Ok, Im trying to get my front licence plate holder off. I've looked in all the DIY forums and cant find what im looking for. My question is how do i get this thing off?? I've took the two screws that hold the thing to the bumper off, and its still soild as before i took the screws out. Is it held on by the rub strip?
View 24 RepliesAfter going through the car wash several times now in my 2010 RX 350, my front license plate has been bent in all different directions. Car wash guys say it's due to not having a full plate holder, where as 4 screws secure the plate vs. only the top 2 as we have. Any plate holder from another vehicle that I might adapt to overcome this?

View 8 RepliesWhat the heck caused this? Something melted through the license plate holder, then through the plastic of the bumper, down to the metal body. A week ago I had the timing belt, plugs and water pump replaced by my mechanic here in Orlando. I didn't notice anything when I picked it up but I didn't really do a visual inspection of the front of the car either since it was parked facing a fence when I picked it up. Since then it has been driven by my wife to work 3 times. While there, she parks against and facing her building with only a row of shrubs in front of her. And at home it's parked in our garage with about a distance of 3 feet from the washing machine. I asked at my repair shop and they said they had no idea what could have caused this other than a diesel truck, however there is no residue typical of a diesel exhaust.
View 19 RepliesMounting front license plate somewhere other than the "official" mounting location? I don't like the thought of putting holes in my front bumper. I can move it down a bit such that the holes are in the bumper just above the air opening. So, they would be less noticeable. This would block some of the airflow through the lower opening. But, unless I'm driving in 100+ deg temps, it probably won't matter.
I could also offset it to the right or left in the lower opening.
I plan to remove the front license holder from my car, fill the holes, and paint/clear coat/sand them. Any recommendation as to what to fill the holes with (I'm not going to use a plug.) Exactly what the bumper cover is made of, I can find the right material to bond to it.

I currently do not have any holes drilled in the front bumper (though I can see the places where they are supposed to go). I have the black plastic attachment. What is the best way to drill those holes? Can it be done if I don't have a drill (i.e., just with a screwdriver and force)? Is this something the dealer might do for free (I don't have a warranty, bought my car used)?

View 4 RepliesI have a 2010 RX450h and live in Minnesota where it is hard to hand wash my car. The darn car washes tend to catch the front of my license plate frame and bend it and the license. I have tried several different plate frames and none worked. Minnesota plates are now the thin, non-stamped plates so they are very flimsy.
I even tried putting a plastic plate behind the license to make it more rigid but that failed too.
yesterday I got the idea to move the plate bracket on the front all the way down so it gives it a much cleaner look and doesn't obstruct the grille. To do so test mount the bracket on the lowest position, then have someone hold it. Then you take a 1/8 drill bit and make the two new wholes then put everything back together.

View 14 RepliesSo I bought LED license plate lights, the same ones Track5tar has (who sent me the link to get them). I got em off the bay, and I put them in and they don't work! The Heatsink gets hot but the lights don't light up in both of them!

Removed the other feston put the new led and they won't turn on anymore..
Change them back. Put them upside down, up, sideways... Nothing
Check all three fuse boxes all ok
Every other light on, inside trunk on, side markers on...
Everything but the license plate lights.
Bulbs are fine, I turned the light switch from off to on (12 o'clock position) and they flicker for a split second. What can be wrong? I checked the harness on the rear hatch and it looks fine. Maybe the switch itself?
View 2 RepliesSo I took my GTI in for my 10k service and to have them fix the wastegate rattle and the subframe shifting. They fixed the wastegate by installing the clip but didn't have the shims in stock for the subframe so I need to go back anyway, but I'd really like to fix my license plate lights before then.
Is there a possibility the tech could have accidentally unplugged a cable for the lights when he was rotating the tires or messing with the wastegate, etc? Maybe a blown fuse? I'm running LEDs and I already tried putting the incandescent bulbs back in but they don't work either.
where to get it? I want to plug up my bumper holes and just put the plate on the tow hook.

How do I change my license plate bulbs in a 2010 ES350? I bought some 194 JDM Astar LEDs. I took off liner and changed backup bulbs but can't figure out how to change license plate bulbs.
