A buddy of mine has a gti that is not starting. he said the temp light has been coming on and the car would start to struggle. of course he kept driving. Today it came on and stalled out. Now the car turns over but wont start. I replaced the temp sensor (green plug) and it wasn't the issue. its a 1.8t with 80k on it. 2002. I am assuming its got to be fuel or spark.

I have had my car parked for about 2 1/2 months and I just started it this weekend and I've always noticed on our cars when we start them in the morning I think it's the secondary air pump that turns on, it sounds like a blow dryer.. It only stays on for about 10 seconds maybe. Cause when I started my car this weekend I didn't hear come on.
View 3 RepliesI brought my 2000 9-5 Saab to Jiffy Lube on July 13th. On July 18th, it wouldn't start. It would turn over and everything, but it would just sit there and do the, "ruh ruh ruh ruh ruh ruh." I waited half an hour, and tried it again and to my surprise, it started. I drove it home without issue. The next morning, it did the same thing, but this time, it didn't start. Had it towed to the Saab guy, he says there's no compression in two of the cylinders and that it's going to be $1000 to fix the thing. I called someone for a second opinion, and he asked if I had run out of oil because no compression usually means an issue with the oil or something. Could Jiffy Lube have done something to cause an issue, and if so, is there anything that I can do about it?
View 16 RepliesMy 96 Town and Country won't start. It turns over and fires for about 1-2 seconds max. After that it only turns over, no fire. The key sign/symptom is that the odometer and PRNL do not light up. This is very sporadic. Sometimes months and months apart. I unhook the battery in an effort to reset the computer. Sometimes it works in 1/2 hr. Sometimes several hours. So I don't think it resets but I still do it anyway. I have replaced the computer but no luck. Could it somehow be the dash cluster?

View 2 RepliesI have a 2005 mkiv GLI and my gas gauge, temp gauge, and information display stopped working when the car is running. They work when the car is on auxiliary but not while it's running. The lights all work on the cluster all the time but the needles don't move as soon as the car turns on.
View 3 Repliesso i bought projector headlights on my 05 gli and they were easy to install and for the first few days no problems, when the car was off and the lights on it was the parking (P) lights (amber lights), later if the lights were on and the car was off the radio would turn on, the A/C and the low beams would be on even if the hand-break was up, and i still have the DTR lights on. is it a short circuit problem???
View 2 RepliesI have a 03 20th ae gti with about 84k just replaced the coil packs. driving on the freeway then power just goes away, press on gas and nothing. limp it off the freeway. Then it starts to die at idle and hardly turns over. car is pretty much stock. new clutch at 75k.

View 5 RepliesI have a 20th with 106k on it and I notice mostly my right front rubbing on hard turns. Suspension is totally stock other than a 28mm rear sway. Is it possible that's causing it or is my suspension just getting old? No spacer on the fronts.

View 1 RepliesMy 04 gli makes a rubbing noise when accelerating thru hard left turns.. but weird enough i can take the same turn at the same speed in neutral and have no noise at all. I changed both front wheel bearings and cant seem to find the answer. I brought it to vw and they checked the whole suspension struts springs cv's tie rods ect. and they all checked out good they said. the car used to have a exhaust and i just recently put it back to stock, could the exhaust make the noise perhaps?
View 1 Repliesi just rebuilt the motor in my 2002 ford ranger 3.0 and it wont start it cranks over but back fires and bucks alot. took the plugs out and it gets spark and fuel. when it sparks it sparks like multiple times.
View 3 RepliesI was driving along the highway and started losing power and within a few minutes I pulled over and and would not start. It turns over strong but never fires up. I recently had a Coil over plug replaced. I am thinking fuel filter or ignition coil hoping it is not a fuel pump.

I recently got a 2002 gti 337 from some dude in maryland. the car had apr stage 1 and 2 installed and a euro tuned air intake...everything else was stock. I've had the car for about 2 months now and all of the sudden it started sputtering and cutting out when id get on it a little. I also noticed I was smelling a lot of gas from under my hood. i read up and found that my car had a recall on the coilpacks so I just got them replaced thinking that would work..then changed the plugs as well. i still have a misfire though only in cylinder 4 and its really taking the fun out of the car. I only have it on stage 1 because I didn't have a turboback till just recently and now I don't even want to put it on cause i have no power.
View 8 Repliesi have a 2002 automatic gti , now car was running gr8 , then poof out of the blue, car started vibrating, yeah , like am on a big vibrator, and only when its on gear D,4,3 or 2 its vibrates , if i place on P or N vibration stops.
and keep in mind it only vibrates on speeds of 10 miles ,20 miles up to ~50 miles speed , if i give it gas,the vibration stops , i slow down on the gas , and the vibration is back , and whenever i stop at a red light , car starts to present minor chocks and viberation.
So out of nowhere my ABS and traction control light came on yesterday, then this morning it went away. When I got to work I pulled my e-brake and both lights came back on again wtf???? It's a 02 gti 337. Seems I am just having alot of luck to start off the week........
View 8 RepliesI have a 20th anniversary gti and recently installed my 3 inch down pipe.. but after i got it installed my check engine light comes on. the code says its an 02 sensor. i got that o2 sensor spacer from ecs tuning.. but the light keeps on coming on.. what should i do? this light bugs me so much....

View 10 Replies2002 GTi 337 not shifting out of 1st until is warmed up for 20 min. Then shifts fine. I've already attempted to add the "liquid gold" G-052-990-A2 ATF fluid from VW at $35qt. I put in about 200ML to no change, then another 200ML to no change. So from reading other posts in VWvortex I've seen many folks with the Jetta have had very similar symptoms. They are installing a new (Solenoid valve N92 (green) to fix this issue. Many of them are even using over the counter synthetic ATF. Before I dig in, just wanted to know what folks with the GTi 337 think about this? Am I dealing with basically the same transmission?
