View 6 RepliesSo i have a 2004.5 gli 6spd that had two of the coils go bad and had a serious misfire with engine code and all car didnt want to even move. So i got this fixed made it about a mile down the road and it had a cylinder 3 misfire took it back had third coil replaced and all new plugs put it. Got the car back it ran fine until i hit about 4000 rpm under heavy boost it misfires but no flashing cel like before and the car still runs but cold start warmed up it misfires under boost
View 20 RepliesCheck engine light just came on. I scanned the car and the code PO704 came up.
"Clutch switch input circuit malfunction."
If I replace my clutch switch, will this solve the problem? I got the part number #1jo 927 189f i just want to make sure its that switch that's bad.
I got a 04 mk4 gli 1.8t and I got a po171 lean code and I know it could be a vacuum leak the maf sensor and other things. But when I clear the code it takes a couple days for it to come back on. But when I do clear it and start the car for the first time the car idles read bad almost sounds like miss fire. The when I pull out it hesitates just for a little than runs fine. Could this be a bad or dirty maf sensor? Like I said it takes a while for the cel to come back on.
View 1 RepliesI drive an 05 Gli n my car has been shutting off on me took it for a diagnostic n the code po322 came up engine speed sensor. So my question is. Is their a DIY on replacing the sensor I'm picking it up tomorrow. To be honest I don't even know where the sensor is located...
View 8 RepliesSo I have a 2004 Jetta gli 1.8turbo and my CEL came on last night from normal driving, after it came on it still drives the same. I had it scanned for codes and got the p0303 cylinder #3 misfire. wondering what could be the solution for this? I dont think its the coil pack because I had them changed at the dealer from the recall about 2 months ago (anyway to check?) Also I have 97,000 miles on my car and my last oil change I used 0w-40 oil. I know this is probably not the best oil to use at this mileage but I had an extra 5 quarts of them laying around so I decided to use it.
View 24 RepliesI have a quick question, when a timing chain breaks on a gli does it cause damage to the engine(like mess up the piston and valves) need to know ASAP.
View 1 Replies2004 Jetta GLI V6 24v 6 speed ... This started a few years ago, but it was happening in 3rd gear only -- therefore I avoided engine braking in 3rd gear all along. The noise was a pretty loud, noticeable grinding/spinning noise. 3rd gear while accelerating or maintaining gas worked and still works perfectly, smooth as can be.
Somewhat recently (6mo-1yr ago) all the other 5 gears started making this grinding noise, some more than others. 1st gear I don't really know because I don't engine brake in 1st. However, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th (barely noticeable but still there) all make the noise. I now of course avoid all engine braking, however even the transitional steps between gears can be heard sometimes ... unless I perfectly match the RPM etc, but I'm just trying to get to work and back here ...
The car is still quite drivable, but with a major obstacle (pain in the ass) and a new clutch is probably around the corner -- I have 107K on it now. However ... a few years ago when it had 26K on it .. it didn't need a new clutch yet 3rd was still making that noise.
So yesterday i was driving fine and all of the sudden the car started jolting like it was going to stall and the check engine light came on. I pulled over popped the hood to see if there was anything i could see and got back in and took off no problem and the light went off. I starting pushing it and accelerating it to see if it would come back on and it didnt. Today it started doing the same thing but this time the light stays on and every time i change gears it does that jolting like its going to stall.
Its a 2004 gli 6 speed gli 1.8t ....
I have Unitronics Stage 2, and a 3" downpipe... I keep getting a CEL P0420. I know its about the second o2 sensor, but I don't understand why I am getting the CEL with my chip? Could it be possible that when I put the downpipe back in i reversed the 2 sensors? Or are they the same...
View 5 RepliesEver since ive owned my 337 its always been a pain to keep my cel off but i got a pocket scanner and found that the code is coming up for a bad ECM !!! i called around and the cheapest i found was 1200.
View 8 RepliesI have an 04 GLI and keeps throwing a code for the 02 sensor, and after putting the car on the lift, and disconnecting the 02 sensor harness, a fine oil leaks out at the end of the connector and smells and looks like power steering fluid.
View 9 RepliesCar is throwing Converter below threshold code. I figured i would put in MagnaFlow High-Flow cat from my work but didnt know if that would work. The position of the stock 02 sensor is what baffles me.
It seems to me the factory design has the 02 sensor in between 2 chambers. Could I just install this Magnaflow cat and put the 02 sensor after the cat? Can get rid of this code after installing high-flow cat?
I have a 2002 GTI 337. I'm getting a P0601 code with the CEL light on.That code says "internal control module memory check sum error".
View 7 RepliesSo I recently (within the last month) replaced my DV for a Forge 007 and my stock air box for an EVOMS v-flow. My cel came on after the DV switch and was throwing the P0420 code at me. Then I swapped the intake and it has been good but I felt like I was running a bit rich and pulled my codes and it now has P0030 in addition to P0420. Why this is? I have 88K miles. Spoke to a mechanic and he says he thinks it is my cat dying. I'm a bit confused since I have a turbo back exhaust.
View 6 RepliesI was parking today and when i looked up my CEL was on. So I got the code pulled and it turns out I'm running lean with a base one. I think it was? the mechanic told me it was my o2 sensor but I'm not sure which one it may be whether it be before or after the cat?
View 5 RepliesI just changed both of the o2 sensors on my 337 like i was told and my car ran for about 80 miles until the engine light went back on again I brought it back in to get it scanned again and i got a P1174 code. What it is and some solutions.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2002 GTI 337, 1.8T and I get the faulty code P0420 insuf.cat flow?? ... it is a way arround it
View 10 RepliesI have heard that there is a traction control code u can have switched on when your car is started traction control is automatically off and u have to use the switch to turn it on!
View 5 RepliesMy Jetta has been throwing this code on and off for over a year now. It used to only come on when it was really cold with wet roads. Now the code will randomly come on in any weather. I usually just clear it but it's coming on to often now. I don't notice any performance issues or gas mileage problems.
Scan shows : Trouble Code - P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
I've been reading and apparently 1.8t engines only have One bank? I'm assuming this the the front 02 sensor throwing this but not sure?
I have an aftermarket exhaust/high flow cat. Apparently this can be caused by a high flow after market catalytic converter and one solution is to use a test pipe or spacer to move the rear O2 sensor further from the exhaust gas flow. But I'm not sure this is the issue since I think it's my front sensor throwing the code? That's not by the Cat is it? I just don't want to have the sensor replaced to have the code still come up.
