Why there is an electric cord running to my rear view mirror?

View 5 RepliesI went to get my front window tinted and the place didn't have the "tool" to remove the rear view mirror and they did not want to get very aggressive with the mallet in fear of breaking the windshield. Has anyone bene able to get any of the "home methods" to work? I contacted a couple of local auto window repair places and they said they wouldn't do it because the windshield "ALWAYS" breaks.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2006 F250 and the other morning I came out and found the rear view mirror laying on the cab floor. No biggie, I'll just glue it back on. Then I noticed the small black decal looking thing on the inside of the windshield. My question is, does this have to come off in order to re-install the mirror with standard Permatex mirror adhesive, or do I just put adhesive on top of it? Also, is there a different, specific adhesive used here that won't crack the windshield 2 weeks from now, like I read. Took a closer look and realized they used a thin adhesive patch to attach the mirror. I'll get one from the dealer.
View 3 RepliesI bought a 2011 F250 with nav and backup camera. the backup camera only shows in the rear view mirror and NOT in the nav screen. How to program it to show in the nav screen also?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2000 F-350 diesel and the electric vacuum pump went out. I bought a new one from napa and it would not stop pumping. Checked for leaks and found none. If I unplug the hose from the vacuum can the next day, you can hear it suck air so it seems I am holding vacuum. Problem is I burnt out the new pump in two weeks from running all the time. Bought another one and same problem.
So now I plug the electrical in and let it build up vacuum for a couple of minutes and then disconnect it so it won't burn out and I am good for days on vent controls and 4x4. If there has been a bad batch of pumps out there? I also unplugged the hose from the pump to the holding tank and put my finger over where the pump sucks and it still did not shut off.
I'm putting a new double din stereo w/ backup camera in my truck, I have everything wired except the violet/white wire (from the stereo) that needs to be hooked to a wire (on the truck) that will activate the camera when you put it in reverse. I cannot figure where this wire is on the 2012 for the life of me.

Where is the cord to plug in to heat injectors on this model? Or does this model not come with the cord to plug in?
So my driver side map light went out, went and replace the lamp. Now I can't turn on the map light when I depress the lens on both front map lights. Both rear map lights don't work either when I flip the switch and the driver or passenger visor mirror doesn't turn on when I flip the mirror cover. Maps lights do come on when I open doors. Also my Home Link (garage door opener now doesn't work). It's throwing a P1260 code (Theft detected vehicle immobilized). Do this might be related to my light issue? Is there a fuse on relay that controls this that might be bad or something needs to be reset? I've looked at the fuses by the passenger floorboard and every thing looks good. Why this is happening?
View 1 RepliesMy mirror got banged and fell out. I put the mirror back on but now it won't go up and down. It will go right and left. I can't even push it with my hand. Perhaps electric mirror's can't be pushed by hand. I've never tried before. It's a 2010 Hyundai Elantra touring. Is there anything I can check or will I have to buy a new one.

No rear running lights or brake lights
No third brake lights
Headlights work
No signals or hazard.
I have power to the multifunction switch when I use a jumper wire to bypass the switch I can make the lights come on depending on which slot I put it in. I replaced the multifunction switch twice just to see if I got a new bad one the first time, but to no avail. I cant run my truck a night without the lights.
I put new batteries in the fobs, and my electric locks work using the buttons in the door.
Checked the key fobs at autozone.. they are ok.
Is there a training procedure for Ford OEM fobs?

I have a 1995 Ford f250 Powerstroke and i do not have turn signals, rear running lights, brake lights or reverse lights. i checked the fuses and they seem to be good but i dont want to tear everything out to check the harness if it could be a bad ground. any insight?
View 1 RepliesOkay, I've done a few topic searches and see some variations on this, but not this specific scenario. 2001 F-250 (5.4L, 4x4, auto). My daughter's truck and I wasn't home so this is the best info I have as relayed by her.
She turned the key off, the engine shut off, but all the "electrics" stayed on -- radio and a/c fan to be specific. She said that morning the truck had a dead battery so she got a jump start, leading one to suspect that the electrics stayed on the previous night as well. (?)
I had her disconnect the battery and let it sit until I got home. Of course, when I got home and reconnected the battery, everything works normally as it should. And has worked normally for a few days.
So.. any words of wisdom out there while we wait for "the next" occurrence?
Just got an inexpensive LED Stop/Turn/Taillight Bar my problem is it has (3) wires Red, Black and White while the available connection from the old bar has only (2) wires Black and White with Red Dots.
The wiring instructions for the new LED bar says (1) Attach black wire to tail lamp circuit(+), (2) Attach the Red wire to the stop/turn circuit(+) and (3) Attach white wire to a good ground(-) location.
How I should hook this up? My thought is Black to Black , Red to White with Red Dots and White to Frame metal.
2008 F 550 6.4L Diesel 2wd... Truck has a few interior elect systems not working. ALL fuses are good. Message center not working at all, HVAC fan not working, key/lights chime not working, and radio lights very dim. All of these problems started at once. Everything else on truck works fine.

The mirror defrost comes on with the rear window defrost, my question here is does the defrost image on the mirror light up when on?
I have a '12 F250 w/ 6.7 diesel. Lately when I turn off the ignition after a few seconds I hear a noise that sounds like a small electric pump coming from under the hood on the passenger side.
This also happened a while back but at the time the service people said they could not get it to do that and it eventually stopped.
The electric windows in the front seem to be very lazy. When you depress the button, it goes down slowly and eventually stops halfway. Does it need a lube?
View 1 RepliesIn the last 15k miles, I've replaced the led lights on my driver side mirror twice already, and come to see this morning: they are out again. The turn signal LEDs still work, but the parking lights don't work anymore. Passenger side is fine.
View 3 RepliesSo both the mirrors on my new truck are cracked. Driver side got hit, and the passenger side just doesn't respond, might just be a power thing. Anyways I'm wondering if there is any hassle to switch to a different style of superduty mirror? The 08 ones are really nice, if I can find a set for a decent price. Mine are just the basic ones, they look like half ton mirrors. I'm pretty sure they would just bolt in, and wiring really is no issue for me either. Just wondering if would encounter anything that might be an issue.
