GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Oil Leaking, Won't Find A Hole

I can't see where it's coming from but it's leaking onto my TIP. it's not a lot though.

View 4 RepliesI've had the car about 3 months now. It runs fine, never overheats, but I keep having to add coolant (every 2 weeks or so), but I can't see a leak anywhere.
I searched and found one guy that said it could be a bad expansion tank cap, and another that said it could be a tiny leak that only leaks when driving.
Anyway, when replacing my axle, I noticed this:
If that's dried coolant, where would that be from?
Changing the oil in my friends gli tonight and the drain plug ended up becoming stuck in the oil pan hole, just spinning in both directions and not tightening or loosening. He has the hybrid oil pan, and we took the bottom steel part off, do they sell just that part so I could fix the stripped drain hole, or should I try and salvage the one I have now and rethread the hole with a bigger drain plug?
View 1 RepliesFor the past few weeks, I've been struggling to find out why my windscreen keeps getting a light oily film after using the washer fluid (RAIN-X de-icer, which I've used for years). I replaced the wiper blades this past spring with an OEM/dealer set (worked perfectly), but recently noticed a streak from the right wiper that basically draws a vertical line right in front of my (driver's) line of sight. That is, when the right wiper comes all the way left before returning, it's that position of the blade that leaves an oily streak behind. Very annoying.
I first thought it was just road/winter dirt, but then went to a gas station, and touched the screen. It was oily. Further to that, it had an oily build-up on the blades (wiping them off with paper towel got all this black gunk off). I also noticed that the run-off on the lower part of the windscreen was oily too.
On top of that, the wiper arms had an oily film on them, which I'm wondering if it is a result of something from the wiper fluid, the resevoir, a pump issue, etc.
I do not see any leaks of the washer fluid on the ground. Is there some way that the washer fluid is getting contaminated with a light grade oil that is then being dispersed on my windscreen?? This is really weird, but is also very frustrating, especially when the weather in winter requires increased usage of the fluid.
I've had the leak for a long time now possibly from when I've gotten it... anyway when I first bought it I drove it a lot, like 8k miles in 6 months. During that time I went through a qt of oil about every week and a half. Now the last 3 months I've been barely driving it due to life changes so I'm barely putting oil in I'll go weeks sometimes of checking the level and it'll be fine. This leak has to relate with how often its driven and maybe hot?
I've had the car up multiple times to try and find the spot all I know is it's behind the engine below the valve cover gasket and above or near the turbo area(I've only owned my first VW this 20th for less then a yr so I'm still learning)
I replaced my timing belt, tensioner and water pump last weekend because I noticed I was leaking coolant from the water pump. The other day I popped my hood after driving and notice the reservoir bubbling a little bit because it sounded like the coolant was boiling and the line coming into the top of the reservoir felt hotter than normal. I opened the cap slowly and never heard any pressure release. I figured it was air in the line somewhere so I tried to work the air out. It sounded like the air came out and I took it for a drive and I finally heard pressure release after 3 different attempts. I opened the cap later when it was cool and noticed that the coolant was still at the original level.
Then the next day I was driving and came to a stop and noticed white smoke coming out when I gave it gas. It still drove fine though. I pulled over and opened the cap slowly but didn't hear any pressure release. I put in a little bit of radiator sealant and it seemed to do the trick.
The car has never overheated and there's no oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. The heat also seems to be working correctly and my fans come.
I have a peculiar problem. When auto crossing and driving the car hard, the lug bolts on only the front driver's side wheel have a tendency to loosen. I torque the bolts to 100 ft-lbs with a torque wrench, so I am confident they are tight before I start driving. The retaining screw holding the rotor in place loosens as well. The wheel has fallen off once already while driving.
I do notice in the transition from accelerating to decelerating (only sometimes) that there is a stuttering from the front driver's side (sounds a little like an out of balance wheel). When it happens, it's often at 55MPH in 5th and at lower speeds in lower gears. The car was leaking a little trans fluid too (.5qt), but I can't tell from where. It has since stopped.
Bought a 04 GLI had the bad engine, had the engine installed sat at the shop for nearly a year. Towed car to my house to finish it and now I am running into their lack of knowledge and fixing their crap. Now the current issue...On the thermostat housing, a nipple that comes off the side has nothing connected and leaking coolant.
View 7 RepliesI have a 05 gli and leaking water from drive side visor towards the sun roof. Would the drain be clogged from the sunroof. My seat is getting wet....
View 7 RepliesI just got my 337 a few days ago and I got out today after a short drive and smelled coolant. Immediately thought the worst but luckily I found this hose to be leaking. What hose this is its on the left side just about the throttle.
View 11 RepliesAfter researching this for weeks, I think I've found that the pollen filter seal is worn and that's why I'm having water leaking onto my front passenger side floor. My car alarm has been going off randomly too. Every time it rains the floor is soaked. It's not the sunroof drain plugs. I already tried that. I need to fix this ASAP!!! How do I fix a worn pollen filter seal? I have a caulk gun ready!
View 11 RepliesI've discovered a rusted hole leaking oil from the oil pan on my 2006 Sonata GLS 2.4L 4 cylinder.
Trying to find a replacement oil pan but I'm not having any luck online. The oil pan for the 3.3L is for sale everywhere, but not for the 2.4L.
Googling suggested the OEM part number might be 21510-25051 but I can't confirm that?
I have a 1.8T 2000 Passat (ATW) that has an oil leak. I can't find the leak but it seems to be under the intake. It's a kind of slow leak and more annoying than anything. I replaced the valve cover gasket a couple of years but it was leaking at the back of the engine instead of the side. It may be the valve cover gasket again.
View 3 RepliesI was driving back home from work and I happen to notice smoke. Oil is coming out of the top of the dipstick hole not the bottom o ring. It seems the crank is building too much pressure . It's a 1990 5sfe so it does not have a pcv valve, ithasa pcv system which is basically a hose from the valve cover to the throttle body.
This does not happen initially when I turn the car on from a cold start. I turn it on leave it at idle for a while and even rev it up and hold it high. It starts to leak after about a 2 mile drive and the car is at running temperature. I removed the hose on the valve cover when the car was at idle and a good amount if air blows out when at idle now when I rev the car up the air blowing out drops some.
Fluid coming from my 2006 2.0T Passat:
- Oily feel, pink color (transmission fluid)
- Noticed coming from the middle, or perhaps the front part of the engine compartment, just off center on the drivers side
- Only seen after the car sits overnight, in my garage (no dripping seen for hours after parking)
- Leaves a 10in diameter sized slick on the garage floor that I wipe up with a paper towel in the morning
Suspecting a transmission fluid leak, I paid my dealer a visit and was told, "must be another car leaking, because all your fluids are topped off, your cooling system is holding pressure and your engine compartment is clean."
I have a 94 Camry left to me by my father inlaw when he died a year ago. I notice antifreeze coming from a weep hole just above one of the alternator mounting brackets. Whats involved with replacing the water pump and timing belt? Im guessing thats what it is and while I am in there I will replace the timing belt as I dont believe either have been replaced. The car has about 160,000 miles on it. I kept my Windstar going for about 250,000 miles before my daughter wrapped it around a tree so Im sure its something I can handle. The problem is time as we are getting into winter. Is it a major job or something that can be done in a few hours?
View 5 RepliesWe now have a new problem. Motor is leaking antifreeze out of what i will call a weeping hole in the on the #5 cylinder side of the block. The hole, which is manufactured in the block. Is where the antifreeze is seeping from. The hole is located above the bottom bolt an just below the top bolt for the transmission. the hole is on the block. I think that there might be a freeze out plug on the back of the motor block where the leak is coming from. The block was not leaking before we removed the heads for valve job.
View 3 RepliesI am replacing my leaking power steering pump. I checked the hose connections and it doesn't appear that the leak is coming from there. I have removed the right front wheel and have the car on jack stands. It is really tight under there.
If I remove the cross member under the power steering pump will that allow me to get the old power steering pump out and the new one back in?
Will the removal and reinstall of the cross member affect alignment.
I am using Lexus GS-300 2006, I have problem with Aircon have leaking water inside both Driver and Passenger. And I cannot find where is the Drain Tube.
View 2 RepliesI've looked at [URL] at the three primary hitch receivers for the 2013 RX 350; Curt, Hidden, Draw-tite.
From the side profile picture which etrailer displays for each, the Curt has one hole and the other two have two. Those two appear to be different sizes. The one on the Curt seems to appear smaller than the larger of the other two holes on the other two hitch receivers.
I called etrailer and the person I spoke with could not tell me why they were different, they just read the specs I see on the page, tongue weight, load, blah, blah.
With my hitch, I will need to haul a Yakima trailer, about 450 Ibs total, it is a very lightweight trailer, or a 2" Yakima bike rack. Maybe some day, I'll need to haul something of substance, but I have no plans.
I'm also wondering if a hitch which is recessed back, will it be difficult to work the pin in and out?
I want a 20th AE & have seen pics that say ESP on a button next to the hazard & others say ASR. I know that their was one option for the car: ESP. So what's ASR? Is one better than the other? Is it the same? I've heard that the ESP sucks for autocross. Is this true?
