The cruise control and the overdrive off dash lights go out when I turn on the headlights. The cruse control and overdrive still work but the dash lights are not lit. It is a 95 4door explorer.

View 13 RepliesI got a check eng light and read the codes. Cam sensor, misfire 5 & 8. Replaced cam sensor. Got light twice more. Cam sensor. Cleared codes, now no light but, I lost bottom & mid range HP at a steady decline. Run like a scalded dog on top end. Replaced fuel filter on frame rail & air filter. No cure. Noticed dash dim when headlights turned on. Pulled pos battery cable engine died. Replaced alt old one tested good. Drove to parking spot no power damn near couldn't pull it self. Turned off wouldn't start. Before I turned off it would rev up perfect just no power to move. Had a camed up sound at an idle like a slight miss. No fault codes present. Ford claims crank sensor. Haven't replaced that yet. Have fuel in fuel rails. 10 coils could not have lost spark at once. Any part other than crank sensor?
View 14 RepliesI have a `95 explorer with the 4.0 motor. The electronic overdrive off indicator light (O/D Off) on dash started flashing today. The transmission seems to be shifting into overdrive. Owner's manual says to have it checked as damage can be caused. What I should be checking?

View 4 RepliesWhen I turn on the headlights of my 2010 the dash backlight dims considerably. It becomes difficult to see/read when the sun hits it just right...especially wearing polarized sunglasses. I have the dimmer switch set all the way high. Is there a way to increase the backlighting or have it not dim as much with the headlights on?

View 1 RepliesI have a 1990 aerostar 4.0 eddie bauer. I cant figure it out but when I turn the head lights on the dash lights go out. with the head lights turned off, the dash lights work just fine. I have changed the headlight switch, and the panel dimmer switch.
View 14 RepliesI have a 95 4-door Explorer XLT. When either front door is opened, the front courtesy door lights and the front dome lights on the overhead console don't come on. (I have tested and/or replaced the bulbs.) However, the rear and cargo dome lights do come on. The LED display on the overhead console does correctly display temperature and direction. The lamp buttons on the overhead console, also, don't turn on the map lights. The interior dimmer switch will turn on just the rear and cargo dome lights. The fuse is good and the vanity lights in each sun visor work fine.
View 6 RepliesFor some reason my front fog lights in the headlights are stuck on when I turn my headlights on. Even the green light on the euro switch indicating the fog lights are on is lit up. But the euro switch is not pulled out to that position. This just happened a few days ago. I was not messing with or touching any of the wiring. Just happened out of no where.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2013 elantra limited with the tech package. Today I discovered that my parking lights or headlamps stay on after the car is turned off and the vehicle is armed. The interior blue lighting ( gear selection, push start ignition button, a/c selections, Eco button etc. ) stays on as well. I checked the fuses, but couldn't find anything that pertains to the parking lamps.
I usually run my lights in the drl or headlights position as I lost the auto feature when I installed my H.I.D's. And they usually shut off after a good 15 seconds.
I installed a powered compact subwoofer today and initially wired it to the same battery terminal as the H.I.D.'s but now have switched to another terminal.
Ford Focus 2004 manual 150K miles. Most days the car runs fine. Other days it will start and run until it warms up, then stumbles or hesitates at speed. When this happens the headlights and dash lights are also flickering. Sometimes i hear a clicking sound behind dash, left side. I have the sure cure: turn the heater fan to high. This works every time. When the engine is hesitating, i turn the fan to 4-high, the engine smooths out. Turn the fan down, engine again hesitates. Hesitates at 3, worse at 2, worst at 1. It seems to need the extra load.
But after few minutes of high heater fan, the alternator light comes on. I flick the heater switch down, endure the hesitation for a few seconds, the alternator light goes out, engine still hesitating, flick the fan to high, engine smooths out. A few months ago i could get it to fun smoothly with the fan on 3, didn't need 4-high. Now seems to need 4.On the days when it is always running smoothly, the heater fan can be on any speed, the alternator light does not come on.
Next few days or even weeks the engine will run smoothly, no hesitation, with the fan on or off or any setting.
The car has been to three shops in past year, one of them a major Ford dealer, who kept it two weeks. The problem has been diagnosed as battery (replaced), Battery connections (checked), plugs (replaced), fuel pump controller (replaced), fuel pump (replaced - ouch!), alternator (replaced twice - ouch twice), grounds (checked). Every time they "fix" something the car runs ok for a week or so.OBD shows P2004 (intake manifold runner stuck) but all agree it can't be the problem.
There have been a few times when i flicked the heater fan to high that all the dash lights died, fan went off, headlights off, turn signals didnt' work, but the engine ran smoothly. Not so good on the highway at night!There have been a few time, not recently, when the car wouldn't start. No dome lights, no dash lights with key turned to ON, no clicking or starter with key turned to START. It acted as if my battery was missing. The cure was to turn the headlights on. All normal after that.
My girlfriend has a 99 explorer Eddie bower the dash lights and tail lights sometimes go out last time I checked the fuses they were fine will check again she does home health care so we drive a lot the last owner had a system in it he took it out when she bought it he just unhooked the box the wire we ran hidden but the dash around the gauge cluster does not fit right so it has been off I'm desperate to keep her safe.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2002 Ford Explorer. For about the last year some of the dash lights have been turning on and off randomly and intermittently. The three lights are the check engine, the airbag and less frequently, the check gauge light. It seems like there's some connection between the lights because often when one comes on so does another and often one will turn off, but immediately another will turn on. My mechanic (not a Ford dealer) tried to fix the check engine light by diagnosing and fixing the indicated codes, but a day later the light came back on. It stayed on for a week, then one morning it stayed off, but the airbag light came on. Is there some electronic (or other) component that links these three lights and could be causing this situation?

I found 3 blown fuses that I have replaced, however the only lights that don't work is the dash lights. I replaced the headlight switch and the dash lights are still not working?

View 1 RepliesWe have a 1995 S10 w/ a manual transmission. Our daughter had borrowed it and drove it to the store. She came out and it would not start. She tried every thing she could think of, and then tried to get it rolling and pop the clutch. Nothing. My husband and I went and tried it. No key buzzer, no dash lights, nothing. We tried a battery booster, but got nothing, another person came and we tried jumping it. That time we at least got dash lights (the ones you get when you turn your key on). Husband also tried to pop the clutch. Nothing.
Got it towed to the shop. They said they could find nothing wrong, but after they charged the battery, it started just fine. Drove it home, drove it a few more times. Went to start it and nothing. Thought it might be the battery, so we replaced it. Still nothing. Thought it might be that switch keeps the car from starting if the clutch pedal isn't pushed all the way down, so my husband mashed the clutch a couple times and it started. Went to start it the next time and nothing. Smashed that clutch pedal down hard, thinking that might work, still nothing. Husband came out and tried, still nothing.
2002 f350 ext cab. Having an issue where my lights are blinking or flashing repeatedly while driving. Or whenever really. Truck running or not. Auto light switch in any position. I can hear what I believe to be the under dash circuit breaker clicking on and off. If I turn my light switch to the on position, breaker still clicks but lights remain steady. Where to start looking? Bad wire? Bad switch?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2000 Honda CRV, standard transmission. Within the last 2-3 months, I have had my battery, starter, and radiator replaced. Three times in the last month, I have turned my car on and the headlights and dashboard lights won't come on. However, the break lights, blinkers, and other interior lights come on. The first time, I shut the car off and left it over night and the lights all worked in the morning. The second time this happened, I just turned the car lights on and off a few times, and they came back on. When it happened this evening, I tried turning the car and the lights on and off, but no luck. I took the car to a mechanic after it happened the first time. He said that because it wasn't happening then, it would be really hard to diagnose.
