I have a ford f350 2000 7.3 powerstroke. I changed out the powrstwering hose because there was no powersteering. now my brake pedal is easy to push and don't have brakes. Reservoir stays full so I'm not leaking any.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2002 f350 Super duty, 7.3. After I changed out the power steering box, I did bleed the system, I have now power steering and the brakes are very spongy. Any thing to check prior to replacing the booster? I have been told the power steering is probably just an alignment issue and I should bleed the brakes.
View 3 RepliesStarting about a year ago, "sometimes" when I step on the brakes and am turning the steering wheel, I loose the power steering. I took it to Ford and they said that this is a a known issue but they didn't say what it would take to fix it. Because this problem is intermittent it is very hard to get this fixed unless the mechanic can experience and verify the problem for himself...
View 14 RepliesOn the surface, the F-250/350 seems to have great brakes: big rotors, vented front and rear, and dual-piston calipers front and rear. But, I have two problems:
One is the annoying 'grunt' the brakes make every time you change from Park to Drive, or Park to Reverse, or Drive to Reverse. Its as if under normal brake pressure, the brakes cannot hold the truck from moving against the torque convertor engaging. It's not just my truck, I've heard older SD's with the 5.4L or diesel do this too. If you push the pedal really hard, it won't grunt.
The second problem I think is the root of the first: mushy brakes. Maybe I'm just used to driving european cars with firm brakes, but every time I apply my truck's brakes, it feels like I need to bleed the system! The truck does slow pretty well, and I realize it's heavy, but how can the pedal feel be improved? Maybe replacing the rubber sections with braided stainless?
Lastly, the truck has a 'hill-hold' feature which is retarded in an automatic transmission. My problem with it, is that sometimes it sticks on...engage drive, the truck won't move...a second later its like something gets unstuck and the truck kind of lurches forward.
Bought my truck in April and it has basically sat in my driveway until I sell one of my other vehicles. I've started it every 2-3 weeks and let it run for about 1/2 hour each time. I've had to charge the batteries once (about 2 months ago) when they were low and wouldn't start the truck.
I've also moved it out of the driveway several times (about 50 feet - moving forward and reversing) when having to make room for other vehicles. I noticed last weekend when I started it up, there was a bit of a whine coming from under the hood ... it wasn't too loud. I didn't move it that time ... just let it warm up ... again for a 1/2 hour.
This morning I went to move it again for a service vehicle. It was cool outside (about 32 degrees). There was a loud moaning and groaning this time every time I moved the steering wheel. I sat on the street idling and the same moaning happened when I touched the brakes and didn't move the steering wheel. The steering also felt stiffer than usual (although I don't have a good feel for "normal" as I haven't really driven this truck except when I brought it home in April covering 1,000 miles ... it had no symptoms or issues then).
I'm hoping it's just from sitting so long without really being driven but I'm feeling that something is binding or perhaps there is a problem with the power steering.
I use a bottle hanging like an I.V. drip to flush the Brake Fluid in all my cars. I can pump all the old fluid out, as well as the air. My Superduty 7.3 has a good solid brake pedal after the flush. It seems to me the rear brakes handle 60% of the stopping load. Its been like this for so long I'm not sure if it's ever been different. i then go to a gravel or wet road and test the rear abs, and it seems o work, but definitely has a squirrely feel. I did some strong pavement stops with speed, and it stops, no skidding. Is that the way it should be?

View 2 RepliesI have a question about my new to me 2006 F-250 CC, 4x4. Resource the 12-volt accessory supply wire that goes to pin #4 on the 7 pin trailer connector? We have interior lights in our enclosed race trailer and it's a bit of a pain to have to turn the key on to use the lights. Just don't want to run a direct fused wire from the battery to the plug if I don't have to.
View 3 RepliesI've noticed when I'm towing, on long down hill grades if I touch the brakes I get what feels like a rotor causing the steering wheel to shake. At first it was only mild, but today on a long 6% grade it got really bad. Never does it on a level road, I've tried to duplicate it, only on a long down hill grade, and I'm not getting a pulse in the brake pedal at all, only the shake in the steering wheel. It's probably time to replace the pads anyhow, and I'll check the rotors. What things to look at?? 2006 F350, 6.0 dually 4x4.....
View 2 RepliesWas moving a boat on a trailer with surge brakes and found I could not back it up. Found that I had no power on the center pin on the round 7 seven trailer connector.
When backing this type of trailer the back up light power opens a solenoid that keeps the brakes from working in reverse. Don't know how long its been like this because this is the first time I moved this trailer. The question is where is the fuse and or relay for this. The back up lights on the truck do work.

View 2 RepliesAll of a sudden steering is WAY to easy i can flip it one way or the other with my finger. Front end is tight no lose tierods etc and no play in steering box when you turn it the steering turns immediately.
Thinking power steering is going bad maybe over pressure? Repair will be a pain has central hydraulics lines all in way. 2000 F450 7.3 ....
My 02 F350 steering lost all resistance. I can almost spin the steering wheel to each stop. What would cause that? Recent front brake rotor/caliper/pad replacement is the only thing the truck has had done since I've owned it. (2 months now). It's way too loose to be safe.

View 9 Repliesi have a 2006 F250 XLT 5.4L 4x4 Crew Cab. after months of dealing with an ongoing power steering issue and replacing pumps left and right, i decided to replace the entire power steering system. Ordered Gearbox, Pump and Cooler from dealership. The install went fairly easy, and finished in 2 days.
The truck used to whine and grind as i would turn wheel any direction, driving or in park and the wheel used to pull , like jerk a bit when i would go like in a u-turn.
Not anymore, all those issues are gone. Steers straight , no whining , wheel doesn't pull anymore and all seems fine, EXCEPT when i take a turn , for example onto a driveway where its a bit of an incline. Then, i hear some grinding noise and a bit of vibration in my wheel. I think it comes from gearbox or pump.
Im scared not to drive it too much as all is new components and don't want to ruin all over again.
I have been having trouble with my 2002 F250 SD, the steering at low RPM is next to impossible.. If i put it into N I can rev the engine and it gets "easier" but not very. I do not want to replace the pump and find out that it wasn't the problem...
View 9 RepliesI have a 1999 f350 7.3 diesel. If I apply the brakes when I am not moving it is almost impossible to move the steering wheel. I have flushed power steering system. This problem has gotten worse over the corse of owning the truck for the last 10 years. Ball joints and u joints are good. Had to change power steering cooler a few years back, rusted out line, really got gradually from there.
View 9 RepliesSo recently i blew a seal in my steering gear box. I replaced the unit with a reman and per napa put in power steering fluid. I am pretty sure i was supposed to use atf (my dumb fault for not researching that) so now my question is whats the correct way to flush the system? Also what fluid should go back in the system? This is a non hydro boost setup. Setup is a 2002 f350 v10.
