So was driving my VW.. AC Was working fine. Then all of sudden nothing but hot air goes through the vents. So.. my question is. What could have caused this? I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to cars and their parts..

My key remote stopped working and it will not unlock/lock, open trunk, or panic button for a while, so ill just lock the door putting the key in the door and turning twice. Now i do the same thing to lock the doors, but now it honk like it used to, until i open and close the driver rear door?

View 2 Replies2005 Jetta Gli 1.8t. It decided to do some funky things on me today. I has been running perfectly fine up until I went out for dinner.
When I came back to start her up. Everything worked except for: Radio, Low Beams (both) Fogs, windshield wipers/fluid, rear defrost button, turn signals (but hazards worked fine) and the fan for my heater.
What was working, oddly enough are the amber lights, tails and brake lights, all other lights including the high beam, but ONLY in the position when the stalk is pulled toward the driver. (Have to hold it to keep the high beams on).
It's not the battery because my car wouldn't have started at all if that was the case. It's not the alternator because I disconnected my battery and the car ran just fine and never died. I checked all the fuses of the things that went out but nothing seemed out of the ordinary and all of them seemed just fine.
Where to look next or what to do. I have no check engine lights, or any lights for that matter so I have nothing to scan.
The center AC vent has started to peel. Any tricks to repainting it or good place to get the part to replace it? Any good tips for it's removal before I just dive in?
View 15 RepliesSo I recently swapped out my cabin air filter, no other major changes or issues... but ever since I noticed that when I'm in neutral or at a stop, I can start to smell the faint odor of exhaust fumes. No CELs and it's not coming from the gas tank area like I know some have experienced - only from the vents. It's noticeable to me, but nothing unbearable by any means. I definitely never had this before - and my old filter was really dirty so not sure why a new one would give me any issues of have anything but BETTER air quality. I notice that I can curb the smell by pushing the circulate air button, effectively shutting off any outside air from coming in.
View 4 RepliesSometimes my battery light will come on. It started happening about a few weeks ago. At the time i was on the parkway so i couldn't pull over and it was flashing a few times then stopped. It started doing it more often, now it did it around town so i would slow down and i could hear the belt squealing. It just happened again and this time my car sorta lost power but only for a second. Now my question is, how would i check if its
a) alternator,
b) the belt or
c) the tensioner?
Or, I won't know til i start messing with it?
So my car started to misfire when under boost so I had the car scanned the first time and came up with codes P0302, P0303, and P0304 which are all for misfires. I replaced the coil packs not even a year ago and the car drove fine as long as I wasn't in boost. My rpms would fluctuate a little bit but not much. I changed the spark plugs and it seemed to work a little bit but it would still misfire under higher boost. The one thing I noticed was my vacuum sits at around 15-17 in when it used to be around 19-20. I've cleaned and disconnected the MAF and the idle didn't improved. I also cleaned the MAP sensor and AIT and the CTS is new. I've done a pressure test and I found some leaks and fixed them but still no luck. Then yesterday my car started running really rough at idle and the cel would flash while driving then stay solid while stopped. Got the car scanned today and got codes P0300, P0301, P0303, and P0304.
View 18 RepliesWhen stopped at lights I start to smell burning oil coming from the vents when I have the heat on. It only happens every now and then and only when you are stopped at a light. I tried letting the engine idle after driving once and I can't smell it when i open the hood. I do synthetic oil changes every 5,000 since the car was new. I don't know what it could be? My last oil change was about 2,000 miles ago so I can't see it being burn off from the last change still.
View 4 RepliesI was driving home and noticed that it seemed harder to shove the gear shift into 1st gear. I stopped on the way home and discovered that I couldn't put the car into reverse, when I tried, and then started to drop the clutch and go in reverse, it was as if the car was locked into both reverse and a forward gear, the engine would bog and the car wouldn't budge.
I popped the hood and checked the shift rods and they looked OK, no obstructions or broken parts. I played with the gears for a bit and finally reverse gear suddenly started working again, but now 1st and 2nd gear are gone! it does not feel as if it's engaging the gears at all, the lever moves free. No different than having it in neutral. 3rd gear and above all still work OK, so I had to use 3rd gear to get the car moving.
The middle heating vents on my 1999 Subaru Legacy sedan stopped working recently. The other vents (by the window, defroster and floor) work fine. What might be wrong and how to fix it? The car has nearly 170K miles and I need to keep it running.

View 6 RepliesSo the car will only start to raise in temp over the mid (which is about 190f not sure exactly) when the car is at a stoplight for a good amount of time or the car is at idol, really whenever the car has no air being sucked in through the front it really only goes over temp slightly at a stop because the fans are not cooling it
Also it has been 80 degrees plus here for awhile. It never over heats entirely but I am looking for possibly causes here is a list below of what I think it could be :
Fuses
Fan relay
Thermostat
Or fan control module
So my girlfriend drives my car to work and today she called me and said that the instrument panel isn't working. No gas gauge, odometer, tach, or anything!
View 2 RepliesI am getting really irritated with my ac control lights not working. my friend with a gti has the same issue. but we have both changed out the whole piece from a working car and still no lights. i checked my fuses and nothing blown missing 2 fuses (pic card shows KEYS) my lights have been out for over 2 years. some days I don't care but now its really on my last nerve. The last time i remembered they didn't work then one day they did another day.
View 5 RepliesToday I was driving getting on the highway while having the clutch engaged I went to shift into third and it was very hard to get it into gear. For the rest of the day today this was a problem and especially at higher rpm. I am pretty sure my clutch is going. I asked around local and they say it is the clutch. Do I need to also replace my flywheel or can I just use my old one?
