GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 02M Transmission - 1 To 4 Shifts Smooth / 5th Is Little Tight And Can't Get Into 6th

Just did my clutch yesterday and now I'm having some linkage issues. 1-4 shifts smooth, but 5th is a little tight and I can't get into 6th. I feel like the shift linkages may be a little messed up.

I had my shift fork and 1 and 2 gear synchros replaced. Whenever i shift into second it doesnt feel as smooth as first. when i hold the clutch longer and put it into second it feels smoother.

I just bought a 2004.5 GLI and I quickly found out that some of the seals aren't tight. We had a pretty bad rainstorm a couple weeks after I bought it, and it left my trunk and my drivers side floor mat soaked. Not good, considering I have a subwoofer sitting there, just waiting to be destroyed.

So a year ago I installed the Stigma SS and I loved it, one of the best mods i've done to my car. However my love for it is decreasing. The notchy shifts are getting a little too much for me. Due to the winters here in Colorado, the cold makes it very hard to shift, notchy as hell, and first to second shift is very resistant when the car is first started. Even in the summer, it seems more difficult to get nice smooth shifts around town because of the resistance going into gear, it's just not as bad.

Recently bought a black 20th for my girlfriend for Christmas. Any ways, so I floored it from a dig, and the ASR light kept coming on during acceleration and shutting off between shifts, just wondering what the situation is.

my 20th feels a bit off when im shifting. First to second can feel very rough (just not smooth at all but it does shift easily but takes more effort for a smooth shift. second to third is also a bit off but not as much. all other gears shift normal and smooth.

One day i was driving my pedal went flat to the floor ,then i noticed my brake fluid was low so then i tried adding more fluid and bleeding it n pumping the clutch i got pressure back, but now i hear chatter in the tranny and it wasn't doing that till after I bleed it. It will go into gear with the car off but as soon as the car starts in wont at all.

Well, driving down the road just like any other day. I go from 1st to 2nd gear. It feels like I missed a shift, no big deal decide to put it in 3rd. Missed 3rd gear...... weird, no big deal through it in 4th and was on my way. Got to a red light, no 1st or 2nd gear. Where 1st and 2nd gear are, it feels like there is nothing there when i tried to shift into gear. If I go into 3rd gear its now 1st gear, 4th gear is 2nd gear.Had a mechanic look at my car, and the linkage and clutch are fine. He feels that something minor broke inside the transmission.
A) What do you think might be broken?
B) How could this happen?
Driving my car like a baby, I am never hard on my clutch. No pre-warning, no bad sounds, and I have never had an issue with my transmission before. I am hoping I do not have to pull my transmission out but it looks like I may not have a choice...

I've never had a leak before in my anniversary and now all of a sudden I have a coolant leak. Once I start the car and run it for a short time and shut it off I lose a few ounces of coolant. I inspected under the hood and the coolant seems to be leaking onto my tranny. I am unsure where exactly it is coming from.

Today I was driving getting on the highway while having the clutch engaged I went to shift into third and it was very hard to get it into gear. For the rest of the day today this was a problem and especially at higher rpm. I am pretty sure my clutch is going. I asked around local and they say it is the clutch. Do I need to also replace my flywheel or can I just use my old one?

I heard that smlw flywheel on the 6 speed trannys make a lot of chatter noise, I was cool with that so I put one in with a satch clutch kit and now it sounds like a marble or something is banging around inside!!!

Alright so basically i lost 1 and 2nd gear and i want to replace the transmission since this one already has 150k on it. The hard part is finding a used one because of the six speed! What models can i swap transmissions from? Like i heard i could use a 2003 Audi TT six speed transmission! What I can use to swap out my transmission or do i have to just look for a used one specifically for a 20th?

I was wondering if I could take the automatic transmission from a 2004 Jetta 1.8 turbo gas and put it in my 2005 automatic 1.8 turbo gas GLI. Everything about the cars seems the same to me except some of the cosmetics on my GLI.

So there's been a noise coming from what seems like the transmission for some time now.Here is how it began...One day I was reversing and noticed this clatter/grinding/vibrating noise coming from underneath my car. It only happened in reverse.However, now it's happening in all gears but not when accelerating, ONLY on deceleration in gear.
There's no clutch slipping, no noticeable loss in power, etc. Just the noise.I don't want to start replacing things left and right hoping it will fix it so throw-out bearing, trans mount, flywheel, etc?
2004.5 GLI 1.8T O2M. Transmission hasn't been touched from what I know of (bought the car w/ 37k, now has 77K),

My clutch was done about a year ago and the car now has a sort of "chattering" sound while the car is out of gear. Once you press the clutch down though the sound goes away. Is this just a by product of being converted from a Dual Mass Flywheel to a single, or is this a bearing issue or something otherwise that can be resolved?

I just bought a 2013 GLI Autobahn 6 speed manual. Ive owned a 6 speed Mazda Speed6 before but I'm having issues figuring out when to shift as this transmission seems different than any other stick I've owned. Usually my shifts would be right around 30 for 3rd, 40 for 4th, 50 for 5th, etc. Seems with this its a little higher and it doesn't want 4th until 45, 5th until 55.
But it seems like at 55 The car is telling me to shift to 5th but if I do it almost doesn't want it and feels like it struggles. Same thing in 6th, I don't feel right until I'm going 70 but that seems too fast to be first going into 6th since in 5th I am over 3k rpms and in my Speed6 I was in 6th at 60 mph. Feel like I am constantly in between 5th and 6th on the highway and its annoying.
Just curious what other are experiencing and when they tend to shift under normal driving.

Had my trans worked on, it was out of the car completely. After picking it up, I got it on the highway, got it up to cruising speed, now there's a wobble at 70-80 mph. it wasn't there before I took it in. should I be getting a front end alignment now? waiting to hear back from the shop now.

When I am going into or downshifting to second gear in my GLI it makes a thud sound after I let out the clutch. It doesn't always happen and it does it if I just throw it down and if I don't have a perfect rev match. It just started a few days ago.

Normally I'm pretty good about searching and finding info, but there doesn't seem to be a lot out there for these trannys. In any case, when I hopped in my 20th to move it today, I got this grinding noise when letting out the clutch. The car won't go move in reverse or any of the forward gears. Idles fine, sounds fine when in neutral or when the clutch is depressed. It just grinds when you let the clutch out. Seems like I can select each gear OK. Linkage feels normal.

My 337 transmission is acting a bit weird lately. Sometimes when I shift the gear from neutral into the first gear too quickly when the car is stationary (with the clutch fully pressed), the gear or the transmission makes a distinguish sound. I don't know how to describe this sound. It sounds like gears knocking each other in order for it to engage or set in place. It sounds different from shifting gear without fully pressing down the clutch. When I took the car to the mechanic, he test drove the car around the block but didn't hear anything strange. So he told me to wait till this problem becomes worse and happens more frequently.
