played with the gears for a bit and finally reverse gear suddenly started working again, but now 1st and 2nd gear are gone! it does not feel as if it's engaging the gears at all, the lever moves free. No different than having it in neutral. 3rd gear and above all still work OK, so I had to use 3rd gear to get the car moving.
