View 6 RepliesI have a hard shift between 2-3 that is somewhat violent. It doesn't matter the rpms or how hard I'm accelerating, it will always do it. At wot, it sometimes throws a code that stays on for a few minutes, then goes away. When I hook up a code reader, it shows no record of it and it never throws a blinking OD light ever.
It has an ATS transmission, but I don't know how the controller works, if it is wired correctly, or if it could even cause this issue. Currently the truck has 210k and unknown on ATS.
Bought 02 350 DRW, started hard first day, now not cranking. Seen a post on neutral transmission switch and mine is not lining up, but need to adjust the rod out of transmission also? I was able to match lines on switch but with flanges on fitting it will move back out of place when moving it to fit in bolts.
View 4 RepliesI have an issue with my 6.0 that no one can figure out. It has been happening for about 3 years. After accelerating hard, motor will rev out like it just popped out of gear. It is still in drive and the edge cts says 4th gear usually. I have to let off the pedal and coast a bit and everything "sync's" up again and works fine. It can happen from a hard launch from a light or get on the freeway. I recently put an ATS transmission in because I figured solenoids were beginning to fail. Still does it. I am running innovative tunes with sct tuner. It had a Suncoast billet flex plate and ATS 5 star converter. I run Amsoil fluid, it is clean, red, and at the proper level. Truck has almost 80k miles. Also 37" tires and 4.88 gears. It has not done it while towing our 35' toyhauler, but I am easy on the pedal when I tow. I recently checked the transfer case and changed fluid to Amsoil. The old fluid looked good.
View 7 RepliesI've been having sporadic starting issues with my truck since the fall. I had the spark plugs changed but that did not work. The hard starts usually occur when the engine is hot....after filling gas or just running into the grocery store. The engine seems to turn over slowly the first try and won't start. The second or third try the engine turns over normally and the truck usually starts.
I just got back from a 90 minute drive and shut off the truck for 5 minutes and now it won't even turn over. My thought is that it can't be the battery....its been charging for 90 minutes. Headlights are strong, wipers work fast, fan blows hard. That being said I think alternator or battery can be ruled out?
Where do I look next? Starter? Is there a starter solenoid that could be defective?
I have a ford f350 super duty that has a little problem turning to the left but is really hard to turn to the right. How do I fix this?

View 7 RepliesMy '01 f250 7.3 has gotten hard to start. It seems to maybe be due to cooler weather, but not always. I have been told that there is some sort of valve in the fuel tank that could possibly cause this when the fuel gets around a 1/4 tank or so. But, it's doing it at any fuel level. But it doesn't do it all the time. I do notice it more in cooler weather. Anyway, when I try to crank it, I'll let the "wait to start" light go off and then wait a bit more. I'll turn it over and it almost as if the batteries are weak.
I'll stop and give it a few seconds and turn it again and it will normally start. But sometimes I'll do this 5 or 6 times and it will finally fire. But the more I have to try, it's like fuel builds in the cylinders and it smoke like a coal train for a minute or so. Almost like gas motor that has been flooded. But the smoke burns off and it runs like a top. I was thinking the batteries may be weak , but sometimes the starter will spin the motor with no trouble at all. I'm at a loss. Is it possible for fuel to drain from the system causing it to have to reprime itself? Here lately the smoking has me concerned even though it clears up.
My 02 ford V10 is hard starting. If I start it every day, it will start and run well. If I let it sit longer than one day I need to spray some starting fluid to get it to run. I turn the key on and let it pump up before I try to start it. After it starts with starting fluid, and runs for a minute or so it will start up with no problem.
View 14 RepliesThe tranny is shifting really hard between 2 and 3 if I feather the throttle it can be a little less of a jolt but still enough none the less iv never done a filter and fluid change as I just got it it has 235000 miles 99 v10 super duty 4x4....
View 8 RepliesRecently purchased a 99 F250 SD w/ V-10 Triton which purrs like a kitten and drives great until I turn it off and then re-start. It has trouble re-starting and then when started and put in drive...won't go anywhere. Zero power. Oddly, in reverse it goes. Getting decent flow from exhaust. No vacuum leaks I can find. No check engine light on either. Strange.
View 7 RepliesI own a 2011 f-250 superduty, and have been having a problem with the steering, it goes from normal to lost of assist. Real hard to steer and dangerous. Then it will go away for a month, then start again. Some one on this site told me to flush the system which I did and it was fine for a month. A friend at a local ford dealer told me they had contamination in the system and I had to replace pump, reservoir, and flush system again....
View 10 RepliesRecently I have had an issue with my auto which was just rebuilt. About 500 kays after i picked it up it shifts dangerously hard and immediately into all gears at around 20-40 mph, converter also locks immediately. The speed sensor in the box was replaced with the rebuild but I'm having it replaced again this thursday just in case.
Just for the record I cooked it on the beach a while back, the speed sensor was replaced with the rebuild as it was doing the above, the od light also flashes when this occurs, before and after the rebuild.
Prior to cooking it never had an issue.
What could be causing it? I'm starting to worry it cant be fixed, have done a google and tried a couple of things mentioned. Code says wiring issue associated with speed sensor in box.
.I just changed out all the steering linkages due to a lot of slop and worn out tie rod ends. This problem existed before I changed them but I thought for sure changing the linkages would fix it. When I brake hard my front tires wobble very bad. I haven't ever experienced the death wobble that is common in these trucks, but the symptoms seem the same, its just only when I brake hard. I can look at my front left tire while braking hard and see it wobbling. The wheel bearings and ball joints only have about 15k miles on them. I can't tell if the front wheels are moving independent of each other back and forth, or if they are both shaking back and forth together. What might cause this? it's a super uneasy feeling when it happens, especially because whenever you are braking hard there is usually a reason.

View 9 RepliesI started to notice my battery light comes on during a hard acceleration. So I have been keeping track of it. When the rpm's hit 3200 and above the light comes on bright but never at any other time. I put a volt meter on it and I have 13.4 volts at an idle, as the engine revs up the voltage climes to 13.9 then when it hits the 3200 mark voltage drops right off to 12.4. It seems like a regulator issue to me. The parts store says my 5.4 has an external regulator is that so or is it built right into the alternator?

My issue is I have a shift problem from 3-5. This doesn't happen when I'm granny driving, only under a hard acceleration. The problem is the tranny doesn't seem like it wants to upshift. RPM goes up but the truck doesn't accelerate unless I let off the gas. I have changed the fluid and filters every 20k since I got the truck (150k). This problem came up after I changed my fluid and filter a couple days ago.
This time I changed to Mercon LV because I couldn't find Mercon SP (which is okay according to ford TSB). I used Valvoline max life ATF which said it was Mercon LV compliant. So is this the fluid type (multi ATF, Mercon LV compliant) or a bad solenoid from my understanding it would be the direct drive solenoid? Or am I SOL?
I have a 1997 f-250 heavy duty with the 7.3 I have been having problems with very aggressive and hard shifting. While it is acting up the overdrive light on the shifter blinks. This problem goes away and it might be good for a month or so, But it always comes back. I have had it to a professional trans tech, He replaced a part on the side of the tranny. I thought it was fixed, But now it is acting up again.
View 4 RepliesI have a 1999 f250 sd with the 7.3. I'm not sure what is going on with my pickup. When I turn to the right i can turn with one finger, but when I turn left i have to put some muscle into it. Power steering fluid is full. I raised the front end and it turns both ways easy. My ball joints feel fine, there is no tire shake when i have it off the ground. My tie rods feel fine also, nice and tight. I was thinking about replacing the steering sector to see if thats the issue but wanted to get a second opinion first.
View 2 Replies06 F250 6.0 with only 65,xxx miles on it. This has happened twice and both times the engine was warm and had been cut off for less than 10 min.. When I tried to crank it back up it stumbled and idle roughly then cut off. After several attempts to re-crank it still would idle rough and I tried to give it fuel but no change, even with pedal fully depressed. Then it would die.
After sitting a few minutes it starts normal. Both times I didn't have my obd2 adapter for my torque pro. The last time it happened I went home and hooked it up and got no codes. Everything looked fine. What could it be, where should I start looking. Batteries are1.5 years old. Oil, oil filter, and both fuel filter changed about 1000 miles back. I have had the truck for 1.5 years and the oil has been changed twice.
My blower doesn't seem to blow very hard. I've been in other fords and the ac and heat blows great. Someone suggested that that I pull the fan motor and clean the blades.
