Noticed the other day when I was backing my GLI out of the garage a clunking or popping noise that sounds like it's coming from the drivers side. It only doesn't it once and only when I am backing out and turning at the same time like out of my garage or parking spot at work. My car has roughly 54 thousand miles on it and still the original suspension.
View 10 RepliesI have what sounds like a spring noise or a slight rub of a newly installed coilover set. The thing is it only happens when backing out of the garage and down the drive way in reverse, I'm not able to recreate it when moving forward. I've notice that it happens on all four. It is a very subtle sound/feel but it is there. I have about a one inch drop when backing out this when it occurs and yesterday I noticed it also happens when I go over the small lines that divide the driveway concrete slabs, but only when in reverse. Besides this the car rides and feels great with no other problems.
View 2 RepliesMy V8 had extensive suspension work done this week. All the front suspension bushings were replaced including the sway bar links. In addition, the air suspension- all four corners were replaced and the tie rods were also replaced.
The reason all the bushings were replaced was suspension noise and the fact that the car would wear the front tires unevenly even after new tires and alignment. The assumption was that the worn out bushings at 64k miles where the reason for the uneven wear of the front tires.
After all this work, I received the car yesterday and the car has more suspension noises than it had before all the work was done.....
When I drive over a speed bump, at slow speeds, I can hear loud squeak noises. Even driving the car out of my garage this morning, I could hear the groaning noises from the front suspension.
I will be taking the car back to the dealer after the holidays so they can check it out. Are these noises normal due to the new bushings settling or something..
I busted a spring and apparently a strut. The mechanic said I'd need to replace the front suspension, and offered to do it for 1000$ which I thought was very high. Now I am debating whether to simply get a cup kit or coil overs. I am leaning towards the cup kit to save money. Now I am curious what you guys think regarding the H&R cup kit and where I could get the best deal on them.
View 23 RepliesI have a 20th with 106k on it and I notice mostly my right front rubbing on hard turns. Suspension is totally stock other than a 28mm rear sway. Is it possible that's causing it or is my suspension just getting old? No spacer on the fronts.
View 9 RepliesThe front passenger side is making a quack-like noise when the suspension is compressed. it only happens after the suspension has had some time to warm up, but once it does, i am able to push down on the passenger side fender and hear it, in addition to hearing it over bumps, etc.
I just had the tie rod end replaced on that side, and that was well after noticing the noise (but not intended as a fix for the noise). when i press on the suspension myself, it seems the sound is coming from an area closer to the firewall than the strut tower. i'd say the sound is pretty audible inside the cabin.
What it could be? lca bushings? subframe?
I have had a bad squeak on the front passenger side suspension. It only happens while you are pulling into a driveway, going over a speed bump, or driving slow on a bumpy road. I brought my car to my mechanic and he thought it was the control arms that were shot. They were changed after forking over some cash. I noticed right away the handling was better due to the control arms which is said were shot. But... the squeak is still there, and has not become lower sounding at all. He said it might have something to do with the suspension but it is not worth it to change all the parts.

View 1 RepliesI just replaced the turbo to manifold gasket and bolts but the but bolt closest to the engine keeps backing out.. i cnt seem to find a tool that can tighten all the way..

get a crack in my windshield.
get a flat tire.
Have the tab that holds the passenger sun visor in place break off.
Have a new "clunking" noise in the front end.
I got 66,000 miles and I am getting a rattle/popping noise when driving on roads that are bumpy. I thought it might be a strut going bad but somebody told me it might be a Lower control arm rear bushing....
View 2 RepliesOk my 2002 337 has 87,600 miles on it and for quite a while now its been making a lot of font end noise, its most noticeable at 25-30 MPH, decelerating or holding a steady speed, it disappears when your accelerating hard, and at high speeds. But the noise is horrible, its like a buffeting
Its been serviced regularly, since the noise I've done, new front brake rotors, new pads, wheel bearings, inner and outer CV boots replaced, CV joint checked. My local mechanic who's done a lot of work for me isn't sure what to think, he said try rotating the tires because it may be tire noice on the road? Im running some generic tires, the brand on the tire says "sunny" but they appear to be a good performance tire, and handle well
Recently whenever I am backing out of the garage, the brakes pop when applied. I have only noticed this when backing.
View 1 RepliesWell, the Tig has developed brake squeal when we're backing out of the garage first thing in the morning. I notice it even more when it is humid outside (I live along the coast in Texas....when is it NOT humid outside?). Anyway, took the Tig in for the 10k mile checkup and oil change (I'm at 9500 miles right now), and I had a small list of things for the service tech to check out. The brakes was one of them. They came back and said that the squealing brakes is just a fact of life with VW. I told him, that was funny, that my 2003 Jetta never had a brake squeal, all the way up to 90k miles. He said that there was nothing they could do about it.
So, my question is.....does any TBS from VW that covers excessive brake squeal in the Tiguans? I thought for sure that they would at least offer to scuff up the pads or rotors, but he said it was normal because of the amount of dust generated by the pads. I also had the tech check oute that occasionally, in the first mile of driving the Tig, the brakes feel like I'm trying to stop a 2 ton truck old style, that is, they don't slow the Tig down until you're almost at the point of locking the wheels, and of course, they couldn't replicate the problem, so, no problem found.
Can't find a thing wrong with it, no codes. Runs great down the street but backing out of the garage from cold start, it barely runs.
View 8 RepliesSo on my 2003 F250 SCLB 4x4, I I was driving 70 or 80 miles to Huron in Ohio, to pick up a boat for a buddy with my truck. On the way up I heard a new clattering noise coming from the suspension or drive train, and we couldn't figure out what it was. After picking up the boat and coming back home without a problem, I looked under the truck and couldn't see any U-joints loose, But I saw that my right rear backing plate was disintegrated and gone. I took the truck to the shop and they said that the noise I'm hearing is the guts of the emergency brake pads and pins bouncing around in there when I drive and that my rear wheel could lock up at any time.
View 14 RepliesI'm hearing a clunk when I back out of my garage and cut the wheel to the right full stop. If I turn the wheel lock to lock I hear some clicking. Both of these sounds seem to emanate from the left front wheel area.
I have 26,000 miles on the car. Any conjecture as to what this could be?

View 4 RepliesWent to lower my front end today and after trying for 15 min the nut directly under the spring was frozen. i sprayed it with PB blaster let it sit for like 20 min, kept on spraying it during that time. tried adter that and still did not budge a mm. even tried with a flat head and a hammer trying loosen it. did not work. was wondering if there was any other way i can get it loose?
View 8 RepliesI just had new R32 rear lower control arm bushing installed but I still notice that the car rocks and bucks somewhat when I shift. I can control it I shift and accelerate slowly and deliberately but where's the fun in that?
I didn't replace the front lower control arm bushings but I'm starting to think I should have. Or maybe something else needs replacing??
Experiencing this bucking when shift? Maybe I just suck at shifting?
Both the front headlights do not turn on. I checked the fuses on the side panel and they all seem fine. I removed my battery to start another car. Do not know if that is the cause for killing the front head lights. Day time running lights are not on either. Lower fog lights work.
