Just did a drop an refill of my trans fluid. Put in a little under 8 qts.
My question is where should the fluid read ? Is half way between full and E good or should it be right up to the line ?
Obviously I'm reading it while trans is warm and in nuetral, engine running
My 1999 super duty v10 has thrown a code but my scanner and a mechanics scanner won't power up and read the code, I also noticed that the cigarette lighter is dead. Which fuse controls both the plug and the lighter?
View 3 RepliesHere is my situation. A month or so ago when it got cold out consistently I got a rough idle after start up.. CEL. Code read P0355, cylinder 5 misfire. Removed plug to check it. All was good, I put everything back together (anti seize, dielectric greased) So I replaced coil. It went away. This week got very cold and Code P0355 and flashing CEL. Drove for a mile or so and it went away. So I'm thinking vacuum leak, Intake gasket, egr valve or warped intake manifold?
View 11 RepliesI have a 2001 F350 and the temp read-out on the mirror hasn't worked since I got the truck in 2004. Where the sensor is. I found a connector on the back side the core support on the driver's side that has nothing plugged in. Could this be where it should be?

View 4 Replies04 f250, 5.4 ,90,000mi. Checked my oil today and saw this white flaky crap on the dipstick its salt, probably from a broken dipstick tube, probably broken at the manifold right where there was a huge deposit salt right on top. The manifold is leaking anyway I was hoping to wait till spring when everything dries out and warms up a little bit, but with salt getting into the engine I think I have to do it now. Is there any way to deflect moisture off the road away from the exhaust manifolds?
View 4 RepliesMy 2016 Ford F-250 has 14,000 miles on it. I took it in for its second oil change today and came away with big problems. When the mechanic pulled the dipstick out he found it covered with a guncky dirt like material. He said he had never seen anything like it. He changed the oil and checked it again with more gunk coming out. I drove it to the nearest Ford house where a mechanic pulled the dipstick out and found the same thing. He said that he had never seen anything like it. Every time he pulled the dipstick out, it had more coated on it.
View 6 RepliesOK, so I have a 01 f350sd and i went to check my oil and the dipstick tube itself is so rusted it snapped in half so I took it to the dealer which I knew was going to be over priced labor but still checked the tube itself is 20 dollars but labor is upwards of 300-500... My engine is the 5.4 triton.
View 2 RepliesI recently bought a 2005 Ford F250 Super Duty, diesel 6.0.
As I was driving to work this morning I noticed that the fuel gauge read almost full when it should have only had a half tank. A little while later I heard a beep and saw that the gauge was now on empty with a "Low Fuel" message displayed. Then I noticed the heater was suddenly blowing cold air.
I've only had the truck for a few weeks, but haven't had any other problems. I did replace the CD receiver and all of the instrument cluster lights a couple weeks ago, but everything seemed to be working fine after.
I just finished putting a 7.3 back in one of our f450 plow trucks today, so then i moved onto our 2001 F250 5.4 plow truck. The dipstick tube was rusted in half so i pulled on the remaining half to get it out and put in the new dipstick. However, it broke off at the block. So now i cannot see how to get the rest out with out doing a lot more work. I haven't removed the splash guard yet but will i have to remove the manifold , the oil filter base, or both?
View 14 RepliesI had a 2014 F-250 I bought new. Absolutely loved the truck. Things got tight so I decided to sell it yesterday. I'm now looking at a 2005 F-250 with 113k miles. It's got a lift, 37" tires, DPF delete, pretty sure the EGR delete but not sure exactly what to look for under the hood. A ton of LED light bars, SCT tuner, I was told its bulletproofed by a dealer, and it's a king ranch. It runs great. I plan on having a diesel mechanic look it over but here are my concerns. It does have a slight bit of blow by coming from dipstick. Very little. Also a slight oil leak that looks like it's coming from the bell housing so maybe rear seal?
View 14 Repliesquick question about tranny Temps. My truck is a 16 F250 CCSB 4x4 6.2. I just moved to North Carolina from Florida. It is 100+ degrees every day and my transmission maintains a range from 196 to 203. I know that is perfectly normal.
We were driving around NC yesterday (unloaded) and the Temps outside were in the high 60's. We were in the truck for a total of 2 hours so everything was up to temp. My transmission was ranging from 190-199. I thought the transmission thermostat keeps the tranny at least 196.
So my question for the cooler weather guys...is it normal for your tranny to get as low as 190 during normal operating temps?
I am not positive where it could be but I have a good bit of oil on the transmission (i think) i was trying to replace the strarter and noticed it. Where the possible leak could be from? No oil on the ground under the truck.

I have no problem rebuilding the transmission if that's what it needs, I just want to make sure there isn't a electrical issue from the PCM first?
View 14 RepliesYesterday my transmission on my work truck decides to fail. 2003 Ford F350 7.3 diesel auto with 4wd, 85k
Started the truck to allow it to warm up. We have been getting 38 to 45 degree weather. Proceeded to drive the truck for about 8 miles and come up to a red light and stopped. When the light changes to green, I hit the accelerator and the motor just free revs. Look down to make sure that the truck is in drive. No go.
I did check the following, I have no leaks whats so ever. I checked the auto tranny oil level and that was fine. The check engine light did not come on. I checked to make sure that the 4wd system was not engaged nor sitting in neutral. No warning signs or noises, the tranny was pulling normal up until I stopped,' All gears are showing the same signs. When you move the gear selection to all the other gears, it seems as if it's disconnected.
Before when I changed from drive gear to reverse gear I would place my foot on the brake and change to a different gear. You would get a slight hesitation knowing the gear was selected. Now when I move the gear I do not get anything. This has me baffled. I really like this truck and has been pretty much been trouble free.
The truck is a 2012 f250 6.2 flex fuel from alberta canada. This isn't the first tranny form out there that I've heard do this. Tranny seems fine shifts all right just a whine while accelerating.
View 7 RepliesTruck is slipping in/out of gear in 3rd gear. Shut it off and the problem may not come back for several days, but in general it is getting more frequent. No codes are registering for the transmission. Curious the wisdom of performing a simple fluid/filter change vs taking it to the transmission shop. Fluid basically looks/smells good, and is full.

Replacing these lines? I don't care about breaking the old one, but I still need to find a way to install the new one.
Can I take the tranny out of a v10 and put it in my 7.3L Powerstroke?
Both are 1999 f250's.
From what I've read they should both be 4r100's.
With the colder temperature, I noticed the temperature for the transmission is not getting up to normal as quickly as before. Yesterday I switched to gauge mode and it showed 145 degrees after 20 miles of driving at an outside temperature of 42 degrees. What the minimum temperature should be? It's not showing a check engine light and shifts good.
View 8 RepliesI have replaced both the transmission lines except the one that connects the two. It is the one near the top of the transmission that is about a foot long and goes from the fitting of the one transmission line to the other fitting for the other line. My questions is how do I remove it? It seems to be permanently affixed to the fittings, so those it come attached to new fittings?
