Ford Transmission :: 2006 Expedition - Surging Very Slightly While Cruising Under Very Low Throttle

Jul 27, 2016

My 2006 expedition surges very slightly while cruising under very low throttle. Usually most noticeable at 60-65 mph with no headwind.

Took it in and had my mechanic check it out. He confirmed the slight surge and said it felt like the torque converter was locking and unlocking. No codes or pending codes were found related to the power train.

Abs light is on for a bad rear wheel speed sensor. Code for right rear. Checking the sensor showed 3 ohms for right, 5 ohms left ( left is less than a year old on a new wheel bearing.)

Initial thought was the bad sensor is giving bad input confusing the pcm/tcm. But the condition remains with the sensor unplugged.

Driving down the road watching the tach, it does appear that the converter is not staying locked. Condition goes away with more throttle. Motor runs smoothly otherwise with no indications of misfire. Plugs have 50k miles on them, as does the transmission fluid. Fluid is red and smells fine. Never gotten hotter than 210 by the gauge in the pressure port.

Why would it lock/unlock at very low throttle, but lock tight with more throttle? Tps flaking out? Throttle body motor getting twitchy? Can I pull my popup to the hills this weekend?

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Turbo Surging When Cruising Along And Just Slightly Give A Little More Gas

Occasionally, under the right conditions, my turbo seems to surge...meaning I can hear, and feel the turbo kick in and out...kinda like it is right on the threshhold of not knowing if it needs to kick in out not. This usually only happens when I'm cruising along and just slightly give it a little more gas. Otherwise it seems fine...plenty of power etc. What could be going on here...just the nature of the beast??

My truck is a 2011 F150 Eco Screw 4by....

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2006 F350 Misfiring And Surging While Cruising At 1500 -1700 RPMs In Any Gear

I have a 06 f350 with 5.4 140k miles. Recently it has been shaking bad on idle but only in gear and it's hard to start when cold. The exhaust is moist at all times and the fluids never leak. When you floor it it hesitates feels like it's overly rich but if you let off a little it stars to pull again. Also while cruising at 1500-1700 rpms in any gear it will surge and skip. Only time it will miss and the CEL comes on is over 4000 rpms for a random misfire. Just put new coils in new fuel pump and filter. There has always been a cat code but it never effected the drivability. Could it be injectors?

Ford - Expedition :: 2003 - Stutter When Cruising Around 35 - 50 MPH And Not Giving Much Gas

My 2003 Expedition has begun to "stutter" when I am cruising around 35-50 MPH and not giving it much gas. If I am accelerating, or take it out of overdrive, it does much better. It is not an engine skip, more like a hesitation in the transmission. I recently had the transmission fluid changed.

S-10 :: 1999 Chevy Transmission Downshifting At Highway Speeds When Slightly Let Up On Throttle

My S10 started downshifting at highway speeds when I slightly let up on the throttle. It only starts after driving 20 or 30 miles down the road. (gets hot?) It also hesitates slightly starting from a dead stop as well after that. I dropped the pan, cleaned it up and added new fluid. There was a fine powdery sludge on the magnet in the pan, but no metal shavings. It is still doing the same thing.

It has 95,500 miles on it. 2.2 motor. The fluid was low a couple weeks ago. I added a bottle of conditioner. Don't remember the brand name. 2 reservoirs in the bottle so it mixes as you pour it in. It started acting up 7 days ago.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Surging While Driving Under Light Throttle

My recently acquired '07 SE V6 has a little quirk when I drive it in the morning. Until it warms up completely, it seems to have a little surge while driving under light throttle. Tach doesn't jumo, and there is no CEL. Tranny was just flushed and serviced also. Once the car is at normal operating temp, all is well. I've searched the archives, and there are some suggestions about having a bad TPS, but my rpm fluctuations aren't that bad, and like I said, don't make the tach move. It also will sometimes hesitate just a hair when taking off for the first time after starting.

Ford Transmission :: 2006 Expedition Converter Stall Speed?

Specifically for a 2006 Expedition 4R75E . What the stall speed of the converter for this truck is supposed to be? The reason I ask is that the converter seems rather loose. At any point during acceleration the converter will allow the engine to rev up to 2500 RPM, depending on how hard I press the gas.

During normal (for me) acceleration the engine will come up to 2000-2200 rpm and just hover there through all 3 gear changes, then when the vehicle is up to speed and I let off the gas, the converter will lock and the rpms will settle down to something less than 2000 (assuming I'm not going over 75mph) if I press it a little harder, the rpms will come up to about 2500 and just hover there through all the gears, then lock when I let off. the only time a gear change will result in a lower rpm is if the engine is spinning over 2700(ish) rpm.

I'm not sure there is a problem, I'm just curious what the stall speed is supposed to be. if it is supposed to be a 2400 rpm converter, then the behavior makes sense, but if it is supposed to stall closer to 2000, then I'm thinking it might not be working as designed. I've tried to find this on my own, but I don't know where to look.

Golf/GTI VI :: 2012 - Bucking And Surging Up And Down When Cruising

So me wife has put on about 7000 miles on her new tdi. It's a dsg, 2012. We brought it in for some warranty work and oil change at 600miles.

She is having bucking forward and back issues in the morning and after the car has sat for a while. When you go to accelerate light throttle it literally jerks forward and back and moves you in your chair when shifting first to second.

Dealer said no codes no updates nothing. I know the dsg is clunky normally but it literally jerks us back and forth in the seat 2 to 3 times or more.

Also when on the highway it surges up and down when cruising 70 to 75 like wind is blowing the car with steady throttle.

I told dealer last visit to reset the dsg gearbox as my wife did 70%traffic driving the first 4000miles. Now it's 90% highway.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2002 - Throttle Feathering While Cruising

I just had an exhaust manifold replaced on my F-150. It has the small 8 cyl.. While the manifold was leaking, the truck of course ran like crap.....spitting, sputtering, barfing, etc.

Now that the manifold work has been done, the truck runs pretty well, except for some intermittent increase in throttle (not by me) when cruising at highway speeds. This is comparable to the "feathering" of the throttle that you would do when checking for engine noises.

Hard to explain without feeling dopey, but kind of a mild ruuum, ruuum, ruuum out of nowhere when I'm cruising along. I drive a 5 hr. trip every weekend, and it will do this about every 10-20 minutes.

Ford - Expedition :: 2005 - Shutter Like Driving Over A Rumble Strip When Apply Little Throttle

My '05 Expedition will be driving normal at highway speeds, and when I need to apply a little more throttle to start up a hill I get a shutter thru the truck that sounds and feels like driving over a rumble strip. It doesn't last but just a second or two, but it happens frequently. Is it something in the 4wd? Transmission? or.......?

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Surging At Light Throttle And Low RPM

I have a '01 7.3 Excursion 2WD. 220,000 miles. It has a 4" exhaust, K&N filter and Edge Reprogrammer set on emission illegal. It gets the best fuel economy and moves out very well for 8000 lbs. Recently, I started to feel a surge while making light throttle acceleration. For example, round a corner at 35 and try to gently resume the 45 Speed limit. It begins to accelerate and then cuts out or surges, sometimes several times. If I lay into it, it responds fine. I have serviced the air filter, the fuel filter, use synthetic Amsoil. I did notice a slight improvement after the service. Less frequent cutting out or surging. I also was in an area where Bio diesel is readily available. I added almost a full tank of B10 Bio and it seemed to work. Changed the fuel filter just after.

It has been cold for NC. This morning it was +14 when I started the truck. It seemed to finally catch on maybe 2 cylinders with lots o' white/ blue smoke. It cleared out in a few minutes and seemed to be hitting on all 8, or at least 7. Once it warmed up, it's fine. But I had the codes p0672, p0674, p0676, p0678. My question is: Is there a common thread in the fact that it appears that I lost 4 glow plugs on the same bank?

One arm chair quarter back's response to the surging, is that the under valve cover injector wiring harness may be breaking down, especially since the truck has 220,000 and the valve covers have never been off. I have a fresh turbo with the good wheel sitting ready. I have just been too lazy to swap it out. Would a fresh set of injectors be a wise choice, when I swap over?

Buick - Parkavenue :: 1995 - Occasional Miss When Cruising Along At Highway Speeds And Slightly Rough Idle

Got a strange one here. 1995 Buick Park Avenue, supercharged 3800, 159K miles... an older car, but an unmolested one. A little over a week ago I began to notice an occasional miss when cruising along at highway speeds, along with a slightly rougher idle. Both the fuel filter and the plugs/wires predated my ownership of the car (a little more than 6 months); so seeing no obvious culprit, I replaced them and hoped for improvement.

Unfortunately, neither had any impact. The missing continued to become more noticeable. It was never present under acceleration. Most of it was like a split-second long version of "bucking" that could be observed while cruising at lower (<2000) RPMs. It was also very noticeable at idle. Eventually a code was set: P0341, camshaft sensor issue. If the story had ended there, it would have been just another night in the garage. But it didn't.

As I was noticing the aforementioned symptom increase, I also noticed my voltmeter would occasionally "twitch" in the downward direction. Eventually I had an incident where I came to a stoplight... transmission in Drive, foot on brake, gauge dropped to around 10-11v. It returned to 14v momentarily, but dropped back down, held there for several seconds, returned, etc. No particular rhyme or rhythm. Of course my first guess was that the alternator was failing; a separate problem from the other.

I checked all the relevant connections (at the battery, at the alternator, etc), and cleaned them for good measure. All were tight, relatively clean, and the cables showed no resistance on the ohmmeter. It happened that I had another correct alternator on hand (used/working pull), so I swapped it in. No change. I reinstalled the original and was back where I started.

On my most recent drive, I noticed both issues had become very noticeable. The drop in voltage was happening at nearly every stop, and the missing was happening a few times per minute while coasting along. There seemed to be some correlation between the missing and voltage fluctuating, but it wasn't absolute.

I decided to attack the voltage issue again. Re-checked all the cables; same result as before (all OK). Looked all over the car for possible bad grounds, loose connections, or other visible problems, but found none. My next thought was to run a jumper from B+ to the voltage regulator's Sense input (have seen issues there on more than a few older vehicles) - but after reading that this car uses the PCM as the voltage regulator, I didn't proceed.

Just to be certain I'm going to have the alternator tested by the local auto parts store. But I suspect it'll pass.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Slight Hesitation In Throttle While Cruising / Truck Stalled Won't Fire

Last night I bought 2000 F250, 346k on it... Crew cab short bed 4x4 with ranch hand bumpers like I wanted .... Headed back home (Miami FL ~1100mi) and covered about 200 miles @70-75mph before i ran into few problems ....

First off, while cruising I noticed slight hesitation in the throttle, with loss of speed regardless of pedal pressure, noticeable on inclines. It would go away on downhill and get smooth response again and pick up speed. This went on for about 40 miles.

Then I noticed heater blower stop blowing hot and start blowing cold, without me changing any settings. At the same moment, I noticed temp gauge move up and I hit next exit offramp to check what's up. During right turn at the end of off ramp truck stalled. Pulled to the shoulder, and popped hood.

Noticed empty degass/overflow bottle. Carefully opened lid and water gushed up to the top. When all pressure slowly released, water pulled down and emptied the bottle. Both upper and lower radiator hoses are empty. Engine oil has no traces of water tho. There were no leaks under the truck. I then tried to fire up the truck to get me to the gas station 1/8th mile away.

No crank in Park. WTS comes on and goes off. Cranks in Neutral, RPMs come up some, oil pressure shoots up to normal running position, but won't fire. Tried a while then gave up as not to kill starter and batteries completely.

Fuel pump works 20 sec then shuts off. There is fuel in bowl. I covered 140 miles since last full fill up, so not fuel pickup issue I don't think.

Summary

Have crank
Have RPM
Have oil pressure
Have fuel
Have (had) batteries, now not so hot

It's cold out ....

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Erratic Throttle / Surging When Moving From A Dead Stop Through Low Speeds

I have a 2009 F150 4x4, XLT crew 6.5' bed, 5.4 engine. The truck has a very strange erratic throttle behavior from a dead stop through low speeds, shifting seems very strange at low speeds too.

Dealer tried re-flashing the computer, but that didn't fix it. They talk about some valve that sounds to me like it's similar to an EGR function, but I cant remember what he called this valve. He explained the issue as exhaust gasses that are to be recirculated and burned, but the valve is opening at the wrong time, or stuck open or something so it feeds the fire so to speak.

Does any of this sound typical or common? Is this something that's hopefully easier to do than a spark plug change on a 5.4?

Ford - Windstar :: 1998 - Start Running Rough If Throttle Is Slightly Cracked

From cold, I start the van up, and if I just slightly crack the throttle it will start running rough. I think it goes away under heavier throttle...might just be that the rpms are up I can't feel it anymore, I don't know. It will idle just fine, and after it warms up it also seems fine. Where to look? Also I sometimes hear a very small, high pitched, vacuum leak from under the hood. What are the most common items that go bad, that I should look at first?

Prius (Gen 2) :: Engine Revving Up When Cruising At 70-80mph With Little Throttle Input

I recently took a long drive, and on 2 occasions, I heard the engine revving up when just simply cruising steadily at 70-80mph with little throttle input. I checked the LCD screen drive-train diagram, and there's no indicated of the engine turning during the revving. The car does not accelerate during the revving. Happens say for 10 - 20 seconds each time. To stop the revving, I simply give it a bit of throttle. I'm not on Cruise Control. Its a strange feeling, and I hope this isn't connected to the runaway Prius syndrome.

Ford Transmission :: 1997 Expedition XLT Won't Stay In OD

Vehicle 97 Expy, 5.4 XLT 2x4, air leveling and tow pkg.

Situation: installed TransGo SK E40D spring kit to cure 1st to 2nd hard shift. It did the trick and shifts great up to a point.

Issue: Now after replacing the springs, any and I mean any added load (mild incline, lane change) while in OD it will downshift, won't shift up unless going down hill and I'm sucking gas. 1st-3rd is great, but it will not stay in OD to save its life.

I believe the cure is to reinstall the old OD springs, but I don't know which set that is in the accumulator body? I also could be wrong and it may be something else.

Update: found the instructions, need to know if the 4th Accumulator piston is OD?
