GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2004 To 2005 Transmission Swapping?

I was wondering if I could take the automatic transmission from a 2004 Jetta 1.8 turbo gas and put it in my 2005 automatic 1.8 turbo gas GLI. Everything about the cars seems the same to me except some of the cosmetics on my GLI.

Alright so basically i lost 1 and 2nd gear and i want to replace the transmission since this one already has 150k on it. The hard part is finding a used one because of the six speed! What models can i swap transmissions from? Like i heard i could use a 2003 Audi TT six speed transmission! What I can use to swap out my transmission or do i have to just look for a used one specifically for a 20th?

My Question is, I have a 20th and I was wondering how to unclip the ring that's at the base of the shifter to get to the shift knob and boot. I'm sure its really easy but, I've been messing around with it and it seems pretty solid. I just don't want to break any tabs or anything. Is there a trick to getting this off without breaking the clips on the ring?
My 2 question is, How easy is it to swap out the shift boot? Will a universal shift boot with the elastic bottom work? I'm just wondering cause I have a momo setup that I'd like to swap over.

So there's been a noise coming from what seems like the transmission for some time now.Here is how it began...One day I was reversing and noticed this clatter/grinding/vibrating noise coming from underneath my car. It only happened in reverse.However, now it's happening in all gears but not when accelerating, ONLY on deceleration in gear.
There's no clutch slipping, no noticeable loss in power, etc. Just the noise.I don't want to start replacing things left and right hoping it will fix it so throw-out bearing, trans mount, flywheel, etc?
2004.5 GLI 1.8T O2M. Transmission hasn't been touched from what I know of (bought the car w/ 37k, now has 77K),

I'm looking to get a GLI, but don't know which year to get. From what i've seen, the 2004.5 models are among the nicest. But what is the difference between each of the years? (2004, 2004.5, 2005), and what do you recommend to purchase?

my 20th feels a bit off when im shifting. First to second can feel very rough (just not smooth at all but it does shift easily but takes more effort for a smooth shift. second to third is also a bit off but not as much. all other gears shift normal and smooth.

I have a 2005 Jetta I purchased on the auction which has been stripped of wheels calapers & radio. It WONT do anything. The lights wont even come on with hot battery.

One day i was driving my pedal went flat to the floor ,then i noticed my brake fluid was low so then i tried adding more fluid and bleeding it n pumping the clutch i got pressure back, but now i hear chatter in the tranny and it wasn't doing that till after I bleed it. It will go into gear with the car off but as soon as the car starts in wont at all.

Well, driving down the road just like any other day. I go from 1st to 2nd gear. It feels like I missed a shift, no big deal decide to put it in 3rd. Missed 3rd gear...... weird, no big deal through it in 4th and was on my way. Got to a red light, no 1st or 2nd gear. Where 1st and 2nd gear are, it feels like there is nothing there when i tried to shift into gear. If I go into 3rd gear its now 1st gear, 4th gear is 2nd gear.Had a mechanic look at my car, and the linkage and clutch are fine. He feels that something minor broke inside the transmission.
A) What do you think might be broken?
B) How could this happen?
Driving my car like a baby, I am never hard on my clutch. No pre-warning, no bad sounds, and I have never had an issue with my transmission before. I am hoping I do not have to pull my transmission out but it looks like I may not have a choice...

I've never had a leak before in my anniversary and now all of a sudden I have a coolant leak. Once I start the car and run it for a short time and shut it off I lose a few ounces of coolant. I inspected under the hood and the coolant seems to be leaking onto my tranny. I am unsure where exactly it is coming from.

Today I was driving getting on the highway while having the clutch engaged I went to shift into third and it was very hard to get it into gear. For the rest of the day today this was a problem and especially at higher rpm. I am pretty sure my clutch is going. I asked around local and they say it is the clutch. Do I need to also replace my flywheel or can I just use my old one?

I have a 05 GLI, traction and ABS light are on. Previous owner said they replaced the front left sensor in question but the light still comes on. Is this a wiring issue or is there something I am missing? I inspected the sensor and it seems to be good.

So recently my car alarm on my GLI has been going off randomly while I'm at work and school. The alarm goes off for about 5 minutes and then stops. Tonight it's going off constantly and I don't want to wake up my neighbors and I need to sleep tonight. It's going off every 5 minutes even after I disarm the car. I've been searching up why it's going off online and haven't had any luck finding the source. Also after a few minutes of unlocking it the car locks itself and then the alarm sounds.

So i have a 2005 jetta gli that i just got a few months ago. it never came up just till recently with hurricane sandy but somewhere on the passengers side water is running into the vehicle from the a pillar past the glove box and making a pond out of the entire passengers side of the car. I've only found a few posts on here of it happening but with no good explanations of why or how to repair/fix it. all of the rubber looks good no debris or dirt is blocking anything from flowing.

So I have a 2005 gli here is what's going on. The ac compressor is not engaging, the reticulation button is not lighting up when pressed in, the cruise control is not coming on and the daytime running lights are not turning off when the hand brake is engaged. And the radiator cooling fans to not spin when the engine is first started. I have checked all the fuses inside and over the battery. I have checked the relays ( they click when hooked up to power). I'm suspecting a bad fan control module. I've done some searching and that's the only thing I have found that would control the fans and the ac.

Two weeks ago had to replace my ECU due to failing. Got a new one, reflashed my Uni software and the only code left after the ECU was replaced was the Air Intake Temp Sensor. That was 12 days ago. Today, get home. Car was running smooth all day. No issues. Go out and start the car and my idle is at 1300. (Normally 750) I have zero throttle response. I've unhooked the battery twice to do a reset, unplugged the throttle body sensor and plugged back in, still got nothing.

I heard that smlw flywheel on the 6 speed trannys make a lot of chatter noise, I was cool with that so I put one in with a satch clutch kit and now it sounds like a marble or something is banging around inside!!!

Just did my clutch yesterday and now I'm having some linkage issues. 1-4 shifts smooth, but 5th is a little tight and I can't get into 6th. I feel like the shift linkages may be a little messed up.

My clutch was done about a year ago and the car now has a sort of "chattering" sound while the car is out of gear. Once you press the clutch down though the sound goes away. Is this just a by product of being converted from a Dual Mass Flywheel to a single, or is this a bearing issue or something otherwise that can be resolved?
