Just noticed today, while taking slight right turns 20-40MPH, I get a really loud and angry chirping sounds? Its only right turns...It sounds like a forest of angry crickets.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2006 f250 lariat 192k no mods except k&n filter everything is stock. I have 2" pro comp level kit and a scan gauge 2 nothing fancy! Well the other day I noticed my truck was chirping like a Chirp chirp chirp...... Chirp chirp...... Chirp chirp chirp! It goes up and down with the rpm's but it's comes on and off only when the engine is up to running temps the belt does squeak during warm up but I don't think that's it, it's coming from the back of the engine I'm sure of it because I used a paper towel tube and listed right in the turbo hpop area on top of the engine but it's too hard to tell I can't find exactly where it's coming from, some people I've had listen think it's a belt or pulley or tensioner! But I'm not sure if it is because I've sprayed water, and wd40 on the belt and pulleys with no change!!! I'm afraid it's a lifter or something inside the engine yet it's too loud and pronounced to sound like it's coming from the inside! I'm just lost!
View 8 RepliesSo When driving around I'm hearing this squealing almost chirping noise and it sounds like its coming from the rear of the Truck. I greased the bushings and leafs but that didn't fix it, to me it sounds like a rotating noise. Don't think it's the brakes cause it makes the noise when driving not stop.
Also, a bad alternator would make noise while driving over 40+mph, like a loud whistle?

Bought a 2014 SD 4x4 in December of 2013 and this is the second time the big girl has been to the shop with A/C problems. First time it was the evaporator about three or four months ago. During the last few weeks of the summer I began to smell something strange (like band-aids) when the A/C was on and it lingered until the next re-entry. ALso, began to hear a slight hissing noise when the compressor was kicking in and out. They replaced the evaporator, smell remained as they said it was the refrigerant I was smelling. About two or three weeks ago the smell got slightly "larger", and last weekend she would not cool. This is the fourth time shes been to the shop with other problems such as the My Touch system..............
View 7 RepliesSo a few months ago I would occasionally hear what appeared to be a slight squealing noise from a pulley when I started my truck. It was very intermittent, so I didn't think much of it.
After a few weeks, I realized I was only hearing it on colder mornings - it would also go away rather quickly. I bought a mechanic's stethoscope, and figured I'd get to it on a slow day.
Today, I finally broke out the scope and tried to figure out the source. Didn't really find any pulleys making noise, and I did notice that when I shut the truck off, it squeaks for a second or two as it comes to a complete stop.
My dream of finding a bad pulley or perhaps a power steering pump was crushed. I had hoped to do a little Easter wrenching and put this noise to rest. So, I did what any good mechanic would do - I Googled the issue.
I'm reading that it could be the belt. Certainly wouldn't bother me too much as that is an easy fix. The belt isn't too old - about 4 years and 20 - 30K on it.
I took a few pics of the belt and can take a video of start/stop ....
I have a 2011 F250 4x4 with 8000 miles. I put a 3.5" ReadyLift on it at 3500miles and Rancho dual stabilizers at 5000miles. This past week I've started to noticed my truck's steering making slight popping noises when turning the steering wheel. I crawled under the truck today and I can't pin point the orgin of the noise. It seems it is coming from higher up in the steering system possibly. It doesn't seem to be from the wheels or tie rod.
View 14 Replies2002 Ford F250 4x4 Superduty Lariat (4 door). Just changed the locking hubs to a new set of Warn manuals. I began to periodically hear what sounds like a rumbling/bearingish/howling kinda sound. Happens when you hit a bump at any speed...then howls till you hit another bump..goes away..then process repeats. Come to a complete stop, and the sound usually goes away till you hit another bump. The hubs are "free" at this time.
Heres the weird thing...when the noise starts...I switch it into 4 wheel drive on the dash...the sound instantly goes away. Click it back outta 4 wheel drive (hubs are still unlocked this whole time) and the sound is gone. drive some more down the road, maybe hit a slight bump, and the sound returns. Switch it back into 4x4...sound instantly goes away. Its not really in 4 wheel drive, cause the hubs aren't locked in...but that cures it till I take it back out. What could be causing this howling ? Its getting worse, and you can feel a slight vibration in the floor now when its doing it.
I recently had a close encounter with some large rocks on a bad road and broke the power steering cooler. I lost some fluid and pressure as I had no brakes and it steered like a log truck. Replaced the damaged part and added fluid. I was informed by ford technician that air in the lines would make noise but would eventually work itself out. Well the brakes work and steering is getting better but it is noisy with steering and brakes. How long should it take to get the air out? PS the fluid looks foamy now. I should also mention it was making a slight humming noise before the incident with the rock.
View 9 RepliesSo sometimes the 4x4 takes awhile to engage. Both hubs are free turning (manual to auto). Drivers side only holds a few psi of vacuum. Passengers side 20ish. All seals have been replaced. Was tested right at the nipple on drivers side front. Switching hubs from side to side didn't change anything. 2 mechanics are unsure what to do aside from take a chance at replacing the wheel bearing. It does eventually go into 4x4 but takes awhile for 4x4 to engage and light on dash to come on.
View 14 RepliesI am in the process of replacing the front hub seals so my ESOF works again. I tested both front hubs with a mityvac and neither one of them holds any vacuum at all. All the lines are good, and the pump and solenoid seem to be working fine.
I have the driver's side apart and I have a couple of questions.
What's a good source for the vacuum seal? I've checked rockauto, riff raff, and diesel o-rings. Diesel o-rings has it, but the description says it's only for 2003+ Excursions so I didn't order it.
There is no yellow o-ring anywhere on the hub. I assume that someone forgot to put this o-ring back in and this is why I don't have ESOF? I guess what I really want to know is that there isn't some 2000-specific thing where there's no o-ring, right?
After I got the hub off, I spun it around on my workbench and it doesn't sound good at all. It makes a slight metallic grinding noise about 1/2 way around. I assume this isn't normal? AFAIK these are all original parts - but the missing o-ring means to me that someone already had it apart.
There was a lot of water intrusion and rusty colored grease but nothing was dry, the needle bearings were intact and the shaft isn't scored at all where the bearing rides. I'm hoping new seals and good cleaning and it should be good as new. And then it's off to the next side.
A bird and a rattle snake under hood, I've got a chirping when I turn, thus the bird. I've got a rattle on rough roads, thus the snake.
My guesses are... Power steering pump & front shocks. There's no other determinable problems with the steering or suspension on this 2WD.
230K on the ol' girl, previous owner took pretty good care of her.
just bought a 01 f350 v10, 40,000 miles, plowing beast, anyways when taking off truck seems sluggish, give it more gas as its fine. At idle there appears to be a skip. There are no check engine lights on, could it be the coil pack or even maybe fuel problem? Have done plenty to this beast to get it close to perfect and this motor issue is it.
View 14 Replies99 F250 7.3 everyday worker, just recently my tranny slipped as I was taking off from a light, I thought hmm that's odd! Pulled away from the next light , it did not slip! Later in the day did it again, so I ran by the transmission shop to have a service done, to my surprise I was told service would not work, and a rebuild was going to be 3200-4k. truck has been used lightly for the last week or so, slips sometimes and not others. I still believe I need to have it serviced? can I do this myself ( I haven't a clue)....

View 11 RepliesI am having a bit of an issue with my new to me 2002 F350 V10 Ford, I have noticed a few times in the when taking off (first time after being parked)the truck will not shift into over drive unless I cycle the button on the shifter, after that the OD seems to work fine for the rest of the trip. Second thing I noticed is the "OD" light on the end of the shifter will come on at times (indicating the OD is off) even when the truck is in over drive, wiggling the shifter makes the light go out and the truck will not change gears. Would a new gear shifter fix this as it is a bit sloppy?
View 3 RepliesNeed better understanding of the wiring and turn signal selector than I do in my 07 6.0 HD. At first the issue started with the right front and right mirror blinking fast indicating a burnt out rear right turn signal. However after a few seconds the right rear will start working and the speed would be normal. I noticed it worse on very wet days making me think the rear tail light was letting in water and messing with the bulb. But it turns out it does it on nice days too.
These days it has evolved into the turn signal sometimes taking a few seconds before any of the right side actually starts to flash, also sometimes the indicator does not automatically deactivate after a right turn.
Giving the bottom of the steering column a calibrated tap usually always fixes the issue until the next turn.
Assuming its a bad turn signal selector switch Part number YL3T-13K359-ABJAEA but not knowing the wiring diagram I dont see how this bad switch would intermittently stop controlling the right rear turn signal. I would guess that it would tell the flasher left or right, not which lefts and which rights.
Last night I was watching tv when my truck tried to start I thought I hit the remote start on my keys but it didn't start which I found weird. I went down stairs too see if it did anything else and it did it again it would turn over and turn over but never fire all while the keys are in my hand. At the same time the done light was stuck on and the radio went on and off. I'm pretty sure that my GEM got wet through the windshield, also Is the GEM dead or can it dry out and be ok

I have a slight vibration between 50 and 60 MPH. The vibration is the same weather I am accelerating, in Neutral, Coasting down (well, a little bit worse when coasting down), in 2WD, in 4WD, turning, going straight, hot or cold.
I have replaced the following:
Rear Driveshaft U-Joints
Tires and Rims
Upper and Lower Ball Joints
Wheel Bearings
Steering Stabilizer
Cleaned and Greased the Hubs
Greased everything greasable up front
I still have the exact same vibration as when I started. I can feel the vibration in the steering wheel as well as in the body of the vehicle. I am thinking that it may be in the steering linkage. If there is a loose joint then the wheels would be allowed to jiggle a little bit. I am at a loss. What else should I check?
Also, When doing the ball joints, I noticed that the tie rod ends were quite stiff. How stiff should these be? I can't move them by hand, but they will move a little bit when moving the free end of the tie rod.
I am taking it in for an alignment on Friday, and if I can't figure this vibration out, I might have them take a quick look into it. Would a stuck slide pin in the front brakes do this? Both sides on my truck are seized at the current moment.
I've got a 2006 SD Lariat, 6.0. The fan only comes on when turned to high. The display moves when the fan speed button is pressed, but nothing from the fan until high. I don't really know anything about the operation of these things, whether they run on a vacuum, or electric, or??? I'm not sure where to start with it.

Now it suddenly takes many cranks to finally start on a first start. (cold or warm days)....
I have a '99 F-250 super duty with a 5.4 L engine and I am having trouble starting it. Initially it wouldn't turn over at all, so I had the battery checked, it was fine, and after charging it the engine would turn over very, very slowly once or twice then stop. I then replaced the starter and now it turns over very erratically but wont start.
