I've got a clicking in my car right now, it's not a constant noise, but only after I've been driving awhile without using my brakes. Slowly gets louder and louder. Goes away completely when I put my brakes on for a second and starts again when I let off of the brakes. Its speed related, so its quicker when I'm going faster.
View 1 RepliesI just replaced my front brake pads and rotors. Car had no squeaking sounds before this. When changing the right front pads and rotor, the set screw that holds the rotor in place snapped on me when I tried to remove it. I drilled out the remaining screw and inserted an easy out / screw extractor to try to remove the broken screw. Screw wouldn't turn/budge and eventually the easy out snapped in half while trying to turn it. Here is where I fear I made a little problem into an even bigger one; I tried to remove the broken easy out by banging the back end (smaller end) of it with a hammer and screwdriver, hoping it would pop out from the front of the hub. No success, and continued using a lot of force to try to remove it from the rear part of the hub. Eventually I noticed the hub area by the back of the easy out bent a little from me using force from the rear to remove the easy out. I stopped there, bent the hub section back to original shape (didn't bend too much to begin with) and sawzawed off the protruding end of the easy out from behind.
After driving a few times I started noticing the squeaking sound coming from the front right wheel, the sound sounds like is in tune/harmony with the wheel rotation. As soon I step on the brakes, the sound stops. I had a similar sounding problem with a rear wheel a long time ago and it ended up being that the bearing needed adjustment. I know the front bearings are pressed in so they can't be adjusted. I am thinking the force used to try to remove the broken easy out damaged something with the hub or bearing or maybe the axle nut.
Got an 04 GLI and I have the infamous hazard clicking sound. I replaced the hazard and it's still clicking, even worse than before. I'm going to spray some contact cleaner on the plug to see if that might fix it.

This pesky *clunk* sound coming from the driver side front-end. Usually on bumps, it sounds like a suspension deal... We took it into a shop, they "re-torqued" the suspension, and did the alignment. It was good for about a week, then it came back. Also, there's a creaking sound when turning, my guess is CV boots? Axles?

I just replaced rotors and pads on my 2007 Sonata. I got top of the line premium rotors and ceramic pads from Napa. Cleaned the oil off the rotors and gave them a light sanding before installing, made sure that the caliper bolts moved freely and the caliper pistons were not seized and also used new hardware kit (springs?) that came with the pads.
Everything seems to be ok, except for a clicking sound that occurs on hard breaking as the car is coming to a stop. I think its caused by the pads moving within its mounts (I did notice it was very easy to slide these pads into the mountings, more so than in previous pad replacements).
Reading from other posts I think this is still safe, but the clicking does bother me, should I use pad adhesive to stick the pads to the caliper?
I've been fighting with this noise for probably about 4 months now. I've replaced my strut mounts and strut bearings thinking they were shot, but this didn't even begin to stop the noise. I seem to be hearing it whenever the weight of the car is shifted. The best way to describe the noise is a tapping or high pitched thumping. It's definitely coming from the right corner of the car. Also, I have been hearing a grinding noise from that side when turning the wheel sharply to the left.
I was thinking this was because my brakes needed to be changed and the indicators were scrapping whenever I turned the wheels. I work full time and go to school, so I don't have a lot of time to figure out what's going on. That's why I'm posting here, so I can maybe get some insight before I have time to look at it this weekend. By the way, I have jacked the car up and shook the wheel to check the ball joint and wheel bearing. The wheel was very tight and I didn't feel any play at all.
I originally own an mk4 r32 but my friend owns a 20th.. He recently lowered his car about an inch or 1.5 of an inch he might have a finger gap.. He is on jam coilovers all the way down in the rear and about 20 threads left up front.. There is a nasty sound coming from the front driver side when he is turning or going straight.. he still didn't do an alignment idk if that matters.. and he also miscounted the threads so his driver side is about two threads higher but he fixed that now.. he also doesn't have camber plates up front does this matter?
View 3 RepliesI had my window down as I was backing the car into the garage today and heard a metallic clicking noise from the rear as I tapped on the brakes. The noise only happens when I am in reverse. When I put it in drive and move forward there is no clicking noise. As an AZ resident its rare for us to have the windows down so to be honest I cant really say how long this has been going on for. My car was just in for service for oil , tire balance, and alignment this saturday
View 7 RepliesSo my 2014 Elantra makes a tapping/ticking sound on cold starts which stays audible after the oil gets up to temp for at least until about 10 minutes of driving. I've heard this noise since I bought the car and of course kept searching all over the forums but everyone seems to have a different opinion as to what causes it and if it's normal or not. I finally decided to drop my car off at the dealer overnight so they could start in the morning and diagnose it. They listened, ran some tests on the engine and said everything was fine, nothing was damaged and that the sound is from the second fuel pump that is located over the engine.
They tested my fuel and said it's making the sound because I'm using a heavy fuel quality, then the tech told me I should run a fuel cleaner every other time I fill the car up. This seems excessive to me? I only fill my car up with Shell gas and avoid discount places which the tech agreed that Shell gas should be fine. I only have 22k miles on the car do I really need to be running cleaners every other tank of gas? Also wondering if using non ethanol gas would fix this problem. I did run 1 tank of non-ethanol but didn't notice a difference and since non-ethanol costs more than premium I went back to regular. I will try a fuel cleaner though?

Every time I press the brake pedal a buzzing sound can be heard. Every single time. Without fail. Moving or parked.
I just had the tranny rebuilt and it's possible something was broken or unplugged. I've done a search on google and can't find anything specific. I'm thinking something to do with ABS. Problem started a week ago when it came back from the rebuild.
I'll try to get a video and post. Was funny at first. Now it's annoying.
I started getting this weird sound after 10K miles service. I noticed it when i parked my car in the garage and the engine was off. I get this sound with or without turning the AC.

View 12 RepliesI've just started noticing a "clicking/ grinding/ creaking" when I turn my wheel. It makes the noise if I'm parked, or driving slowly. I can feel it in the steering wheel, and hear it in the cabin, but can't hear anything when I'm under the car.
It sounds like 'two pieces of rubber binding on each other', is the best I can describe it. I THINK its coming from the driver's side. I've considered: strut mounts shifting, CV joints, something in the steering column, Tie rods, power steering pump...
Everything is tight on the wheel when I try to move it by hand (on jacks), and no rips/ tears in any boots.

I just recently replaced my radiator and cold air intake. right after I did and I drove it, my car was idling high at 1.5 and the brakes feel like they are going out. I am kind of confused as to how this is even related.
View 2 RepliesRecently picked up a 05 GLI with the bbs wheels. Last night i was driving into my parking garage and noticed a clicking noise comming from the back left wheel.
I lifted the car on that side and spun the wheel but it didn't make the noise. But once i set it back down and rolled the car the click came back. So i'm guessing it has something to do with pressure being applied to the wheel.
Ever since I had Quickstruts installed on the front I have been getting a tapping sound going over the bumps and such. I think it happens when going over something combined with the steering input, such as pulling out of a parking lot onto the main road. If I just go over a bump with wheels straight, no sound.
Can't replicate the noise by rocking the front end by hand.
The sway links appear tight, no vertical movement. I have a reman rack and pinion since last year along with new outer tie rods. Sway bar bushings maybe?
I have a 2005 GLI tip-tronic. Bought used but the brakes are not that great. I know what the brakes should feel like since I did a swap for them on my GTI. I'm done brake pads /flush and cycled the abs pump to try an fix it. However on this car when I press the brakes I can here a humming/ buzzing noise. I'm assuming it the brake assist pump. Can this be eliminated or does it have to be replaced. The car stops just not all that great for it having the type of brakes it has.
