For the past day, when I turn on my 2008 Ford Taurus X, i hear a repetitive flapping sound for about 15 seconds. It seems to be coming from the center of the dashboard. It sounds like " bap bap bap bap..." My son said it sounds like a metronome. Is this bad??

Friday when I started the vehicle there was a sound that lasted for about 10-15 seconds that was like "Tack tack tack tack tack tack tack" coming from the passenger side dash seemingly behind the glove box. Perfect rhythm.
No dash warnings or alarms. Everything seems to be functioning fine. I've started the car 4 times since then with the exact same behavior. Only occurs when I first start the car.
The AC seems to be working well (thought maybe it was something related to that as it's just gotten warm here).
The local Ford Dealership is an option however they are an hour away so if this is something I might be able to diagnose and fix myself, I'd prefer to. My searches thus far indicate that it could be a problem with a blend door actuator but I've not seen much info on what investigating/replacing that might encompass.
I have an 07 v6 3.6L (50Kmi) that makes screeching sound upon startup for 15-30 seconds. Not belt/pulley noise, more like valve lifters without oil noise. Trying to decide whether to go to the dealer before the power train warranty expires or to leave it alone.
View 1 RepliesI recently bought a 2006 Hyundai Sonata 3.3 V6. Had another issue related to the rear wheel, which I fixed. Today, I changed the oil filter on the car (along with the oil). I have heard this engine noise before, but with the cover off it appears a little louder. It's basically a ticking sound.
The engine uses no oil, and has no other leaks. It has some noise on startup for maybe 1-2 seconds (like a loud lifter or something, but it goes away in less than 2 seconds, and at the same time the oil light goes out). I changed the filter today because I was told that a leaky gasket could result in the Filter not retaining oil between starts, causes some minor knock for a few seconds.
But anyway, this other ticking noise seems to be regular, regardless of condition. I have heard some people say that some engine noise is normal for this engine, but how about this?
Driving down the road in my 2001 Jetta GLX VR6 and I slow down as i approach a red light. As I get slower I notice a repetitive clicking sound, i apply my brakes and it stops. So now Im curious so Im driving around doing about 20mph trying to find out what the hell this sound is. I know two things! Its coming from my drivers side front, and when I apply my brakes it stops. It clicks driving straight, turning, coasting with the car in neutral. My steering rack just blew out on me, so driving around with no powering steering and I have a click. I am not troubleshooting all day tomorrow. I don't have any vibrations, or what not.

Last night I was driving and started to hear a repetitive knocking sound. Stopped to determine if it was only when moving but it continued in park.
Checked the oil and apparently there was very little of it.
Don't know how I screwed that up but the mechanic heard the engine for 1 second and said I need a full engine replacement.
So, yeah I am ticked off and need to take care of it.
The VIN qualifies for a replacement under the recall but I don't know how the dealership will feel about the present engine condition.
If that's not an option, where do I even begin to look for a replacement?
I have this repetitive rubbing sound coming from the driver's side front wheel. It increases as I go faster and slower as the car goes slower. When I apply the brakes the sound disappears. It usually isn't audible when first driving but will show up after a few minutes. If I'm turning slightly to the left it will go away, or if I make a right turn I will occasionally get a rattling noise that's distinctly different.
I had this looked at a while ago, before the rattling noise appeared, and they determined it was a motor mount and replaced that. The noise did not go away.
I've taken a look at it and do not see anything obvious. Brake pads are still good, rotor is smooth and not visibly warped (though it has more rust on it than I'd like). I tried moving the tire to see if the bearings were shot but didn't have any luck (I'm not ruling it out yet).
The noise was getting more constant and less intermittent so i swung into the dealership. There is something mechanically wrong with the engine and i left in a loaner car. They did not feel it was safe to continue driving it until the problem is pinpointed. They didnt tell me
much other than that and that they are contacting VW concerning this..... 530 miles on ODO.
So a week ago i bought a golf r, it's a 4 door w/sunroof nav. It has 418 miles odo and is making a very intermittent tapping/clicking sound coming from the passenger side.
I've read about the fuel system pressure tester noise and heard it on youtube and it is NOT the sound i'm hearing. I notice it at lower speeds both coming to a stop and sometimes rolling away from a stop. Last time it did it while approaching a stop i immediately took the car out of gear and completely let off the clutch and the noise continued without change.
It is a repetitive clicking sound that does not change in tempo, it's constantly the same rhythm. It sounds almost exactly like a nail in a tire.... only there is no nail in any tire and it is completely random.
Theres been times where i've already been driving for 45 minutes yet it does it.
The car is basically brand new and NO i havent beaten it what so ever yet.
Recently my car has been sputtering a bit after I start it. It starts fine, but it sputters like it is going to run out of gas, but it's always at least 1/2 full.
To get it to stop I have had to pull over, turn it off, and restart it after a few minutes of running, then I haven't noticed anything again until the next morning when I start it again.
One time it turned off by itself when I stopped it and put it in park.
If at all possible we'd like to repair it ourselves, but we are not sure what could be wrong.
Our thoughts are: clogging/clogged fuel filter or spark plug issues. What could be causing this sputtering?
Again, it is not constant, as after restarting I continue to drive almost 60 miles to work, then back home in the evening with no issues yet. It has stopped once, but never while moving.
My mother and I own a 2001 RAV4 and over the past few weeks/couple of months we've had 4 instances where the car wouldn't start. Everything works - lights, radio, windows, etc. but when we try to start the engine it just makes a repetitive ticking sound and won't turn over. The first 2 times it happened the car eventually started but the second two times we had to get a jump. I suspect that there is a loose connection somewhere in the battery, but when it happened again the other day my mother got a jump and drove to the dealer for a look; the repairman said that the battery was fine and couldn't offer any other explanation for it.

If I am at idle, the car dies. No check engine light. The car has had all new ignition parts in the last year except battery and alternator.
I have a 2012 Ford Taurus when I turn the ac on it goes fast and then back to normal every like 3-5 seconds. It blows cold air and it doesn't matter the speed of the ac it speeds up and slow back to normal. Has 49100 miles...

Just the other day the car completely turned off and all the lights on the dash lit up. I had to break and restart the car in the middle of the road. What is the problem here and how cheap will it be to fix?
View 6 RepliesI purchased an '07 Touareg within the last 30 days. Right after purchase, I began to hear a tapping/flapping sound from the front passenger side, seeming to be somewhere in the dash.
I currently have it at the dealership and have been getting mixed answers. First they thought it was something they could fix and today I was told that it was a "normal sound on a Touareg".
Immediately after putting new tires on my '02 Taurus SES, steering is really hard at the pullout, or turning at slow speed just after startup. After several seconds, steering is back to normal. I did have the steering pump flushed out with new fluid several months ago, and fluid is up to level now.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2003 Taurus that runs fine until I stop at a traffic light and then has a misfire about every 5-10 seconds. This diminishes greatly if I put the car in neutral or park while I wait. I have had the spark plugs changed twice. It seems to be more severe in hotter weather. When I was visiting LA, I noticed my cab driver who was driving a 2003 Taurus always put his car into neutral at stop lights as well and when I asked him it turned out that he and all of the other 2003s in their fleet had the same problem. What is wrong?
View 2 RepliesI own a 2007 Ford Taurus with about 108k miles on it. When I first start the car, the rpms stay very high (2000) or so for about25 seconds. Once I start the car, until it gets all the way warm, the rpms want to stick around 1300 until I'm stopped for a few seconds, then they jerk downwards hard to almost 400 and come up to around 700.
After the car gets warmed up, it no longer sticks when I brake, but then when I'm stopped it lurches shakes and jerks between 400 and 1000 rpms. Occasionally it will die ( maybe twice a week) but then starts right back up again. I have replaced:
Air compressor
Idle air control valve
Throttle body sensor
I replaced the throttle body sensor yesterday and it seemed to drive better but it only lasted for about 12 hours then the next time I started the car it's doing it again. The only solution I've found so far is that it jerks just a little less when I'm in neutral.
My 2006 Mountaineer 4.6 is ticking at start up, and it gets quieter after about 30 seconds. Does this sounds like the cam phaser?

View 1 RepliesHave a 2011 F150 with the 5.0. 91K miles. On startup-cold or warm-there is a ticking/tapping noise coming from the engine for about 3-5 seconds then it goes away. Happens on every single start. Sound like it's coming from driver side on top of engine, but hard to pin point.
View 3 RepliesI've got a 2003 f150 with the 5.4 and 128,000 miles with an engine tick. Its not an exhaust leak I know that for sure. It has came up in the last 20,000 miles. I've used motorcraft 5 20 w/ motorcraft filter. I've tried a kreen engine treatment with no change. Heres the description/syptoms:
-Slight clatter for 2-3 seconds upon cold startup (happens very rarely)
-top end ticking that is loudest and most noticable when warm (quieter when motors cold)
-not timing chains/tensioners etc because the noise is coming from the top end and most noticeable on the passenger side.
-at idle the tick is present-when you rev at idle, the noise goes away.
-Driving (or having the engine under any load for that matter) the noise gets louder.
-Anytime I accelerate, tow/haul, go up an incline the noise gets worse
-Sounds like a "whirring" sound from within the dash.
With all that said I am thinking the lash adjusters are getting noisy. I had a certified gm tech that has 40 yrs mechanic experience under his belt and builds prostreet muscle cars on the side look at it. He listened to it to it and that was his diagnosis as well as its not that bad so just live with it. The noise at idle doesn't bother me, its when im driving with the windows down. The noise drives me crazy and is a little annoying to me.
