I have a stock 04 GLI, I want to get rid of wheel-fender gap. Whats the most easy and basic way to do this? Can I do just springs? If so which ones?
View 14 RepliesOk, got in a fender bender a few weeks ago. The plastic strips (with the Torx screws) holding the headlight steady, broke from the impact. The headlight itself is fine, no glass was broken, headlight still works, but without those plastic things, it will not, of course, stay still. My question is...would I need to buy a whole new headlight just because the plastic tabs are broken?
View 5 RepliesI have an 04 GLI with around 130,000 miles. I have developed a squeaking noise coming from the front end of the car. I cant really tell if its the right or left side. I can tell you i only hear it when driving under 30 mph and it seems to happen more often when i slightly turn the wheel to the right. Also when i accelerate from a stop or let off the clutch pedal into 2nd or 3rd. I wonder if it could be the wheel bearings going bad? I replaced both front and rear control arm bushings back in December just for some background. FYI, by squeaking i mean the sound of metal to metal. Its not a squeal or hiss, or anything to do with a boost leak. When you hear it, it sounds like a squeak, squeak, squeak kinda pattern but comes and goes depending on speed and the turning of the steering wheel.
View 2 RepliesI got 66,000 miles and I am getting a rattle/popping noise when driving on roads that are bumpy. I thought it might be a strut going bad but somebody told me it might be a Lower control arm rear bushing....
View 2 Repliesis it just a 337 thing? but, the rear wheel on the left is poked out farther than the wheel on the right. I didn't measure it just yet but it looks as it's almost a 5mm difference. I didn't realize it until today when an old friend was inspecting my car.
View 11 RepliesUnder acceleration between 65-80 on the highway I get a serious vibration in my steering wheel. I can feel it in the floor of the car too. When I let off the throttle it goes away. I have new tires, wheels, and new axles too. I thought it was the inner cv's but i was wrong. I was thinking possibly motor mounts, but I am not 100% sure. Specs 2004 Jetta GLI, ecs 10mm spacers in the front, coilovers dropped 2 inches, otherwise everything else is stock in the bushing mount department.
View 11 RepliesI am currently running 8mm ECS spacers in the front and 17.5mm ECS spacers in the rear. My Summer set up is still stock BBS RC's, but my winter wheels are Lenso's.
Last winter was my first winter running with the Lenso's and had no issues. This past weekend I swapped out the BBS's for the Lenso's, and now I am feeling vibration above 60MPH. I felt no vibration with the BBS's. I just took them in to get balanced (maybe a weight fell off-idk), and they were within 1/4 of 100% balanced. They then thought it may be the spacers I'm running so they cleaned them up, but said that it didn't work.
My alignment is also spot on-so that's not an issue either. I am at a loss as to what would make me feel that vibration after just changing out the wheels.
My 1.8t gli is giving me this issue, when braking (specially hard) my steering wheel shakes side to side, my rotors got changed less than 20,000 miles ago (all of them) and they seem fine right now.
Could this be my Tie Rod ends? The car has 110,000 miles on it, and i know some bushings if not all need to be changed, which I am gonna be installing when i put on the Raxles i just got.
My steering wheel controls stopped working over night (horn also). When i went out this morning i was not able to get into the car using my key fob.
I hooked up my vag-com and got 2 codes.
00955 - Key 1
09-10 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed - Intermittent
00956 - Key 2
09-00 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed
My key is working again, but my horn and volume controls...ext do not work.
I have a 05 gli w/ 65k miles. I got new plugs gaped correctly and new coils. When I'm idling at 7-800rpm my steering wheel shakes a little and when I flip on the ac it's even more noticeable. So much the rear view mirror shakes just a tad. What do yall think it could be cause it's not that bad but I'm anal about my cars and I want it to be perfect.

View 4 RepliesJust threw some steelies on my car for winter mode. I was told they were in balance but I'm having a weird issue.
Steering wheel shakes when you approach 60+, but with varying severity. It will shake hard one minute, and then soft the next.
I also found that stepping on the gas makes it shake, and letting off the gas (coasting down) makes it stop.
Is this an issue with the wheels, or something in my drivetrain. I never really noticed it with the RC's.
What is the mk4 standard locking lug bolt? IIRC it was like a 16 point.
View 1 RepliesI've been hearing a "clunk" like noise here & there when I turn the wheel on my GLI all the way to one side then turning it back. I've heard it when making u-turns and when reversing. It seems to be coming from somewhere on the bottom of the drivers side and it doesn't happen all the time. I've brought it to the shop twice but they can't seem to figure out what the problem is & the car won't make the noise whenever they seem to test drive it. What this might be?

Whenever I try to brake from 40+mph to 0 the steering wheel vibrates a lot. What can be the cause of it?
Had my trans worked on, it was out of the car completely. After picking it up, I got it on the highway, got it up to cruising speed, now there's a wobble at 70-80 mph. it wasn't there before I took it in. should I be getting a front end alignment now? waiting to hear back from the shop now.
View 2 Repliesso i got a set of saw blades of my buddy for nothing. before installing the car drove true and after lowering and putting adopters and saw blades on the passenger side wheel wobbles and pulls to the right its pretty much all over the road and cant for the life of me figure it out. only thing i can think of is axle or wheel bearing but there's no movement in the wheel when i move it side to side. only the right side seems to have this issue.

When on the highway, it gets worse/faster with accel. and when i let off the gas and coast, it almost goes away... does not change (better or worse) with braking.
Specs - Dropped on koni coils, 2 diff sets of rims (one brand new, one came with car same problem with both sets), spacers all around, everything else stock...
I searched and found a diy on how to change and flush the power steering fluid. I changed it on monday and a week later the same supercharger noise occurs when moving the steering wheel, My queastion would be what can the problem be and how i go about in finding the problem on my 20th ae 1.8t.
