So my 20th randomly won't start. It's happens about once a week or so. Most of the time when it happens the car cranks but doesn't start. Every once in awhile when I turn the key nothing happens at all and I have to keep trying and it'll crank and turn on. I also have no way to check for codes

View 10 RepliesI just recently put a new battery in and I was wondering if thats why my car alarm goes off sometimes? I've also noticed about a week ago in my gauge cluster that the sign for the door being opened was on and then it turned off and then flicker on and off for about 30 sec ? So I think that has to do with the alarm but my question is how do I fix this problem???
View 8 RepliesSo recently my car alarm on my GLI has been going off randomly while I'm at work and school. The alarm goes off for about 5 minutes and then stops. Tonight it's going off constantly and I don't want to wake up my neighbors and I need to sleep tonight. It's going off every 5 minutes even after I disarm the car. I've been searching up why it's going off online and haven't had any luck finding the source. Also after a few minutes of unlocking it the car locks itself and then the alarm sounds.
View 8 Replies2 or 3 months ago i had to get my fuel pump changed due to my car dying randomly on the free way multiple times a week. The problem disappeared after changing the fuel pump, however it has started happening again recently. The car wont completely die but while going 60 mph or more, the car will suddenly lose all power and the gas pedal doesn't do anything for a couple seconds, then all power comes back and i have control of the car again. Why this is happening?

cars a bmp 20th with 181km on it (around 111000 miles i think lol)
Also, how could i tell if my car has an aftermarket LSD, cause the PO claimed to have put in a quaife LSD. also, how could i tell if its chipped other than scanning it?
So just for a little bit of a background, I have an Imola 20th with 165k miles on it lowered on B&G's, stage II+ unitronic w/ Franken turbo setup.
I've been running into some issues with the ride as of late, well, more than usual, and I can't seem to figure any of it out. First, the car kept overheating even when it wasn't warm outside after driving for only about 10-15mins. Took it to the shop, and they said that the fan & fan motor died on me and so they replaced that and the blower motor resistor, but then a month later I was back at the shop getting the fan replaced again. A month later, I was at another shop getting the fan switched, and not even two months later I was back at the original shop having the fan swapped out yet again because the previous one died. It's been a couple weeks now since the last fan being switched out and I'm starting to see some overheating issues yet again when the A/C isn't turned on and blasting. That's problem number 1.
Problem 2 would be all of the dash lights that randomly keep coming up; the traction control and ABS lights have been on for about three months now. Just last week the dash light for the airbag came on, and then today the light stays on for the door saying that it's open but the interior lights don't stay on like what's typical seen when the door is open. Also, every now and then when I start the car up the brake light will flash/beep a couple times then stay lit the whole time I'm driving around, but when I turn the car off then turn it back on again the brake light isn't lit...the airbag, ABS, traction, and door lights are still lit. I plugged a reader up to it, and no codes are showing and everything says it's checked out. Not to mention, the car has been idling real funny lately, usually sitting at 800rpm's then randomly dropped to around 400 to where the car almost dies off then it just shoots right back up.
Ive been having two issues with my GLI lately, last week while driving on the parkway my car just randomly lost acceleration, no lights came on but the gas peddle was unresponsive. I was able to restart it while coasting and thought nothing of it. Then it kept doing it. It was raining that night but ive never had an issue before. Other times it dies it is sunny out. The second issue is sometimes when I hit over 10lbs of boost the car will start to misfire and run like crap. No CEL's come on the dash but if we scan it with VAGCOM it says theres misfires happening, obviously. Already did a smoke test and there are no vacuum leaks.
View 19 RepliesMy Jetta has been throwing this code on and off for over a year now. It used to only come on when it was really cold with wet roads. Now the code will randomly come on in any weather. I usually just clear it but it's coming on to often now. I don't notice any performance issues or gas mileage problems.

I've been reading and apparently 1.8t engines only have One bank? I'm assuming this the the front 02 sensor throwing this but not sure?
I have an aftermarket exhaust/high flow cat. Apparently this can be caused by a high flow after market catalytic converter and one solution is to use a test pipe or spacer to move the rear O2 sensor further from the exhaust gas flow. But I'm not sure this is the issue since I think it's my front sensor throwing the code? That's not by the Cat is it? I just don't want to have the sensor replaced to have the code still come up.
I have an '02 337 GTI, Chipped but the previous owner don't know what chip is installed
Anyways, lately if I'm just cruising around the city in 5th, or on the highway, the engine will shut off completely. Electrical still on, battery light and all that jazz does not come on unless the RPMs go all the way down, then I have to actually start the car up again. Takes alot longer to crank afterwards.
Sometimes I will be driving and it happens, but I keep my foot down on the throttle, and just wait and engine will kick back in hard as hell!
After researching this for weeks, I think I've found that the pollen filter seal is worn and that's why I'm having water leaking onto my front passenger side floor. My car alarm has been going off randomly too. Every time it rains the floor is soaked. It's not the sunroof drain plugs. I already tried that. I need to fix this ASAP!!! How do I fix a worn pollen filter seal? I have a caulk gun ready!

View 2 RepliesI get EPC and ASR upon cold start from time to time. Usually EPC goes away if I restart in a couple of minutes. ASR goes away after a while and restart.
So after car warms up and restarted, everything seems fine.
The car is a 2004.5 GLI 1.8t. My car threw a CEL about two weeks ago. When i ran the codes it had one for the camshaft position sensor, one for the secondary air injection, and one for the camshaft position sensor. I cleared all the codes and the light came back on. The only code that came back was the camshaft position sensor P0340 i believe. I drove the car for a week and out of nowhere it just shut off on me while driving.
All the lights on my dashboard were flashing (traction control, battery light, engine light, etc.) I tried to jump it just to see if it would turn over and still nothing. I rolled it down a small hill and tryed to pop start it...still nothing. So I had it towed to my house and I replaced the cam position sensor AND the crankshaft position just to be safe. but now the car still won't start...
The engine is cranking and you can hear the pistons moving but it just can't get the juice to start. After failing to start it 3 times, i noticed a loud vacuum like noise coming from the engine when i turned the key off...but my car would do that every other morning when it actually started and didn't have the CEL, and then once it warmed up the sound would go away.
I have a perplexing problem and I'm at wits end trying to figure it out. I have an 03 GTI 1.8t 20th. The car has been running great until today when I replaced a few bolts with the front bumper and replaced a motor mount bolt on the passenger side mount. Everything was great until I did the work on it. I figured I had bumped the cam position sensor so I swapped it out for a new one and nothing still. I have verified I have spark and I definitely have fuel as it keeps drenching the spark plugs. I have cleaned the spark plugs and tried starting only for the car to violently sputter and misfire. No codes are being recorded and nothing else has been touched.
View 9 RepliesSo I just recently got a 2005 GLI and I have been taking care of all the maintenance first before I start modding it. But there is one thing that I can't seem to figure out and I have searched but can't find this exact problem anywhere. My problem is I will have to turn the key several times before it starts, it does turn over but will not start until about the 4th or 5th attempt. This will happen maybe once a day but sometimes it will be fine all day long. Also the ESP light comes on once the car starts but doesn't come on if the car starts normally. Now I have seen people saying ABS/speed sensor might be bad if the ESP light comes on but mine isn't always on. Just when I have trouble starting it and then it goes off once I turn the car off and back on.
For those that don't feel like reading:
- Car sometimes (once in a day or two) turns over 4,5 times before it starts
- ESP light comes on when it has trouble starting
And of course, here is a picture of the new-to-me ride .....
Car (04 GLI) was running completely fine for the past few months (since I bought it) and I get off work last night and it doesn't start. Lights/accessories turn on fine. Got the battery tested and it's fully charged. Alternator was tested 2 months ago and was perfect. I assume it's the ignition switch/starter. Had to get it towed. God that horrible noise when a lowered car is pulled onto a flatbed. The guy was nice and tried his hardest not to mess anything up. Will update once I find out the issues.
View 10 RepliesWeirdest thing happened this morning. I went to start the car and the horn was immediately on. I figured maybe the steering wheel was stuck. Anyways it went for a bit then while I was on the highway it came on and stayed on. People were looking while I'm going 60mph with the horn blasting. Anyways it went off on its own. I checked the fuse today and it is blown. I no longer have a horn. Why this happened? I will take the steering wheel off tomorrow to check the grounds.

I have had my car parked for about 2 1/2 months and I just started it this weekend and I've always noticed on our cars when we start them in the morning I think it's the secondary air pump that turns on, it sounds like a blow dryer.. It only stays on for about 10 seconds maybe. Cause when I started my car this weekend I didn't hear come on.
View 3 RepliesRevo stage 2 --1.8t ... For the past few days I have tried to figure this issue out I am having with my 337. The car takes 2 or 3 times to start from being cold. Once its started it has no issue it drives awesome, pulls hard no codes when vag com'd. Can start it up anytime with ease for the rest of the day. Tried doing to solve:
-I have pretty new coilpacks---FSI- they are ok
-Spark plugs are 3 months old --checked those
-Checked Battery and its all normal and no issue
-Cleaned the throttle body = No change
-Installed new CTS yesturday (green) < no change
-Cleaned the MaF = NO change in start up but car runs way smoother
-Put in new Filter= No major change
-Did the Crank sensor under a month ago (Bosch)
I have a few more things on my list to check :
1. Fuel pump relay
2. Fuel Pressure Reg
3. ECU relay/ check immobilizer
4. Fuel Pump
Ok, car won't start. fuel pump not priming. tested the fuse, no power coming to it, fuse is good. even used another fuse. my flex connection on my dp blew out, rusty had a leak there for a while. in any case patched it up McGyver style till a new dp arrives. I backed the car off the ramps and shut it off to clean up. when I went to test drive it fuel pump wasn't priming.
