GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Oil Leak - Level Always Low?
Apr 14, 2013
I just got a 337 a couple weeks ago and I noticed today that there is oil underneath the body of the car and around the turbo housing. The car runs fine, idles fine and seems to boost just fine and every time I check the oil level with the dipstick it reads the same every time and it doesn't leave oil behind whenever I park. I'm extremely confused and a bit worried.

So i just got my tranny rebuilt, along with a new clutch, fly wheel and also got the oil changed. I got the car back from the shop last thursday and it ran beautifully the whole weekend, went out to my car this morning to go to school and it just wouldnt start, it would turn over but not start. I checked the oil and it was really low and it shouldnt be since i jsut got it changed. So now i dont know what to do its prob leaking oil but there was none under my car when i checked.

I have a 20th 1.8t. It was running fine last week but all of the sudden i was only getting about 4-5 psi. I have check all over vwvortex for somewhat of an answer. I have no C.E.L.. I have checked for vacuum leaks with nothing coming up. I tried to check for boost leaks but it comes out of the dipstick hole. I have undone and re-installed the pancake pipe. The DV is holding pressure.

So the dealership told me that my Camshaft seal was leaking a bit, which is the shaft moon one right? Well if it was leaking wouldn't I notice oil spots on the ground? I have yet to see any spots on the ground. Is there another way to check?

I've never had a leak before in my anniversary and now all of a sudden I have a coolant leak. Once I start the car and run it for a short time and shut it off I lose a few ounces of coolant. I inspected under the hood and the coolant seems to be leaking onto my tranny. I am unsure where exactly it is coming from.

Some questions I have regarding he bad gas mileage my car is getting. Up until winter, my car (2005 mk4 gli) was getting 300-330 miles to the tank. I thought was reasonable, about 150 to a half tank. The setup is pretty normal, apr stage 1 tune (87,89,93,100 octane) with bolt ons (upgraded n75, DV, things like that), a cat back exhaust (unsure of brand), 90k miles was just passed last week. Timing will be done in the spring.
The car has no stutters upon acceleration and idle is staying pretty consistent about 900 rpms. I know there is an exhaust leak, at the flex pipe as I seafoamed the car this fall and discovered that. My question is, which down pipe to you suggest to be the best for the money? I've seen a bunch of different brands, weather it be 42dd, ecs, places of the such.
Would it be cheaper and more efficient to just get a turbo back or stick with the cat back and stay happy? Also, I'm assuming if the leak is in the flex pipe, that the down pipe needs replaced all together. The car DID have a check engine light, for the leak. Since winter the cel has gone away and the gas mileage dropped drastically. When I get a new down pipe or fix the exhaust leak, I also want to change the rear O2 sensor. I believe personally this maybe causing my gas mileage info.
Lastly I have a fuel filter to replace the oem one that's been in there. The same thing happened to me last winter and when summer came around, the gas mileage went up to normal 300-330. I drove to h2oi and was getting well over 30 mpg. Now I'm lucky to get 18mpg.

I'm having some issues with my brake fluid going low every 2-3 weeks. I get the 3 beeps on the brake light and the flashing. Sometimes it's constant and flashes 15+ times. Sometimes it comes and goes throughout the day or even the week. After I fill up my fluid, it's fine. Usually, have to fill up a pretty good amount though. Almost a whole small bottle sometimes.
Obviously I'm having a leak but I'm not sure where. I'm a noob when it comes to brakes. My brakes work fine, clutch feels fine, etc.. I read around and was told it could be the clutch slave cylinder leaking, but is this common on the O2M? I looked at the lines around the master cylinder and nothing seems to be leaking. Also, I'm not noticing any brake fluid on my shoes or in the cabin. Any tips on what to check, what's common? Are the leaks most likely going to be in the engine bay?

2003 Jetta Gli seems to have a very small coolant leak. The leak is small enough that I don't even notice a puddle on the ground the light on the dash told me it was low. It is the Vr6 motor. Also I don't know if this is the right forum for my car the title says 2004.5 Gli mine's an 03. If this is a big deal just let me know and I'll delete this post and go else where.

I've had the car about 3 months now. It runs fine, never overheats, but I keep having to add coolant (every 2 weeks or so), but I can't see a leak anywhere.
I searched and found one guy that said it could be a bad expansion tank cap, and another that said it could be a tiny leak that only leaks when driving.
Anyway, when replacing my axle, I noticed this:
If that's dried coolant, where would that be from?

02 GTI 1.8T ... Stage 2
Was running the car at about 4500 rpms in 5th gear. All of a sudden lost power and heard a loud whooshing/ hissing of air which sounded like it was coming from under the front passenger side of the car. Lost about 50% of power in all gears. What I screwed up and broke?

I sold the VR6 I once had and been out of the car scene for over 3 years to focus on my bike and roadracing. Well I recently ran into a good deal on a 04 Jetta GLI 1.8T with 75K and am debating making the deal final. I been driving it since yesterday and everything feels great, however, I noticed a small leak today. I touched the spot and it was a golden color and had no smell.

So i have a 2005 mkiv TR GLI. I had thought that the car leaks water at the front passenger side however it was a little drip, until last night. It rained heavily last night and I got in my car to find a good amount of water under my front passenger side mat, nowhere else. I left no windows open, and it looks to be running down between the side of the dash, and the inside of the door on the passenger side.

Have a small coolant leak. The level is dropping and I can smell it but I cant find it. The radiator was new at 100K miles and the heater core is bypassed. No evidence on or near the hoses, water pump or radiator. Getting ready to replace all the hoses because they are overdue but I would like to find the leak(s) first.

I have 2010 explorer. I have to add almost 200 ml of coolant in my reservoir every week. there is no sign of a leak from anywhere even at thermostat manifold as well. but one question, when the car is running for at least 1 hour, the coolant level at reservoir shall be around FULL HOT Level and when car cools down overnight, it should be at around FULL COLD LEVEL. is it right? if yes, then my level remains little more than FULL COLD when the car is hot and when it cools over night, level goes little down than FULL COLD. like this every week I have to add almost 200 ml of coolant. radiator CAP is okay and I replaced it few months back. no apparent sign of leak. any clue what can be reason?

Changing my oil today, been awhile since I had the hood open for an inspection a year maybe about 5 - 6K miles
It's been about 2 years since the prior owner had it in for a service, I recall they had it in right before we purchased it in August 2008
I live in Miami Beach where it's HOT
I noticed the inverter coolant level is no longer at full It's hard to see where it's at, actually
It's not below low, and it seems to be at least up to the bottom of the double seam that wraps around the tank, but I can't see where it levels off behind the seam
Should I be concerned enough to take it in to the dealer and pay them to hunt around until they find a small leak, or is it normal to lose a small amount of coolant over the course of a couple years
Should I just buy their high priced Toyota Super Long Life Coolant and top off the extra 1/8-1/4" or so until it's at FULL?

The "stop!" check level! alarm sounded as I was parked last evening...
Looked under car and a gigantic pool of coolant flooded under my car.
Where to look under the hood for loose or broken clamps or hoses that may be the culprit. Which hoses (color?) are the ones to check?

Just noticed my level is about an inch below the full mark, it was fine at the last oil change, no leaks that I can see....nothing on the ground.
