Car was running fine on friday when I left for detroit, it sat in my driveway all weekend, but on the way to work this morning I get a warning light to STOP and my temp gauge is right below 260. It took about 10 miles for the light to come on and the car does NOT overheat while idling. The car is only at 52k and I have not replaced the water pump/timing belt yet.
View 13 RepliesWas driving home yesterday from work and the dash light up saying the car was overheating. Was too dark last night to look at everything so this morning I checked all the fluids and everything was OK.
Drove around the block a few times and noticed when starting the car the thermostat said normal temperature (straight up) even though it was cold, then climbed into the redzone, dropped to zero, then shot back up into the red. the upper radiator hose is hot so fluid is flowing.
Thoughts are bad water pump, thermostat, or blown head gasket after going though my repair book. Not sure how to check any of these. Also ran VAG and nothing came up.
I just drove the GLI from pa to myrtle beach for vacation. On the way back I noticed the temp was steadily rising while idling at a red light then at a gas station. Coolant level is fine. Thermostat, water pump, thermostat, and both temp sensors were recently replaced in the last two months.
So I know none of those things are a variable. Both fans never come on. I tried turning on the ac to get them to come on. But nothing. I read as much as I could on forums to find a solution but none applied to my specific problem.
Car is completely stock besides p flow intake. Has 153000 miles I'm pretty sure everything involving fan is original.
So a few days ago the warning light that my break pads are getting low came on. My friend needs a ride this weekend that would bring the round trip to about 300 miles. How soon are my break pads on my 20th going to be shot? I don't know if this is an early warning to let you plan to get break pads in the near future, or if it's the same thing as seeing the gas light(Oh crap, gotta head to the gas station and fix this NOW).
View 7 RepliesHave a jazz blue chipped tuned with giac.. It does this random times.. When I come to a red light on idle the rpms go up and down just a bet but never stalls. The car vibrates and the engine shakes a bit. Engine is stable when car is on and off. Idk if its motor mounts or what?
View 10 RepliesStop check coolant light came on dash tonight. Scanned the car no code. Did a search pointed towards coolant temp sensor. Car had it replaced by vw estimate of 30,000 miles ago. I tried to see if its green top sensor appears the very bottom ring is green but top is black maybe vw's is different than ecs? Planning to do water pump, belt kit from ecs anything else i should be looking at?
View 1 RepliesAfter a full complete stop or slow down to almost complete stop upon acceleration from that stop or slow down my dash brake light blinks and yells at me for the standard amount of time then goes away. It only does it upon acceleration its weird its almost instantaneous with me pressing the gas pedal. No squealing noise or anything else is coming from the rotors and everything feels normal its just starting to get annoying as hell.
About 6 months ago I replaced my pads and rotors with the drilled and slotted kit performance-cafe offers and had it professionally installed because, I'm lazy and it would have take me years to do it. This problem only started recently so I'm pretty sure its something else or something went bad. What I should check or have specifically looked at if I take it in?
What makes the brake light on the dash blink and beep after every stop? I've checked my e brake and made sure it was off so I know that cant be the issue

View 9 RepliesSo I noticed one day when I was standing outside of my car right after I had turned it off that I could hear the coolant bubbling some. I had just recently flushed the coolant, put on a new water pump, thermostat, and put in a new reservoir with a new cap so I figured it was just some air in the system because there was air in the top radiator hose. So I just worked the air out and thought that was it. The next time I drove my car it did it again and there was no pressure release when I took off the cap either. I ended up getting the head worked on (valve job and check the head for warping). Even after all of this my reservoir doesn't seem to build pressure and every time there also seems to be air in the top radiator hose. After the car is warm I can work coolant back in the hose and 5 minutes later theres air back in it. I've pretty much replaced everything with the cooling system besides the hoses within the last year so I don't know what it could possibly be.
View 2 RepliesMy brothers jetta is over heating constantly. The thermo switch on the radiator and controller box under the battery have been replaced. The fans dont come on till just before the red mark on the gauge. There are no water leaks, and we can hear gurgling when running the engine. How can we tell if the water pump is bad or not and where is the thermostat if it has one.
View 2 RepliesSo just for a little bit of a background, I have an Imola 20th with 165k miles on it lowered on B&G's, stage II+ unitronic w/ Franken turbo setup.
I've been running into some issues with the ride as of late, well, more than usual, and I can't seem to figure any of it out. First, the car kept overheating even when it wasn't warm outside after driving for only about 10-15mins. Took it to the shop, and they said that the fan & fan motor died on me and so they replaced that and the blower motor resistor, but then a month later I was back at the shop getting the fan replaced again. A month later, I was at another shop getting the fan switched, and not even two months later I was back at the original shop having the fan swapped out yet again because the previous one died. It's been a couple weeks now since the last fan being switched out and I'm starting to see some overheating issues yet again when the A/C isn't turned on and blasting. That's problem number 1.
Problem 2 would be all of the dash lights that randomly keep coming up; the traction control and ABS lights have been on for about three months now. Just last week the dash light for the airbag came on, and then today the light stays on for the door saying that it's open but the interior lights don't stay on like what's typical seen when the door is open. Also, every now and then when I start the car up the brake light will flash/beep a couple times then stay lit the whole time I'm driving around, but when I turn the car off then turn it back on again the brake light isn't lit...the airbag, ABS, traction, and door lights are still lit. I plugged a reader up to it, and no codes are showing and everything says it's checked out. Not to mention, the car has been idling real funny lately, usually sitting at 800rpm's then randomly dropped to around 400 to where the car almost dies off then it just shoots right back up.
I replace my timing belt and water pump and my engine is now over heating. I notice it's only over heats when the ac is running and the engine is idling. When I start to drive the engine temp goes down.

View 4 RepliesA few weeks ago my alternator workshop and battery light came on while i was driving. I made it home and the next day my battery was dead so logically figured my alternator went. I replaced the alternator and the lights went out, but as I drive it will flash on and off real quick and sometimes it comes on at higher rpms and sometimes it doesn't even come on. I've been looking around for an answer but I cant seem to find one. I've read that it could be the belt or the tensioner.
View 1 Repliesso, I'm driving home the other day in stop and go 102 degree traffic, and my A/C cuts out. I thought maybe my compressor took a dump, because I've noticed a little noise from that side of the engine. Then I look down, and notice my water temp is like 240-250ish. As soon as traffic starts up again, temp goes down to normal, and A/C comes back.
I have a 2 mile commute to work, so it hasn't happened since then.
no DTC's, no rad fan. A/C fan works. Put 12V to fan - no worky. fuse block on top of battery not melted.
Obviously I need a fan, but I was wondering about something else. since this started, my car gets to normal operating temp (NOT), in literally under 2-3 minutes. I know its Texas and a billion million degrees, but I think that's too fast.
Green top coolant temp sensor, and metal impeller water pump already installed.
My 2006 VW GLI keeps having an intermittent seat belt warning chime even though my seat belt is fastened (and there is no one on the passenger side). It's nearly impossible to reproduce this problem as it will do it at different times of the day and sometimes not for a week. It generally chimes anywhere from 5-10 min despite the seat belt being fastened. I've tried re-buckling and I've tried shaking the buckle and neither worked.
View 2 RepliesSo I recently swapped out my cabin air filter, no other major changes or issues... but ever since I noticed that when I'm in neutral or at a stop, I can start to smell the faint odor of exhaust fumes. No CELs and it's not coming from the gas tank area like I know some have experienced - only from the vents. It's noticeable to me, but nothing unbearable by any means. I definitely never had this before - and my old filter was really dirty so not sure why a new one would give me any issues of have anything but BETTER air quality. I notice that I can curb the smell by pushing the circulate air button, effectively shutting off any outside air from coming in.

View 7 RepliesMy rear brakes on my 20th are warped and are squeaking like crazy when i come to a stop. I've never had to look at brakes so I don't know what to look for. What are some good replacement rotors /pads for the rear. I just use the car for daily driving nothing crazy.....
