View 6 RepliesI just changed both of the o2 sensors on my 337 like i was told and my car ran for about 80 miles until the engine light went back on again I brought it back in to get it scanned again and i got a P1174 code. What it is and some solutions.
View 7 RepliesI'm looking to get a GLI, but don't know which year to get. From what i've seen, the 2004.5 models are among the nicest. But what is the difference between each of the years? (2004, 2004.5, 2005), and what do you recommend to purchase?
View 9 RepliesMy car wont start I have replaced the coilpacks, ecu relay, and had the immo defeated. Here is the vag log [URL] .....
View 2 RepliesSo whenever I try to test my alignment ( which i just had done) by taking my hands off the wheel and applying the brakes the car always pulls to the right,
now I've heard that the GLI's brakes can sometimes ware uneven, could this be the cause of that? Will I need new rotors and pads?
2004 GLI 1.8t w/ 47,000 Miles
My lights went out in the console llight up the AC/Heat controls. All the other lights in dash work
View 4 RepliesCar: 2004 Jetta GLI 1.8t
Problem: HID's wont turn on
Parts: Helix Projectors; Direct Connection Tuning 6000K HID kit, Ebay relay harness
Other Facts: Had this setup for about 8 or 9 months now with no problems whatsoever. Drove my car home last night and they worked fine. Got in my car tonight for the first time since last night and my headlights wouldnt turn on. All lights, work, just not the low beam HID's (and the high beams, but that's because there's no bulbs in there).
The fact that neither bulb works leads me to believe its the relay harness. Whats the deal? What can I check? All connections and fuse for relay harness seem fine...
I have a stock 04 GLI, I want to get rid of wheel-fender gap. Whats the most easy and basic way to do this? Can I do just springs? If so which ones?
View 14 RepliesI just moved out and lack in the tool department. i have a set of screwdrivers, needlenose pliers and cresent wrench. any way i can get that bolt out to get the battery out with these or do i need the other easier tools?
View 2 RepliesMy wife was driving home and was exiting the freeway, downshifted and then no response from the clutch or gearbox. It would move left to right but not go into any gear with the car on. No real pressure in the clutch pedal either. With the car off you are able to find all the gears but when you start the car in gear with the clutch down it just jumps forward and dies. No smoke or burning smells either way and the pedal does come up by itself. Pushed the car into the driveway and its goin to the shop tomorrow morning.
With the search button so far: master/ slave cylinder, full clutch problem, air in brake/clutch lines, shifter linkage bracket
I don't think it's the slave cylinder as the pedal is NOT stuck to the floor, but I am not handy with cars, only motorcycles. First thing I checked was the linkage bracket, which seemed to be fine and as I stated, I was able to get in gear while car was off. Brake fluid was almost full but i know that doesnt rule out air in the lines.
Car (04 GLI) was running completely fine for the past few months (since I bought it) and I get off work last night and it doesn't start. Lights/accessories turn on fine. Got the battery tested and it's fully charged. Alternator was tested 2 months ago and was perfect. I assume it's the ignition switch/starter. Had to get it towed. God that horrible noise when a lowered car is pulled onto a flatbed. The guy was nice and tried his hardest not to mess anything up. Will update once I find out the issues.
View 10 RepliesI'm an owner of a 04 Gli car is great just had a problem this weekend my dash marks coolant level I fill it up all the way and later on it has none I checked the hoses and there is no leak and the fan does not turn on i bought it a new fan switch does .a question i have is at what temp does my fan need to turn on? any is it marking coolant...my check engine light is not on.
View 1 Replieswhats the engine code for the 04.5 gli 1.8t???
View 5 RepliesHave 66,000 on the clock. AC has blown cold since i have had the car, and yesterday quits blowing cold, summer is right around the corner.
View 2 RepliesThe sunroof on my 04 gli just decided to open by itself and now it won't close. Why this is happening?
View 16 RepliesI got a 04 mk4 gli 1.8t and I got a po171 lean code and I know it could be a vacuum leak the maf sensor and other things. But when I clear the code it takes a couple days for it to come back on. But when I do clear it and start the car for the first time the car idles read bad almost sounds like miss fire. The when I pull out it hesitates just for a little than runs fine. Could this be a bad or dirty maf sensor? Like I said it takes a while for the cel to come back on.
View 1 RepliesGot an 04 GLI and I have the infamous hazard clicking sound. I replaced the hazard and it's still clicking, even worse than before. I'm going to spray some contact cleaner on the plug to see if that might fix it.
View 2 Replies04 BMP GLI, 135000kms
This odd noise just started today. Whenever i accelerate at any rate, an odd "buzzing" sound occurs. It almost sounds like a diesel... Boost is not holding as it should, and I get exhaust backfires in first, second, and third gear. Makes no noise when i lay off the throttle, only when i touch the gas... I don't have a VAG-com, I'm thinking a exhaust leak or boost leak.

Is it possible to change the MFA reading to metric? My car is from the US and wanted it to read in kms??? Looked in the manual couldnt find anything....
View 1 RepliesI was wondering if I could take the automatic transmission from a 2004 Jetta 1.8 turbo gas and put it in my 2005 automatic 1.8 turbo gas GLI. Everything about the cars seems the same to me except some of the cosmetics on my GLI.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2004 Jetta GLI VR6 (24v).
I noticed the driver side cooling fan stopped working (actually it sometimes goes on or off, but mostly off). I stopped using the A/C. The car has no overheating issues whatsoever. The 2nd fan (passenger side) kicks in when its appropriate
So I think its fair to assume that the fan gave out. In fact I remember using the A/C one day and a smell of burnt electronics/motor overcame me, so I popped the hood and noticed the driver side fan is a little absent .
Some simple questions:
I've been told by people that the 2 fans sometimes have different functionality, one for A/C one for Cooling blah blah. They are different sizes, the one affected is bigger. What is the reality here? Do they have specific purposes?
Should I replace both of them? Since the job is so labor intensive and the other cooling fan has in some way taken the burden of the non-working one?
Is there anything else that could prevent the driver side cooling fan from working (FCM?)?
