GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: GLI Sputters And Surges When Driving Over Bumps

I'm aware that this is a common issue for the MK4 and I'm looking for some closure on what the exact issue could be. Whenever I drive my car on a bumpier back road I feel like the car is sputtering and surging whenever I hit a bump and it's very noticeable with the exhaust on my car. Once on the highway the car lost all power for about 3 seconds and then it started working again. I think it might be the coil packs or the fuel pump but I don't want to buy things the car doesn't need. Where to start?

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Car Sputters Around Half Throttle / 10 PSI

Yesterday, I was taking off from a light and noticed that when I got around 10 PSI, the car kind of nosed over and sputtered. So I started to play around and discovered that no matter what gear, this always happened between 7-12 PSI of boost. Normal driving for me is shifting around 3k RPM, about half throttle. Sometimes when I shift, it pops. Not like a normal, chipped car pop but not quite loud enough to be a backfire.

I took my dad out in the car and got to 55 MPH, then held the throttle half way to keep boost around 10 PSI and it would start sputtering/bogging down erratically. Any more then 12, and the car is fine. Any less then 7 and the car is fine. He suggested a Throttle Position Sensor that has a dead spot in it.

Here's some thought from me:

Coils/Misfires - If it were a coil or misfiring, it would be all the time, not just what I described above, correct?

Boost Leak - At WOT, the car gets up and goes while holding steady boost.

Vac Leak - I've been told at idle, the car is supposed to have 19-21 in Hg of vacuum. It's at 20.

If you turn your speakers up, you can actually hear the exhaust gurgling in the video when I hit the spot I am talking about. There are no loud noises, so don't worry about maxing them. I had to.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 1993 - Sputters From Idle Up?

I've been fixing some boost leaks and changed "race" valve out to the stock "f" type...drove down road it's awesome put it back into 93 mode apr chip give it hell in 1st and 2nd then turn onto another road to repeat and when comes under boost it sputters...like a bad coil pack but wouldn't that mean it sputters from idle up?

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Surges At Low And Mid Pedal - ABS / Triangle And Front Brake Pad Lights On

I have just purchased a VW GTI 337 with 194k on the odometer. The car has a few issues, I have listed the issues by importance. The car came with a stage III ARP turbo kit installed. I just don't know if it's the stage III or stage III+. The car seems to be running okay but it seems like it's lacking the power. Meaning that I should be feeling more. Could it be that car seems to be in some sort of limp mode?

1. The car surges when I am at the low and mid pedal. But, not when I am wide open throttle. Seems like to me that the car is hesitating until I give it a lot of gas. I have changed spark plugs and coils have been replaced by VW dealer for free.

2. ABS light is on and stays on, does not blink just stays on.

3. ASR button will not work. When pressed in it will not light up or show that its activated.

4. Left brake pad or sensor is not plugged in because it's missing the connection. Looks like someone cut it off for some sort of reason.

5. A light that has a triangle with a circle surrounding it, is on. The light is in the cluster.

6. The front brake pads light is on, this is also in the cluster.

I just had a 2008 Jetta 2.5 as a loaner car and it made me realize how rough our GLI's ride over bumps on the road. This thing rode like a cadillac and it was a really pleasant change here in new york city where the roads are terrible.

It sounds real bad while actually driving... some weird ticking noise and It's not a rod or an exhaust leak cause I couldn't find one or any of the shops I brought it to. What this could be? GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Clutch Disengagement - Cannot Go Into Gear While Driving

So after replacing my shift forks in my 20th, installing a new clutchmasters fx100 clutch kit with a LWFW I've become a victim of the typical clutch disengagement issue.

In a nut shell car doesn't go into gear while the car is running. System is fully bled with no leaks and a brand new slave installed supplied by CM.

My understanding is the early FML code o2ms in the 20ths can not make use of the NLS shim kit and a stainless line is not a 100% fix.

Who's solved their disengagement issues and how?

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: AC Cuts Out While Driving In Stop And Go Traffic

so, I'm driving home the other day in stop and go 102 degree traffic, and my A/C cuts out. I thought maybe my compressor took a dump, because I've noticed a little noise from that side of the engine. Then I look down, and notice my water temp is like 240-250ish. As soon as traffic starts up again, temp goes down to normal, and A/C comes back.

I have a 2 mile commute to work, so it hasn't happened since then.

no DTC's, no rad fan. A/C fan works. Put 12V to fan - no worky. fuse block on top of battery not melted.

Obviously I need a fan, but I was wondering about something else. since this started, my car gets to normal operating temp (NOT), in literally under 2-3 minutes. I know its Texas and a billion million degrees, but I think that's too fast.

Green top coolant temp sensor, and metal impeller water pump already installed.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: RPMs Drop / Surges Over Bumps Only - CEL Flashes On

So I know there has been lots of posts on surging issues and how to troubleshoot. My truck is a 97 f150 4x4 xlt 4.6l v8. I have noticing surging and dropping in my RPMs lately. No CEL. I have kept a journal when I notice when it happens. I only have issues when I am driving around 40-50 mph and if I go over bumps/pot holes/rough spots in roads or when I'm braking over bumps/pot holes/rough spots, my truck surges/RPMs drop CEL flashes on and off only during these instances. Makes me think something could be loose or something causing this. It has stalled at times when having to brake fast (yellow light, etc.). Where to look first? 1997 F150 4x4 4.6 V8...

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Engine Failure While Driving - Cylinder 1 Misfire

I am having this failure in my engine that is making me crazy while I am driving. Yesterday i took my car to a shop to see what was it. my MAF was gone ( I replaced it ) and the failure still going on. The mechanic connected his computer in my car and we went for a ride. HE told me cylinder 1 misfire.

This is what i did.

-change spark-plugs position (failure still)
-change coilpack (failure still)

What can i do ?

-clean injectors
-check for any carbon in valves

Was driving when I heard a pop n my boost dropped. Normally run 17 psi but my boost gauge is now only reading it's pushing 4psi. There is no smoke coming out my exhaust or anything, when I had it scanned it read it was a bad pressure sensor in the inter cooler so I replaced the sensor cleared the code took it for a drive n the same thing happened...check engine light came back on n still running like crap.

My 6speed 05 mk4 gli is acting up!

The issue: when I'm driving (not every time) and letting the car coast to a stop after going about 30+mph lightly applying breaks, the car seems to die for a split second and come back to life. My radio turns off(restarts) headlights dim, heater fans die out. Rpms dip very low; but the car never totally dies or stalls.

I had my plugs changed recently thinking that was the the issue, but didn't work. Also my car is apr chipped. Another symptom is it idles pretty rough and lastly. Occasionally the car makes a funny high tuned sound that matches the rpm (ie revs up higher noise) ....

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2005 - RPMs Suddenly Dropped While Driving

About a week ago I noticed my RPMs suddenly dropped while I was driving. a couple days later after driving the highway for about 45 mins, averaging probably 80-90mph, I got into town and I stopped for a car to park. Then it just stalled, I didn't notice a kick back, it's like the car just shut itself off. It took probably 10 attempts to start again. About a mile down the road it did the same thing pulling up to a stop light. I sat through 2 light cycles before it started again.

Got to my destination was there for maybe an hour, when I left the car started fine. Drove for about another hour on back roads when the Rpms started dropping again and I would need to dump the clutch to get them to go back up. Then my screen started beeping telling me to STOP with and oil pressure alert. I ended up driving the car home dumping the clutch whenever the rpms would drop. Once I got home I had my boyfriend take it out and nothing... Of course... A couple days have gone by and it hasnt been as bad but it still drops every now and then, and today after driving home maybe 5 miles it stalled again...

I've plugged it in and my speed sensor is throwing codes, but I don't think that's the entire problem. Whenever my car acts up the EPC light comes on but no check engine light so far. 2005 Jetta GLI 1.8t.....

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Power Will Cut Out When Driving With A Consistent Throttle Input

Mark IV GTI. Neuspeed intake, chip, exhaust. The situation is...

When driving enthusiastically, harder, and sportingly, the car runs beautifully!

When driving normally, such as highway cruise or lower speeds with a consistent throttle input, the power will cut-out. Then the max boost pressure will be approximately 3 psi until the key is cycled. Then normal chipped operation resumes. Since it is difficult to drive hard all the time, this circumstance comes up often.

There is a new N75 recently installed. The situation does NOT set off the check engine light.

I have noticed according to the boost gauge readings, it tends to happen between 10 inHg to 0 psi. Above or below that, don't recall it happening.
