I just picked up a 05' F450 Super-Duty it had the rear seat removed and the rear wall, under the window is bare metal. I have all kinds of road noise and dust coming in through the two vents on the back wall. How to fix this?
View 6 RepliesI bored and tapped one of the spark plug holes in my Triton engine. And I used a long aluminum rod attachment for my air compressor to blow out the metal bits from inside the cylinder. I started with a full tank of air, and used it all up to try and get everything out that I could. But with my bore-scope I could see a lot left over along the edges of the piston. So two more times I filled up, and emptied the air tank (15 gallons, 150psi). Some more of the chips came out, but after the second time there were still some chips there, and the third time didn't work much.
My bore-scope doesn't have the best resolution, but I think there are a few chips that are stuck between the piston and the cylinder wall. Since there were only a few, and they are aluminum, I decided to do what I saw another youtuber do. I just started the engine for a few moments without the spark plug, so I might blow out any remaining chips (although he did it without first using compressed air at all.)
That was the first cylinder I bored, tapped, and installed an insert into. But for the other cylinders, I would like to avoid any metal bits left in the cylinder. But I can't think of any way to prevent some from wedging themselves between the piston and wall (if that's what is happening).
I have a super duty with the 5.4 in it. it just quit while off road n wouldn't start back up. pulled it back to camp, wiggled wires around cam n crank sensors n it fired up n stalled numerous times then just wouldn't even fire back up. loaded on trailer n brought home, buddy put his tester on there n said there was no rpm reading so I replaced the crank sensor, it fired up n stalls still. wires seem to be good to crank n cam sensors. don't have a manual to tell me what relays are what.

We just got back from a 3800 mile vacation. Its been going on now for about 3 weeks and never changes...

View 10 RepliesI have a 2005 Ford F-250 Diesel 6.0 my ac works fine but after working a while the air quits coming out of the vents. It happens every time I go on a long trip with the ac or heater. Is like if a duct damper closes because I can hear the motor blower going. The entire ac system is new but it was doing this with the old system....
View 5 RepliesMy 1999 F 250 5.4 liter. I know I have a vacuum leak because whenever I accelerate the air conditioning coming from the vents switches to the defroster. So my question is how do I go about finding the leak? My hubs in the front are manual so I know I don't have lines going up there. I do have some mechanical capabilities I've changed water pumps alternators brakes etc. But never anything with vacuum lines or a/c.

I am starting to hear and feel more road noise and rattling when going over bumps or a rough road. U think they would have used polyurethane bushings instead of rubber.
Noticed this morning that the truck appears to have a screeching/grinding noise while going straight down the road. If I go a bit of speed and stop the engine and exhaust from revving and making noise and just let it roll I can hear it and hear it better by sticking my head out my window. My engine and 5" straight pipe hide it well while im going though. I think its coming from my front driver side but im not 100% exactly sure. What it could be? I know there are a lot of variables to cover but any ways to check things out? Also! I can hear it slightly while reversing slowly.
View 8 RepliesEarlier this week I pulled out my right axle shaft and found the outer portion of the Spicer two piece seal attached to the axle, the part number on the seal is 52148. The axle tube is dry, no signs of the seal leaking. I need to remove that seal from the shaft to install a new outer dust seal. Can that seal be removed with a 3 jaw pulled then get reinstalled, or can I get a new 53148 and install that portion with out removing the carrier. I am not set up where I sit right now to pull both axles.
View 2 RepliesI have after market chrome wheel and stock brake pads. The brake pad dust is corroding the chrome. Is their a brake pad I can use so it doesn't happen? Ive been told ceramic pads is the way to go.. The wheels are RBPs. Have a new set of RBPs coming in to replace, also what about pad covers? I tow a 29' boat and the rest is highway miles..
View 7 RepliesSo my truck is making a rapid clicking type of noise out of the vents when the ac is turned on.
The noise sounds like a thin piece of paper getting hit by a fan (that's what I hear) It started during this past winter when I would cold start the truck. but as the heater warmed up it went away completely. well now since its warm out I am running the ac now, and it blows cold but doesn't have a lot of volume to it it seems. but being the problem was when the truck was cold running the cold ac makes the noise permanent.
The blend door acutator is working as should (i can only assume the blend door is ok) the vacuum lines are good and vacuum signal is good.
When my truck is parked, I go to the rear tire and shake it back and forth and hear a slight clunking noise from either the tire or rear end. Its like the axle is making the noise?
2000 7.3 Power Strke Super Crew 4x4
On my 2007 f250 ext cab long bed when I got home tonight and parked it in the driveway I noticed a cracking or tapping noise coming from the right rear of the truck around the hub area. I bought the truck about a month ago from a ford dealer. The truck has 111k on it and runs pretty good. I have also noticed when I back the truck up a short distance and then put it drive and start to go forward that there is a slight popping noise coming from the rear end. I have had the carrier bearing checked and dealer says its good. What this might be. Could it be a sticky brake caliper?
View 6 RepliesWith my A/C turned up on max A/C and fan speed set on highest setting, I get very little air movement through the air vents. I have been told that starting with 2000 year models, there is a filter on the A/C fan motor. If this is true, I am sure mine needs to be changed. Looking for procedure/schematics for removal and change.
View 14 RepliesI've got a 2016 250 6.2l and am getting a popping sound coming from the transmission area. the following is what i have figured out so far. the noise is made just before a complete stop, just as the tranny down shifts to 1st and can be felt through the manual floor shifter 100% of the time and heard roughly 90% of the time. sound ranges from not audible to loud and is random in how loud it is. the only way it does not do this is if i come to a stop in neutral or i go slow enough as not to have the tranny shift out of first from my last stop. the only other way is if i do one of those long, slow rolling stops. truck only has 6600 miles on it. i will be taking it in at 7500 for first service and have them look at it ...
View 1 RepliesA few months ago I bought a used 2006 F350 superduty with manual/ auto 4x4. For the last few months I have had an intermittent moaning noise coming from the wheels. It happens when going at slow speeds (under 30mph) I have checked all calipers and made sure none were frozen. Brake pads have at least 75% life in them. I put the truck in neutral to spin all tires by hand and try to replicate the sound.
The front seem to spin easy. The drivers rear will spin but is hard to move and the passenger side I can barely move (I'm assuming it's because it's the drive tire? I believe it has something to do with the rotation of the tire because when driving it moans in intervals. Like it's at a certain point in the rotation something is rubbing. How to troubleshoot further? When going through parking lots it is quite noisy and I can feel the running in my brake pedal.
2002 5.4L... I have a humming noise that comes from my engine and wanted to see if any of yall knew anything about it. I sounds like it's on the other side on the driver side firewall near the brake booster. Once the engine runs for a bit it tends to start then. It'll start to hum then ill tap the gas to get the RPMs up a bit then its gone for couple miles then its right back on.
View 2 RepliesWith the front hubs locked locked I get a ticking noise out of the front axle almost like there is rocks in the hubcaps. But unlock the hubs and the noise goes away. Also, if I put it in 4 wheel with the hubs unlocked i get no noise.
View 12 Replies01 F350...4R100/V-10/4wd. Sometimes get a vibration driving down the road. First thought of tire out of balance but then the vibration goes away and may not come back for a few days or more. It starts sometimes around 30-40 mph and stays all the way up to around 65 mph. Even slowing down it vibrates or shakes. I can stop and take off again with nothing happening. Would think tires out of balance would do it all the time. And a few times....pulling my 5th wheel...making a right turn out of a parking lot.....it feels like a rumble from the rear.
View 2 RepliesMy F-350 is only blowing hot air out of the passenger side vents, and not the drivers side. Could it be a vacuum leak or a an electrical issue? How could you troubleshoot this to find out what the problem is?
