I've got an 04.5 pg gli and its mostly stock. I think its too quiet. I want to make it a bit louder. I've been looking and I'm not sure if I want to get a full exhaust system or what.

View 6 RepliesSome questions I have regarding he bad gas mileage my car is getting. Up until winter, my car (2005 mk4 gli) was getting 300-330 miles to the tank. I thought was reasonable, about 150 to a half tank. The setup is pretty normal, apr stage 1 tune (87,89,93,100 octane) with bolt ons (upgraded n75, DV, things like that), a cat back exhaust (unsure of brand), 90k miles was just passed last week. Timing will be done in the spring.
The car has no stutters upon acceleration and idle is staying pretty consistent about 900 rpms. I know there is an exhaust leak, at the flex pipe as I seafoamed the car this fall and discovered that. My question is, which down pipe to you suggest to be the best for the money? I've seen a bunch of different brands, weather it be 42dd, ecs, places of the such.
Would it be cheaper and more efficient to just get a turbo back or stick with the cat back and stay happy? Also, I'm assuming if the leak is in the flex pipe, that the down pipe needs replaced all together. The car DID have a check engine light, for the leak. Since winter the cel has gone away and the gas mileage dropped drastically. When I get a new down pipe or fix the exhaust leak, I also want to change the rear O2 sensor. I believe personally this maybe causing my gas mileage info.
Lastly I have a fuel filter to replace the oem one that's been in there. The same thing happened to me last winter and when summer came around, the gas mileage went up to normal 300-330. I drove to h2oi and was getting well over 30 mpg. Now I'm lucky to get 18mpg.
Lately I've noticed an exhaust smell coming into the car when idling. Could it be an gasket. Car doesn't sound different at all or anything.

View 1 RepliesI recently just put a set of b&g rs's on the car and now it appears that my 3'' exhaust is hitting and rattling/striking the bend that goes over the rear axle, I know I can raise the car and keep it from doing such but that kinda defeats the purpose of lowering the car, Just trying to see if there is something out there, like polyurethane hangers or something along those line that might alleviate the problem.
View 20 RepliesI have a 42 DD tb exhaust. And so far I've used a 3" exhaust clamp over the last hanger (after the muffler) which raised the exhaust all the way up against the heatshield, eliminating the rattle over the rear axle beam. But the exhaust was rattling against the heatshield.
So I bought 15 ft of exhaust wrap and wrapped the section that comes in contact with the heatshield. It worked a bit but it still rattles a little! I hate this rattling! How to get rid of the rattling? Should I just use more exhaust wrap?
Literally drove the car yesterday for three hours nothing was happening. Went to turn it on today when it idols a little constant white smoke comes out of the exhaust! Then when I'm driving and my turbo boost lets out a big cloud of smoke comes out. What could this be? Also just filled my car up with gas from empty today if that matters

View 9 RepliesSo I recently swapped out my cabin air filter, no other major changes or issues... but ever since I noticed that when I'm in neutral or at a stop, I can start to smell the faint odor of exhaust fumes. No CELs and it's not coming from the gas tank area like I know some have experienced - only from the vents. It's noticeable to me, but nothing unbearable by any means. I definitely never had this before - and my old filter was really dirty so not sure why a new one would give me any issues of have anything but BETTER air quality. I notice that I can curb the smell by pushing the circulate air button, effectively shutting off any outside air from coming in.

View 9 RepliesI was driving yesterday going up a hill in lower gear... i think 3rd... and had the RPM's up sort of high, I heard a noise that sounded like if you stuck a stick into a fan...smoke also came out of the exhaust when pressing the gas.. smoke has come out before but I got my oil changed figured it might have just been burning off some oil.... I was thinking the catalytic converter??

I have compression, fuel, and spark . I've checked oil and don't have any coolant in and nor did I have any oil in my coolant. When I try to start it it try's to start but won't turn over so .
View 12 RepliesDriving home from work, I was about 5 minutes from home, got to a light only to not be able to go into 1st. I popped it into 2nd and drove home like that pretty much. Car will let me get into reverse and all other gears.
I can put the shifter towards first but it doesn't fully go in and when I gave it gas it would let me start to creep and then grind a little and pop out.
