When I am going about 55 my transmission sometimes starts downshifting and then up shifting again for no reason.

View 14 RepliesAfter 11 VWs, I finally have one that I would love to drive over a cliff. My 2015 Golf TSI Sport is a miserable car for me. I have had it back to the dealer four times for the infamous "shimmy" and shift problem with the automatic transmission. It has the standard automatic. The transmission has no idea which gear to use, it shifts like a bowling ball in a barrel.
Clunks upshifting and downshifting. The other problem is the shimmy/wobble. I have it in spades. The car always feels like it is hitting small strips in the road with a constant vibration in the front. The dealer cannot find the problem even though VW is trying to figure it out. (I have a feeling this isn't the first time). It is the worst driving car I have ever owned. Would much rather drive my 04 GTI with 100,000 miles and worn tires.

Been having a harsh 1-2 upshift issue lately. Had my car into a transmission shop as the dealer keeps saying nothing is wrong and the shop told me they got a p1603 code. Is this a problem and what should I do?
The mechanics writing was bad so I am unsure if it is p1603 or p1e03. I have tried looking up the code and it is a variety of things. One says engine stall history? All I remember doing recently is disconnecting the battery to try and reset the transmission computer and after the first start the car stalled then it started fine.
I have a 2005 Elantra where my transmission went. The tranny had a harsh upshifting when driving, also had it in the shop four times because it was hard to get into Park or Drive. Shop said they never could find a problem.. Did some checking on internet, the Accent and Elantra shared the same transmission I believe, and found a TSB describing trans axle solenoid problems from 1999 to 2006. I am going to fight this as I don't think I should have to pay for a factory defect.
View 1 RepliesMy freshly rebuilt C6 with Transgo shift kit and Hughes 2500 stall converter won't downshift until I'm nearly at a dead stop. My Cruisomatic did the same thing in stock form. I roll up to an intersection and the light is green. I slow way down to negotiate the turn. I then throttle when headed straight and the tranny is still in Drive. It does the same thing when slowing way down for speed bumps. Could the shift kit or stall converter affect downshifts?
View 10 RepliesI have a 77 F250 4X4, 400, C6. Upshifts and downshifts are working normally, except under light load and minimal throttle the tranny downshifts to 2nd at any speed under 40 mph. I've never had an automatic do this before. I checked the kickdown linkage is pulled up so it's doesn't seem to be in kickdown position always, no vacuum leaks to the modulator. I confess to be more of a manual trans guy so my knowledge is autos is limited.
View 2 RepliesI tow a car hauler that is about 8000 lbs. On my last trip occasionally when the truck would downshift into 5th under a load, it would bang in there pretty hard. Not a smooth transition, not every time just some times. Just wondering it that was normal or the start of a potential issue.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2002 F150 Super crew with a 5.4 and a 4R70W tranny. The issue I am experiencing is when the truck is driven where the tranny has shifted through all it's gears and cruising at say 55 mph, when depressing the accelerator pedal it either downshifts of something unlocks making a shuddering sound which sounds like when you run over rumble strips on the side of the road. The shuddering only happens for maybe a second at the most. If I am on the accelerator pedal when it up shifts or locks back up it makes the shuddering sound again. The harder the unlocking / locking or downshifting / up shifting happens the harder and longer the shuddering is.
This shuddering happens at the very last transmission function which happens in the transmission during it's normal operation. Other tan this issue the tranny shifts and operates excellent.
Ok long story short I was given a conversion van that is built on a e150 van and has a 5.8 liter with an e40d tranny.. This van sat for at least 3 years till recently..
I have cleaned all electric connections on the tranny and the one on the rear differential . New filter and fluid but did not drain the converter after driving it for about an hour we finally got it to start shifting gears automatically the problem is it wants to shift only under heavy acceleration and then only to second at about 35 mph and drive at about 60 mph and over drive around 80 mph and all this only under heavy acceleration you let of the gas a little and it starts down shifting..
What I may look for next that may be pretty easy to try. My thoughts at this point are maybe the torque converter is going south but I am hoping for a more simple solution..
I have a 2004 F150 XLT SCAB 5.4L 3v Fuel that I drive Daily, it has 280,000 miles on it. While driving to work (70mph) my throttle became unresponsive and it felt like the transmission was downshifting. Made my way to the edge of the highway and placed truck into Neutral, then the engine quit. Tried restarting at which point would not fire. After letting the truck sit (while waiting for a tow) I decided to try to start it. The Truck did start and ran for only about 2 minutes and then quit. The Tow truck finally arrived and I tried to start again with the same problem occurring, stated and ran for about 2 minutes (no throttle response) and died.
Got the truck home and decided to remove the Fuel line from the filter to see if there was fuel flowing, which there was none and no pressure. Replaced the FPDM with a new one, old unit was corroded but not cracked (replaced it once before). Tried to start and would only crank with out any fuel flowing (still had it removed from the filter). Thinking it may be the Fuel Pump but have to drain the tank being that I just filled it this morning before it died. The problem is, how to drain the tank before lowering it if the Fuel Pump is not running??? What the Problem is or how to test Fuel Pump or drain the Tank?
I recently overhauled a 5r110w torqshift in an 03 F350. The trans is acctually an 06 trans. The original problem was that the truck was "tieing up" on take off. When i tore the trans down i found the Low/Reverse clutches were burned bad and welded together. Everything else looked decent. I replaced all the clutches and checked all the clearances, except the OD clutch because i could not find any specs, or a way to adjust it. The trans has been doing good for around 200 miles. Now it has an intermittent problem.
When you first start the truck its like the converter has to fill up. It has a delayed engagement, but only AFTER you shut the truck off. Also, after driving about 10 miles, sometimes it will feel sluggish. I put my Solus Pro on it and while watching the trans data noticed that the transmission is not downshifting all the way int first gear at times. It will down shift, and then try to take off in 3rd and sometimes 5th gear. I was looking thru my ATSG manual and i can see which clutches turn in for 3rd. It seems like a solenoid is sticking on and allowing fluid to "leak" and keep the wrong clutch turned at the wrong time.
I have notice maybe a dozen times in the last few weeks that my 2013 5.0 Screw downshifts at odd times. It usually occurs while coasting around 35-40 mph (in 4th gear and downshifts to 2nd gear) or around 50 mph (in 5th gear and downshifts to 3rd gear). Obviously when this occurs, the rpms jump and when I get into the gas, the truck takes a few seconds to accelerate because it first must shift into the next higher gear. What is causing this?
View 2 RepliesWhen approaching a red light, if I take my foot off the gas to coast, it feels as if the transmission 'downshifts' at around 30mph. I can't actually feel the transmission shifting but there is a definite slowdown in speed, not just a gradual slowdown. Is this normal? I ask as doing the same in the '04 RX it does not do this.
View 5 RepliesVW replaced my entire transmission and it still jerks into gear when downshifting to a stop or hitting the gas hard while coasting!
Also, I swear there is now binding while turning a la moteur stepper. New tranny. New rear drive shaft. Allegedly new transfer case (I cannot confirm this though). New new new programming. And still the darned thing vibrates by butt with a downshift that a Bettle with 300,000 miles on the clock would not dare make.
Any reference to the operation of the transmission and the sequencing of the various clutches and other coupling devices with respect to gear selection and engine conditions?
I've been driving my wife's sonata to work this week and notice as I start to slow down at around 20MPH the car almost surges a little bit. Maybe I am not diagnosing it correctly but it's almost like it's downshifting rough.

View 7 RepliesI took my Phaeton in for a transmission noise and they are saying it's "normal" for V8 Touaregs and Phaetons to have this noise on downshifting under acceleration from 4th to third at around 40 MPH. Yes?
View 2 RepliesUpshifting is fine, downshifting gives me a big thud. Bigger from 3rd-2nd smaller 2nd-1st (I think).
2006 GS430. 120k or so miles.
Dealership replaced solenoid #2, but now say I need a whole new transmission.
Heard a clunk and then have the car feel like something from the inside is trying to stop it when using the paddle shifters in manual mode. Specifically when downshifting from 2 to 1. By the way I did a slight throttle blip, I have done this before with very smooth results but this time it really scared me, I though the transmission broke for a second; when the car did what it did.
View 6 RepliesHave an unfortunate circumstance. '03 Camry XLE 4cyl with 188k on it and the trans just went crazy. Was on the interstate and it started downshifting. Wouldn't stay up in the gear it was before and eventually wouldn't go out of 1st or 2nd gear.
Haven't had shifting issues in the past and trans fluid has been changed regularly at no more than 30k mile intervals.
Worst part is that this was on the way to vacation, so the car was towed to Ft. Walton Toyota. They are saying the trans is slipping and it needs a rebuild. Seems very odd to me that the issue would come on this fast with no earlier signs. A valve cover gasket was replaced a couple weeks ago, but I don't see how that could be the cause.
I have a 2009 that seems to have issues in the lower gears, I think that I have a transmission issue.
When I'm coming to a stop, I feel the transmission downshifting from about gear 3. It's not wildly jerky or abrasive, but it's not smooth either (or I wouldn't feel it). When it downshifts, after it engages (or torques down for lack of a better term) it feels as if it releases a bit, which makes me have to compensate with harder braking (again, not saying I am slamming on the brakes, but I have to brake harder so it doesn't feel like I am now going to coast into the car in front of me). It doesn't feel like the transmission is going to take off on its own, but it definitely feels like it has a certain threshold it wants to stay above.
In the loaner I have (RX), when coming to a stop the best way I can describe it is it feels like the transmission has completely disengaged and I feel NO transmission downshifting at all. The only way I get this type of braking in my LS is if I throw it into Neutral and take the transmission out of the loop. On the way to the dealership this morning to drop it off for other issues, I was at a stop light and went to accelerate and it felt as if it skipped a gear because I was stalled for a second (acceleration wise, not that the engine turned off) before it took off as it should. Also my acceleration seems to be a little hesitant when starting off .
