Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Trailer Plugs Do Not Work
Apr 2, 2014
Went to hook up my trailer today and both the trailer plugs do not work. I checked the fuses and all is well. They worked fine the other day but now they don't work at all. I confirmed this by hooking up to another trailer and nothing. Also got another truck and went to trailers and it worked.
My truck has 19000 miles so it's practically new. I have never seen this. I called dealer but they can't see it til next week and I need the trailer brakes and lights. Where could I look or what could the problem be?

I replaced all the exterior bulbs in my 2013 F250 6.7L with LED bulbs. My trailer lights work but brake and signals don't work on the trailer.

I have an 05 f350. I cannot get trailer running lights to work. All other lights work. Trailer brakes work, battery charge for dump trailer. I've checked fuses under dash and under hood. Everything checks out. I'm Stumped.

Have a 2008 F-450 that I just got and the trailer light outlet does not work. There is constant power to one pin and nothing on the tail/turn/stop pins. I have checked all of the fuses and relays and they seem to been fine. And yes, I did a search and did not come up with anything.

How does the truck know that there is a trailer connected?
With my cab-over camper and no trailer as soon as I go to reverse the back up alarm goes off. I thought I would wire in a marker light to the trailer brake circuit but that didn't do it, maybe not enough resistance? The truck still says no trailer.
How I can fool the system so that when I load the camper it looks like a trailer to the truck?

Well, it seems the cover on my trailer connector got broken off. The cover locks the trailer plug into the truck side. The connector on the truck is/was supplied by Ford. Now the dealer say NLA, only 2005 and up. Truck is 99 F250 SD. Plug is 4/7 way. Where can I locate a direct plug-in replacement? I do not want to be cutting and splicing.

I am looking at getting my new truck, my 05 F350 6.0, with factory trailer brake controller, all set up for a gooseneck. I was wondering if there was an OEM kit to add a trailer connection plug to the inside of the bed? If there is, what are the part number(s)?

Not working at plug.
I see there is right turn/stop relay.
Does this relay ever go bad?
All other trailer lights work.

My 2011 f250 has 92k miles, I want to change all 16 spark plugs.
Do the 6.2l plugs have problems breaking like the 3v engines did?
I think I'm going to pull the passenger fender liner to get to the lower plugs in the head.
How does the coil pigtail unclip? I looked at them briefly earlier and it looks like you pull the red tab back, then press down and pull on the pigtail but that did not work and I did not want to break anything.

I need to identify these random plugs under my dash. I think they might be for some sort of alarm or remote start unit and they seem to be tapped into the ignition wires. Suspiciously like remote start plug wires but I can't figure out what unit they would be for?

The door on my trailer plug is broken. I can't seem to find just the door. Need to get one without having to buy the whole plug assembly?

So the other weekend I hooked up to my buddys landscaping trailer, everything was fine until I plugged in the harness, No Lights...no big deal cuz it wasn't much of a drive, but I gotta haul a boat tomorrow a little ways and Id like to be legal.
I need cleaning my trailer plugs. What is the best way to clean the terminals on the small 4 prong? The big plug is fine, just a little dirt inside the cover, but I am still going to clean the contacts and put di-electric grease on them.

I've just bought a new 2016 SD xlt. The only extra I wanted that is missing is the factory trailer brake controller. The dealer told me it had to be programmed. I was expecting plug and play and planned to do it myself till they told me that. Is this true?

A week ago last Saturday I bought a 2006 F250 Lariat Crew Cab with the 6.0 and 4WD. The truck is really clean and only has 68,000 miles on it. Here's my question: I needed to tow a boat today and I discovered I have no power, at all, at the trailer light plug receptacle. Nothing at the 7-pin nor the flat-4. I looked through the manual and checked every fuse that had the word trailer associated with it and I can also feel the turn signal relays clicking with the flashers on.
Am I missing something really simple or do I just need to follow the wire harness from the back and look for something that is not connected? It seems kind of weird for it to be just....dead.

Have recently been getting a "TBC Fault" message and the Beep, as the message goes on and off(annoying) looked around think its the Controler itself,,If I move the slider, and Jiggle it,,the message Blinks on and off as I move the Slider,,,Looking for the method of removing it from the Cubby Hole,,,Gave it a tug,,,and wiggle did not move must have a Clip or Tab to release it.

The pigtail from my bumper mounted 7-pin to the factory connector is all hacked up from the previous owner so I'm looking to replace that pigtail. Also wondering if there should be 2 connectors down there to add a connector for my gooseneck or do I need to splice another universal 7-pin into the bumper light pigtail? Also, is there another (preferably slightly cheaper) option besides e-trailer for such a connector?

This past weekend I loaded up my 3 horses on my trailer and found out going down a hill that my trailer brakes aren't coming on and tracked this down to a problem with the truck. Need to troubleshoot this before taking it to a dealer to check wiring problems for shorts somewhere.
What doesn't work: trailer brakes not getting any power to the brakes. When I first pulled out the truck had error message popping up saying Trailer wiring fault and once in a while that would disappear then come back on and once or twice went to Trailer disconnected. My friends hooked up my trailer to their truck and the brakes worked on the trailer.
What's working: turn signals and brake lights coming on in the trailer.
What we checked so far: fuses, sprayed truck plug with wd40 on the pins. The brake pedal not activating the brakes and tried just the slider bar on the ford integrated brake control box.
Background: brakes were working fine back in October. December hauled them a short distance and didn't notice any braking problem but road was mainly flat and when coming down a small grade they seemed fine but I was going slow also. Back in January, I took the truck to a Firestone to get general maintenance work done on it including truck brakes checked for wear and tear and they had to replace the truck battery.
Where does the truck ground wire go to in the truck to ground it out? All that I can find is that it has to go to some pure metal, no painted surface but can't find anywhere on where to check this out on the truck to see if it is still making contact. Could the guys at Firestone have not hooked something back up or knocked it. The last thing that I would like to look at before getting the wires all tested. I have a 2008 F250, gas

I'm still fighting tow harness problems on my '01 F 250. I started by replacing the 7-way pig tail with a new one which didn't work. Then I undid all the butchering of the harness that was done previously. The factory harness had scotch locks all over it that were used to splice in a 6-way and a 7-way into the bed. I liquid taped all the nicks in the wires. Then I checked for power at the factory harness end where the pigtail plugs in. I have park/running lights, and one of the ports flashes for the left turn signal/flashers/stop lamps. I got rained on before I could check further up the wire. If I have no power to the wire further up is there another place to check?

I have a 2005 Ford F-250. I have checked power to the rear harness and all is good except for the tail/running lights.
Is there a fuse for the tail lights? I have checked the manual and don't see one called out. And the relays under the hood are labeled stop lights/turn signals and those are working fine.
I will see if I can trace the brown wire from the rear harness backwards, but it may be a simple fuse.

Any info if the "Aux" terminal on the trailer harness wiring on '01 F250s is for reverse lighting? I'd like to put some on my stock trailer. Also, is the "12v" terminal feed switch operated or hot always?
