What makes the brake light on the dash blink and beep after every stop? I've checked my e brake and made sure it was off so I know that cant be the issue
View 2 RepliesStop check coolant light came on dash tonight. Scanned the car no code. Did a search pointed towards coolant temp sensor. Car had it replaced by vw estimate of 30,000 miles ago. I tried to see if its green top sensor appears the very bottom ring is green but top is black maybe vw's is different than ecs? Planning to do water pump, belt kit from ecs anything else i should be looking at?

View 21 RepliesAfter a full complete stop or slow down to almost complete stop upon acceleration from that stop or slow down my dash brake light blinks and yells at me for the standard amount of time then goes away. It only does it upon acceleration its weird its almost instantaneous with me pressing the gas pedal. No squealing noise or anything else is coming from the rotors and everything feels normal its just starting to get annoying as hell.
About 6 months ago I replaced my pads and rotors with the drilled and slotted kit performance-cafe offers and had it professionally installed because, I'm lazy and it would have take me years to do it. This problem only started recently so I'm pretty sure its something else or something went bad. What I should check or have specifically looked at if I take it in?
My car is 2000 GTI 1.8T. When you put the key in ignition and turn it( not to start car, but get all the instrument lights to come on), after 15 seconds there is a "beep" noise and the oil light flashes.
Vag-Com doesn't pick up any faults, and when you start the car and start driving the light doesn't come on, and I am talking 600 miles 5 times in the last month!!!
Only when the key is in Ignition on position does it beep. Also recently the brake light has started coming on as you drive. It flashes and beeps only when you driving! Vag does not pick up this fault either...
Just installed e-codes in my car about a week or so ago.. When I did, the blinkers started to blink very fast. All the bulbs work fine and everything, and the hazards blink normally as well. Does this normally happen?
View 7 RepliesWas driving home yesterday from work and the dash light up saying the car was overheating. Was too dark last night to look at everything so this morning I checked all the fluids and everything was OK.
Drove around the block a few times and noticed when starting the car the thermostat said normal temperature (straight up) even though it was cold, then climbed into the redzone, dropped to zero, then shot back up into the red. the upper radiator hose is hot so fluid is flowing.
Thoughts are bad water pump, thermostat, or blown head gasket after going though my repair book. Not sure how to check any of these. Also ran VAG and nothing came up.
Car was running fine on friday when I left for detroit, it sat in my driveway all weekend, but on the way to work this morning I get a warning light to STOP and my temp gauge is right below 260. It took about 10 miles for the light to come on and the car does NOT overheat while idling. The car is only at 52k and I have not replaced the water pump/timing belt yet.
View 13 RepliesI have a very annoying "check brake light" warning popping up in my dash with a small beep every time I brake. It seems that some of the LEDs are sometimes not illuminated but in a sort of varying configuration. Is this possibly a connector issue? (where are the wires coming from?)
Do I need to replace the LED-bar as a whole or can it be mended in subunits?
When I have to work on the light, do I REALLY have to remove the entire backseat and hatshelf (as WillemBal did to get rid of a fly that was stuck there!) or are there less invasive procedures that can be performed?
Have a jazz blue chipped tuned with giac.. It does this random times.. When I come to a red light on idle the rpms go up and down just a bet but never stalls. The car vibrates and the engine shakes a bit. Engine is stable when car is on and off. Idk if its motor mounts or what?

Well today I was driving and the Malfunction Indicator Light on the dash came on and started blinking. When I stepped on the accelerator, the car felt like it had 1/4 the power and began shaking. The car idles kind of weakly, and feels like it has no power when you step on the gas. Also, when you step on the gas the car will shake. The strength of the shaking depends on how hard I press on the throttle, more throttle = more shaking. There is no shaking when it idles or when I have it cruising, only when accelerating.
My brake pad sensor light came on today. How long do I have until they start to ruin the rotors?

View 8 RepliesSo a few days ago the warning light that my break pads are getting low came on. My friend needs a ride this weekend that would bring the round trip to about 300 miles. How soon are my break pads on my 20th going to be shot? I don't know if this is an early warning to let you plan to get break pads in the near future, or if it's the same thing as seeing the gas light(Oh crap, gotta head to the gas station and fix this NOW).
View 7 RepliesI have an '05 GLI @ 45,000/mi. The sensor light came on for my brake pads about a week ago. So obviously I need new brake pads (front & rear? not sure...I know the sensor is only for the front). But I was also wondering if I need to replace the rotors.
I understand there is a measurement for the OEM rotors to tell when they need to be replaced. There is a little lip on the them, more so on the front than back. And they feel slightly grooved.
Wifes car began to idle very rough and check engine light began to blink and beep, I took it to the mechanic today and he informed me that my control module was no good and it was a $400 dollar piece. I said go ahead get it done, cuz she needs the car and i couldn't afford to not have it done immediately. Question I have is does this small-ass piece really go for that much on average and what control module is it?
View 4 Replies1996 Aero with electronic AWD. This is my fourth Aero, the greatest van ever built! This one has the electronic all wheel drive and I loved it last winter. I get the warning light on the dash at startup to blink twice and then every 30 seconds or so it blinks twice again. This continues until I shut the van down and restart. Sometimes I do this restart two or three times to get the warning light to stop blinking twice. What does this "two blinking" sequence mean? And why does it not happen every time instead of the random happening?
View 3 RepliesHow the rear, high center mounted brake light (ie "3rd brake light") intermittently lights individual bulbs, but never all at once. It was also causing an annoying "Check Brake Lights" warning plus beep on the dash (on every brake). Till I get it sorted I simply disconnected the 3rd brake light which completely turned it off and just gave me one warning/beep (instead of lots of them).
I spoke to VW about it yesterday and wasnt impressed by their attitude, so last night I tried plugging it back in to see if it was still the same now that my battery should be topped up due to change of house and longer trips. To my surprise at first it worked perfectly, all bulbs lit up.
However the more I tested, the less lights lit up. It was quite strange, they would "dance" on an off right in front of me. Wiggling the wiring had a small effect, but it didnt seem to be a wiring issue. So I plugged it out and left it was it was (disabled). However to my annoyance on my trip in today, I start getting repeated "Check Brake Light" warnings beeps (remember, its disconnected so it should do it once only) and even more irritating every time the warning came up on the dash the front left headlamp would flash on and off once! What the hell is going on with the lighting system!
I have a 2002 GTI 337 that I just bought. Got it cheap with minor issues. One of the issues is that the radio and the Dash clock/Odometer will not shut off when the car is off. I took it to VW and they told me that the Driver, Passenger, and Hood latch need replaced (vehicle isn't going into sleep mode). Its not that I do not believe them...
View 4 Repliesso, I'm driving home the other day in stop and go 102 degree traffic, and my A/C cuts out. I thought maybe my compressor took a dump, because I've noticed a little noise from that side of the engine. Then I look down, and notice my water temp is like 240-250ish. As soon as traffic starts up again, temp goes down to normal, and A/C comes back.
I have a 2 mile commute to work, so it hasn't happened since then.
no DTC's, no rad fan. A/C fan works. Put 12V to fan - no worky. fuse block on top of battery not melted.
Obviously I need a fan, but I was wondering about something else. since this started, my car gets to normal operating temp (NOT), in literally under 2-3 minutes. I know its Texas and a billion million degrees, but I think that's too fast.
Green top coolant temp sensor, and metal impeller water pump already installed.
