Recently picked up a 05 GLI with the bbs wheels. Last night i was driving into my parking garage and noticed a clicking noise comming from the back left wheel.
I lifted the car on that side and spun the wheel but it didn't make the noise. But once i set it back down and rolled the car the click came back. So i'm guessing it has something to do with pressure being applied to the wheel.
is it just a 337 thing? but, the rear wheel on the left is poked out farther than the wheel on the right. I didn't measure it just yet but it looks as it's almost a 5mm difference. I didn't realize it until today when an old friend was inspecting my car.
View 11 RepliesI've just started noticing a "clicking/ grinding/ creaking" when I turn my wheel. It makes the noise if I'm parked, or driving slowly. I can feel it in the steering wheel, and hear it in the cabin, but can't hear anything when I'm under the car.
It sounds like 'two pieces of rubber binding on each other', is the best I can describe it. I THINK its coming from the driver's side. I've considered: strut mounts shifting, CV joints, something in the steering column, Tie rods, power steering pump...
Everything is tight on the wheel when I try to move it by hand (on jacks), and no rips/ tears in any boots.
I get a ticking niose when i crank the wheel all the way to the left or right and reverse .. What it could be (its fine when I drive forward)....

However when i brake the noise goes away for the entire time im braking. What could be causing this noise?

View 24 RepliesI have an intermittent problem with vibrations coming from the front left wheel area. It vibrates my whole car to the point where I need to slow down to 30mph speeds. It usually occurs during extended periods of driving, but not always. When I am on the interstate driving and it happens, it works when I pull off to the shoulder and turn my wheel all the way to each direction multiple times. Is this an axle related problem? What other things should I look for?
One more thing to add. When this problem first started happening, I noticed that it would only happen when I was in gear and giving it gas. It would stop vibrating when I was coasting in neutral.
My 20th just recently started making clunking noises around the front left wheel area. It sounds like when I let off the gas it sounds like something is shifting forward... I don't think it is the engine mounts I'm wondering if its something with the suspension. The suspension is the stock 20th suspension.
View 4 RepliesWhen I do a cold start-up and after about 5-10 seconds after start, I get this clicking noise coming from the rear passenger side. Almost sounds like something maybe gas cap is trying to lock or something. But when I hear this noise and even unlock the fuel cap I still get the same noise. I cant figure it out for the life of me. I even unlock and open the rear hatch... same noise. And after about 20 seconds of this noise then all of a sudden it goes away.

I am thinking it could be transmission, but have read it could be a few thing, From the brake pads to CV joint to trow out bearing, Axles, Lightened flywheel, Motor mounts, etc. But i am unsure where to start, Its and O2M 6spd tranny in my 20th, with lsd installed, lightened flywheel, VFmotormounts...
So I had the cv joints and boots replaced last year. When I turn at low speeds I get a clicking and some road noise, when I turn at higher speeds I get a lot of road noise. I feel like its a combination of strut mounts and wheel bearings?

View 12 RepliesI just rolled 100k in the 337. Time to do some refreshing. 2 noticeable issues (non-motor related anyway )
1 - sometimes when turning hard left to right, or vice versa, I hear and feel a "cluck", almost like the something is shifting.
2 - I've got a creak from the front (and I think maybe the back too) when I get out of the car. Sometimes I hear it when I slowly go over a bump as well.
3- I think my rear shocks are on the way out.
In the last 15k I replaced both the inner and outer tie rods. That's all I've done to the suspension.
When driving my car, my oem shifter makes a clicking noise going into gear. is there a way to get it to stop, other than getting a short throw?
Looking for 2004 gli all weather floor mats? or ones that would fit?

My 04 gli makes a rubbing noise when accelerating thru hard left turns.. but weird enough i can take the same turn at the same speed in neutral and have no noise at all. I changed both front wheel bearings and cant seem to find the answer. I brought it to vw and they checked the whole suspension struts springs cv's tie rods ect. and they all checked out good they said. the car used to have a exhaust and i just recently put it back to stock, could the exhaust make the noise perhaps?
View 1 RepliesI've been hearing a "clunk" like noise here & there when I turn the wheel on my GLI all the way to one side then turning it back. I've heard it when making u-turns and when reversing. It seems to be coming from somewhere on the bottom of the drivers side and it doesn't happen all the time. I've brought it to the shop twice but they can't seem to figure out what the problem is & the car won't make the noise whenever they seem to test drive it. What this might be?

I changed it on monday and a week later the same supercharger noise occurs when moving the steering wheel, My queastion would be what can the problem be and how i go about in finding the problem on my 20th ae 1.8t.
View 5 RepliesTwice I have made this happen. It is a right turn at about 5 mph, there is bump from blacktop to pavers. I have my foot slightly on brake during turn. Then the front left wheel emits this rapid clicking noise until I nearly come to a stop.
View 3 RepliesRecently my clutch started acting strange, the pedal felt softer and eventually after I pressed it in it stayed on the floor. After pumping it, everything went back to normal. Next day, still same thing, no pressure in the clutch pedal. I checked the brake fluid and it's full. There is also no sign of any leak. Took the car to the mechanic, he recommended changing the master cylinder. I changed it but still nothing. I tried bleeding the slave but every time I bleed it, it has air in it. So I'm stuck and don't know what should I do next. I think it might be my slave cylinder but I don't have a place or tools to do it myself. I'm pretty sure the entire tranny needs to be pulled out to remove the cylinder. I also read that most people change the clutch when they replace the slave.
