Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Transmission Is Not Downshifting All The Way Into First Gear At Times

I recently overhauled a 5r110w torqshift in an 03 F350. The trans is acctually an 06 trans. The original problem was that the truck was "tieing up" on take off. When i tore the trans down i found the Low/Reverse clutches were burned bad and welded together. Everything else looked decent. I replaced all the clutches and checked all the clearances, except the OD clutch because i could not find any specs, or a way to adjust it. The trans has been doing good for around 200 miles. Now it has an intermittent problem.
When you first start the truck its like the converter has to fill up. It has a delayed engagement, but only AFTER you shut the truck off. Also, after driving about 10 miles, sometimes it will feel sluggish. I put my Solus Pro on it and while watching the trans data noticed that the transmission is not downshifting all the way int first gear at times. It will down shift, and then try to take off in 3rd and sometimes 5th gear. I was looking thru my ATSG manual and i can see which clutches turn in for 3rd. It seems like a solenoid is sticking on and allowing fluid to "leak" and keep the wrong clutch turned at the wrong time.

Truck is slipping in/out of gear in 3rd gear. Shut it off and the problem may not come back for several days, but in general it is getting more frequent. No codes are registering for the transmission. Curious the wisdom of performing a simple fluid/filter change vs taking it to the transmission shop. Fluid basically looks/smells good, and is full.

I have a 2012 F-250 ccsb lariat and the shift from 3 to 4 seems to be a bit prolonged as if the converter is slipping and wont go ahead and push it into 4 gear. Also it will want to downshift from 3 to 1 and feels like the car behind nailed you. I have read that the early 2011 had some of this problem and the dealer reflashed the tcm and it did not do much good but as mine being a 2012 mine should have been flashed with the lastest tcm flash from the get go?? Egr fell off and am running Kory Willis tunes through ez lynk so the stealership is probably out of the question. I have also read that changing a couple solenoids( dont remember which ones) will fix the problem.

The tranny is shifting really hard between 2 and 3 if I feather the throttle it can be a little less of a jolt but still enough none the less iv never done a filter and fluid change as I just got it it has 235000 miles 99 v10 super duty 4x4....

I have a delay when I put my truck into gear. It only happens when I have turned the truck back on. It happens in forward as well as reverse. What is causing this? Syncros?

2015 F 250, less then 5k miles. When towing travel trailer, weight 7500lbs, on occasion transmission will not shift out of gear. Happens in first, second, or third. Very intermittent. Take off from a stop engine goes to 6k rpm. Let foot of the throttle goes all the way back to idle, still no shift. Accelerate back up to speed still will not shift. After doing this a couple of times finally shifts. Have had this happen in second and third. Not a lot of fun with cars behind you or trying to merge on highway. No codes
First trip to Ford dealer they re calibrated computer. Still happened towing. Second trip to dealer they put a flight recorder on it and I towed again. Did not hang up in first or second ,but would not shift out of third on highway doing 70mph, even when I lifted from the throttle and coasted. I finally shifted to manual and shifted to fourth and was able to upshift After reading flight recorder mechanic said it appeared normal. I explained that having to shift the transmission manually is not really normal and they agreed.

Drove the wife to work this morning. The turn off into town there was a lady stuck so I pulled over in the drifts. After putting in back in gear I had to get on it to get out of the drifts. Snow was blowing over the windshield, and I imagine throughout the engine bay.
After that it felt like it stayed in 2/3rd gear. I'd hit the pedal and it would redline and sort of accelerate jumping in and out of gears. So i slowed down to a stop. Accelerated slow and it was ok but when I got more on the pedal it would feel like it was slipping. Once I got in the driveway, she idled for about 15 mins while I shoveled out my spot. Once putting in gear again I had to rev it up for it to move.
Also reverse, had to rev it up to move it.

When pulling my trailer away from a stop transmission shudders in first gear, feels like t c. Once it changes to 2nd, it clears up. Getting ready to take in for service. Any thoughts? Still under bumper to bumper warrenty. 2008 6.4 auto f 350. 26k miles

I recently had a thread going regarding my 1999 F350 2wd auto transmission slipping in/out gear. Tried to follow up on old thread but got confused so I'm trying to start a new one. Basic problem is that truck was slipping in/out of gear. Cleaned the solenoid pack electrical plug (as instructed on previous thread) and the truck didn't act up for 2 weeks. Today it started slipping in/out again and this time it registered a code of P0705.

2015 F-250 Super Duty, 6.2 L Gas with 6r140 Transmission. I have 13 K miles on my truck. While pulling my travel trailer up a hill the transmission kicks down thru the gears, which is fine, but as I crest the hill and in 2nd gear, the engine begins to rev up and the speed increases, the transmission will not automatically go into3rd gear. I have tried to let up on the gas pedal, but it remains stuck in 2nd gear. I have to shift to "Manual" and then put it in 3rd gear. Then it shifts up as it should. I have tried with the transmission in "TOW' and not in "TOW". I have even tried it in "Cruise Control".

I have a 1999 ford f250 5.4 2 wheel drive i believe its a 4r100 transmission. auto. I have reverse but no forward gears. Ive heard this is a common problem , and on my reverse it has to hit 3000 rpm before it even tries to move and D 1 2 i have nothing only thing i hear is the engine sound changes gets deeper. Do i need a whole new transmission or is this fixable.

Will an 05-07 5r110w transmission work in a 2003 truck? Some sites show same part number for each and some show different part numbers. I know the gear ratios are slightly different and that there is some other internal changes made to the 5r110w.

I have a 2000 F-550 w/7.3 and a 6 speed ZF transmission. My problem is that when you go to shift into any gear inc. reverse the transmission stays in 5th gear. I pulled the shifter and tried to do it from top of transmission it still stays in 5th. Any thoughts that I could possibly check?

Came over the "mountain" tonight elevation is 1,054 (Snickers Gap) anyway cruise was set to 62mph and the truck kept downshifting. Got to 2nd gear about 5500 rpms and was trying to hold 62mph. I turned off cruise and it stayed in second and picked up speed still in second, I finally tried some braking and some acceleration with the gas pedal and it shifted up through to 6th. Truck has 6.2L and 3,300 miles on it. I wasn't really afraid of wrecking or anything but I was convinced it was going to redline in 2nd, it didn't but it was really loud. I was about 10-15 seconds from throwing it in neutral.
Additional info: I have driven this road for 14 years, with cruise control on in everything from a geo metro, (2) different 2010 f-150's 4.6 and a 5.4, ford escape hybrid, and many other vehicles. This is probably the 10th time I have taken the new F-250 in to the city and back it has never reacted this way before, but I have notice it downshifts more than I expect in other situations as well.
So is the downshifting what others are seeing?
6.2L Supercab, longbed 3.73 gears.

I have been having trouble with my 2008 Ford F250 4x4, 6.4 liter diesel transmission. SCT tuner, 10" lift, egg delete and dp delete has been done. I have been losing power mainly in reverse but have noticed that the transmission hasn't always been going into the last gear on the interstate. Code PO741 would come up. The other day the shifter was stuck. So I played with it and found that the cable on the transmission had fallen off. After replacing it. The transmission wouldn't go into reverse but has been doing semi good in forward. Well I have been limping it around until today when I was going down the road and it completely stopped pulling. Now no matter what gear I place it in, it will on go in reverse. What could be causing these issues or where to even begin to start looking?

After the hard downshifting full throttle highway run low speed stomp on it freeway cruising tires spinning on gravel crawling through town day yesterday -
my tranny just doesn't know what to do!! One thing that it does like to do is make that 6.2 spin and sing! Eventually we'll be on the same page so we can work and play seamlessly.

Having downshifting problems with REbuilt transmission. Is there a FIPL sensor for the 4r100? I was told to check all engine codes first, but i just have a EBPV sensor code, but removed the valve when I installed the GT38R turbo...
Rebuild:
- Tugger kit
- triple disc Billet torque converter
- New clutches and seals,.
- Banks Trans command module
... I also have a 6-pos tuner.. I had a Super chips tuner too and it has ALWAYS had the downshifting on acceleration on up-hill grades!!

I bought this truck with 60,000 miles and have had about 3 months. I don't drive it very much but when I do I have noticed that when it sets for 4-5 days or longer the transmission makes a weird noise as you take off and does does shift into gear as it does when I use it ever day. The problem goes away very quickly (not even a 1/4 mile driving) and everything is fine after that. By the way I took it to the ford dealer who did a complete 60,000 mile service on it that was suppose to include changing the transmission fluid and filters-could they have screwed something up (I did not notice this issue until after the 60,000 mile service?).

First off I want to say I love my 11 f350 6.3 srw she's a awesome truck. I pull a small 7x14 trailer for my biz..
(3600-400) is the usually weight, I always use my tow feature. One day last week I start out hit my button in go, but I notice the engine braking/down shifting wasn't working. The trans still shifts smooth n normal the light is on the dash but no tow engage.
I check the transmission wire plug to make sure it'd getting a good connection, it does. I take the rubber boot off next to the shifter look at those wires they look ok not pinch or nothing, so I'm stumped.

For the last month the light has come on one day then off for a week only to come on again then go off. Recently its been off and on everyday plus I noticed a roughness just rolling along. no change under power. My first thought is wheel bearing. No change while turning just a small hum and a tiny vibration. The trucks got 306k now.

1999 7.3 diesel 150K miles.
Over the winter, it sits in my driveway. I keep it plugged in and start it once a week. Lately when I start it, it cranks over and over several times but will not fire up. I stop cranking, wait a couple of seconds and try again and it will then fire right up. After warming up it everything was fine.
Now that it has warmed up outside, it still requires the cranking, stop and trying again but now even when the engine is hot, I have to do this. What is going on?
