I have a 2004.5 Jetta GLi and I want to get rid of the Amber turn signal inside the headlight. Do they sell a clear or smoked lens for that, or do I have to buy new headlights all together?
View 3 RepliesHearing a whistle noise after installing the Recon smoked turn signal lense? The whistle starts between 40 and 50 mph and is the driver side only. I have triple checked the installation and it has the same clearance all the way around as the left side. I sent Recon an email on Jan 5th about this issue and still haven't heard back from them.

Other Facts: Had this setup for about 8 or 9 months now with no problems whatsoever. Drove my car home last night and they worked fine. Got in my car tonight for the first time since last night and my headlights wouldnt turn on. All lights, work, just not the low beam HID's (and the high beams, but that's because there's no bulbs in there).
The fact that neither bulb works leads me to believe its the relay harness. Whats the deal? What can I check? All connections and fuse for relay harness seem fine...
I'm an owner of a 04 Gli car is great just had a problem this weekend my dash marks coolant level I fill it up all the way and later on it has none I checked the hoses and there is no leak and the fan does not turn on i bought it a new fan switch does .a question i have is at what temp does my fan need to turn on? any is it marking coolant...my check engine light is not on.

View 3 RepliesI was on the way home tonight and I noticed the driver side HID headlight turn off after putting my turn signal on.
I have LED DRL fog lights installed and they're wired with no relay and plugged into the Engine Compartment fuse box. The installer connected them on the left side (where the wires come in, from the two black components by the air filter).
Could this wiring setup be interfering with the HID's?
2004 Jetta GLI V6 24v 6 speed ... This started a few years ago, but it was happening in 3rd gear only -- therefore I avoided engine braking in 3rd gear all along. The noise was a pretty loud, noticeable grinding/spinning noise. 3rd gear while accelerating or maintaining gas worked and still works perfectly, smooth as can be.
Somewhat recently (6mo-1yr ago) all the other 5 gears started making this grinding noise, some more than others. 1st gear I don't really know because I don't engine brake in 1st. However, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th (barely noticeable but still there) all make the noise. I now of course avoid all engine braking, however even the transitional steps between gears can be heard sometimes ... unless I perfectly match the RPM etc, but I'm just trying to get to work and back here ...
The car is still quite drivable, but with a major obstacle (pain in the ass) and a new clutch is probably around the corner -- I have 107K on it now. However ... a few years ago when it had 26K on it .. it didn't need a new clutch yet 3rd was still making that noise.
My headlight bulb is out on the left side. Tt's just a regular bulb, not HID's or anything. I got a new bulb and it still doesn't work. I checked the wiring and it seems intact. The other lights which are connected in the housing work fine.
View 1 RepliesSo I just recently purchased an HID kit for my GLI. After installing i went to turn them on and my passenger side is out. But when we tested both sides individually they both worked fine. I checked the bulb and tested it with a new one and the new one didnt turn on either. We tried 3 different ballasts and still nothing. I took it to my local shop where i bought them and they were stumped as well. We tested it for power and yes there is power getting to it. Along with all this, my highbeam light on my dash is on?

Well took peoples advice for what worked and did up the headlights today. I think I didn't do enough sanding so I might do them again in the near future. They look better though I think. I took a few pics as I went for others to see and here they are

Attempting to install the rheostat headlight leveling switch I somehow managed to blow out the entire dash lighting.
The two white wires next to the brown one touched each other and made the dash flicker on. Now it doesn't want to turn on at all. I replaced fuse 11 and 15 and that did not luck.
My Jetta has had an off-and-on clicky turn signal sound without turn signals or hazard lights actually blinking. I put up with it for a while, but recently it's been more clicky than not. I'm aware this is a common problem. I had already tried the cleaner spray "trick" which made the problem worse if anything. Today, I removed my signal stalk as described here and gave it a cleaning. After re-assembling, the clicky problem didn't go away, and now the high beams are always on (even with the key out of the ignition, and the car isn't running). I temporarily dealt with this by pulling fuses 18 and 19 for high beams. It's an ok short-term workaround. Low beams still work fine.
I'm considering replacing the hazard signal relay, but a while ago I messed up while trying to use ghetto removal keys to pull my radio.
Ok, got in a fender bender a few weeks ago. The plastic strips (with the Torx screws) holding the headlight steady, broke from the impact. The headlight itself is fine, no glass was broken, headlight still works, but without those plastic things, it will not, of course, stay still. My question is...would I need to buy a whole new headlight just because the plastic tabs are broken?
View 5 RepliesDrove ~1500 miles this week, from MN to MA. While driving through PA my left headlight died in the middle of the night while raining. I ended up fixing it after spending an hour at a gas pump for shelter. Also in PA I randomly stopped.
View 14 RepliesMy T-rex was in recently for what seemed like 30 recalls... In the midst of it...my turn signal light bulb went out. They changed it...good thing cause you need to remove the ENTIRE headlight assembly with a special tool, etc. Well...my headlight now goes on/off as it hits bumps etc...was back in once to have it fixed...and has since started again. I noticed the entire assembly does not fit as well (tight) as it did originally, nor like the other assembly that has never been touched. Appears to have been the first assembly they have worked on and broke something cause now it does not mount properly...so after all that...
Had this headlight assembly removed?
I drive a 2001 Ford Escape. About two weeks ago, I went out to start it in the morning, and it wouldn't start. My friend came over to look at it, and told me I needed a new battery. I replaced the battery, and did not notice any problems for a few days. THEN, out of nowhere, my left front turn signal stopped working. I went to buy a new bulb, but on the way back from Autozone, it spontaneously started working again. I shrugged it off and moved on. The next day, I noticed the battery light was on, and my turn signal was not working again. Later that night when I went to drive home, the battery light was off, and the turn signal was working again. The next day, the battery light was off, but the turn signal AND the left headlight were out. Now, the headlight and turn signal both do not work, and the battery light turns on and off as it pleases. Is my car possessed?

View 13 RepliesI have never liked that the headlights are below the turn signals on the newer super duties. Has anyone swapped the positions so the headlights are on top? Will be ordering a 2016 next week and this would be one mod I would like to do. Not having the truck yet, I have not been able to do any investigation on what this would take or if it is even possible.
View 11 RepliesMy car is a 1998 Honda Civic. The left turn signal blinks at double speed when the headlights are off. When the headlights are on, it blinks at half speed. Should I replace the left-sided bulbs? Or the turn signal relay? Or something else? None of the bulbs are out in the front or rear.
One other fact: If the hazards are on with headlight OFF everything blinks in synchrony. If the hazards are on with the headlight ON the front blinkers flash alternating (left-right-left etc).
