I just purchased a F250 Gasser with the 6.2. I made sure to get it with the 4.30 rear to babl to tow a little better when i upsize the tires a little. Where I can find the drive output ratio from the transmission?
View 2 RepliesI just changed transfer case fluid on my father's F-350 for the first time in 13 years. (over 230k). Removed fill plug first and fluid gushed out of the fill hole unexpectedly. Did not have catch pan ready, so made a mess. I thought it was just over filled form the factory, but too much was coming out to be simple overfill. Almost 2 qt came out of the fill plug.
Did some google search and found many Ford trucks have failed transmission output shaft seal and transmission fluid leaks out to transfer case, causing transfer case to overfill. I am yet to check transmission fluid level, but considering how much came out of it that probably is the case.
Now, how bad of the problem this really is? Will overfilled transfer case cause some serious problem? 4x4 is rarely used (once or twice a year in winter) on this truck and from what I understand transfer case doesn't really do anything in 2WD other than just passing output from transmission through.
There are no fluid leaking outside and repairing the seal would be a too much of work for me.
Also changed rear differential fluid for the first time and I was surprised how clean the fluid was. There were thin layer of black sticky residue (sludge?) covering everything, but the fluid itself looked clean and no visible metal shavings. I guess that is why Ford said it does not require change under normal condition.
Just ordered a 2014 SD 250 FX4 CC SB 6.2L Lariat. I ordered it w/ the 3.73 axle ratio, but have two weeks to change it if I choose. Was wondering the pros and cons of both axle ratios. Going to be hauling a 16 foot tandem axle enclosed trailer with 7 dozen goose decoys and a four wheeler and other gear through corn fields 100 days a year. I'm fairly hard on trucks and this is my first ford I've owned myself, but have driven a lot of them at work. Basically need opinions on best axle ratio to get in and out of muddy, or snow covered fields.
View 14 RepliesI have a 1999 F250 super duty that blew a front seal on the transmission two weeks ago. I sent it to a shop and they replaced the seal, and torque converter. However when they put it back in it will not engage in drive or reverse. After working on it several days we replaced the transmission with another one from a service company. This replacement came with a 90 day warranty. However once it was installed it does the same thing and will not engage in drive, or reverse. I am not sure what is going on but with two doing the same thing it makes me thing maybe electrical or something else.
View 1 RepliesI have a 93 f250 4x4 with a 5.8 liter with 69 thousand miles.. the problem I'm having Is if I put It in drive it won't shift out of first but if I manually shift it from 1st to 2nd to drive it works but shifts very hard. Sometimes it will shift in drive but It shifts really hard. I don't know what It could be. We just put the transmisson back into the truck due to having to change a broken flywheel. It just don't Seem like it has any power...

View 11 RepliesI have a 2013 F450 Platinum and I love it. I would really like to get my gear ratio closer to 3.73 for fuel economy. Have not been able to find replacement ring and pinions to go to 3.73, so my only other option is to do it through changing tire size. I have 4.30 gears and based on what I have found, 37 inch tires will get me really close to the 3.73 ratio. I want to keep my truck as close to factory as possible, but I do want to do a leveling kit.
So can I fit 35x12.50x17 Toyo MT under my truck with just a leveling kit and use the stock rims? If not, what are my other options?
I have seen the option to swap to 22" shaved Alcoa's, but don't really want to go through all of the spacer/adapter stuff.
I have a 2006 F250 Lariat super Duty / 6.0 L engine / 143000+ miles / once started and transmission shifted into drive it takes 5 seconds or more for it to engage hard or if I build up the RMS then it jumps into gear hard, after it gets going it feels like I am driving on a washboard until it get warmed up good 10 mile or so. Is it the transmission filter and if so which one, I understand there is a small one on the outside of the transmission if so where? I can't find it.
View 14 RepliesI have a 99 f250 with some procomp (325s) that are 12.5 wide with a 6in lift my superchip tuner can change the trannys shift points but I am pretty sure a new gear ratio is needed. I dont do a whole lot of off roading with it its mainly my driving around and highway rig whats a good gear ratio that would work for me

I don't know which rear axle ratio it has - maybe someone can help me. the tires mounted are 275/60R17 and in fifth gear (TC locked) the engine has 2000rpm @ 70mph. I think it is a bit to much so I want to install a kit with and lower ratio. I pull trailers just sometimes and here in germany these only have 3,5tons max weight. So I think I don't need this power at 70mph. 1750rpm would be enough. How do I have to modify the front axle ratio if I get a lower-ratio-rear-axle?
I want to lower the fuel consumption. After some modifications, the truck needs round about 12-13L/100km (18-20mpg) and I think it is possible to lower this as bit.
I was trying to replace the output sensor in my 5r110 when it broke off in the housing.
View 7 RepliesI have an 08 F450 equipped with Ford integrated trailer brake controller. I tow between 6,000# and 14,000# machinery on a daily basis. I know the gain can be adjusted up to ten. I have noticed while braking "normal" The controller only outputs 1 green bar of power. Manually, the brakes on all my trailers don't grab untill around 3 bars of output. I find myself always sliding the manual lever to relieve the truck. The truck is suffering. I have the gain set to 10 just to get minimal result from the 1 bar output. I know my trailer brakes rock, they can stop the truck and trailer if needed. Can it be adjusted? How many bars are you folks getting with easy braking?
View 6 RepliesJust bought a 2011 F450 king Ranch. really like the truck but the heated seats a REALLY slow to warm up and then just warm. I see that these work different than all the other heated seats I have used and use the blower motor to blow warm or cool air through the seats instead of an element under the seat covers. Is there anything I can do to get more heat? The blower filters look ok and will replace the when I can find a set. Tries without the filter and didn't see much of an improvement. Where is the heat element and is it east to get to?

If I change the ring & pinion to 4:10 do I need to change the carrier or does my current carrier fit 4:10 & lower [4.63,4.88, 5.13 etc]? Will I need to adjust my speedo readings & if so how is this accomplished? Electronically via the diagnostic port?

Im having a problem with my front shaft turning while in 2 wheel drive. Hubs aren't locked and its in 2 wheel not 4. I've taken hubs off and the bearing spins free soo I know its in auto. Why is the drive shaft still turning???????
View 5 RepliesI've been tracking down all sorts of issues in my Excursion 4x4 lately and I have a few questions. I have an issue where everything is spinning as I drive even in 2wd. I gutted my hubs and removed the driveshaft. I had new u joints put in the front shaft today and re installed it. I still have the same issue of everything spinning while driving in 2. I had my marks move with the shaft in or out. I assume its getting toward front axle joint time. The shop owner said there should not be any movement in 2 but every SD I've seen has the axles spinning driving around town. I'm just confused because I have the entire driver side axle move when I spin the shaft by hand.

Note: ambient temp is 22F
Checked the EOF vacuum lines and pump but still have a problem. The EOF works and locks the hubs when I switch to 4x4 high, Easy to feel when you turn the wheels but it will not go into low. The light on the dash does not light up the word "low".
View 1 RepliesWhen I shift into 4Lo I get no 4 wheel drive. 4Hi works. Did have a/c redirect to defrost a couple of times. I remember something about the air redirecting having something to do with not having 4x4 but don't know just what it was.

My light on the overdrive is not coming on and the overdrive does not seem to be working. I had a new transmission installed a few weeks back. Wasn't working prior to this.
