I'm in the process of changing oil seals on my dually front end. Do I need to worry about backlash settings? I see the gears are attached with solid brackets, which I assume, as just torque to spec and not worry about backlash. What is the torque spec for the four bolts holding the gears/yoke in place?
View 2 RepliesI have a 03 super duty 3/4 with 45000 miles. I have squeaking sound coming from the front end. My local ford dealer says ford has been replacing those front axle seals but the noise comes back.They said the fix is to keep a dab of grease on them of which I.m doing.That does take care of it for awhile but the squeaking does come back until I put a dab of grease back on them.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2008 F-450 Lariat 6.4 4x4. I recently started noticing the front driver side wheel (best I can tell) wheel makes a noise as though it's binding uo when turning either direction, and I can feel it as well. 4wd is not activated and the hubs are in auto. When the front end is off the ground, I rotated the wheels and they spun independently unless the hubs were locked. I noticed what appear to be seals on both the driver and passenger side hanging loose (see pics). What this might be? I recently used the 4wd when we visited White Sands National Monument while pulling a 5th wheel RV.
View 9 RepliesI just bought a used 2013 F-250 4x4 and it came with the snow plow pkg. heavy duty front springs. I love the truck, but won't be plowing with it, and I don't need the rough ride (and don't like the look of the front end higher than the rear)
How hard is it to swap out the front coil springs and replace them with the "regular" ones?
Last night was changing front driver's side shock on my 2011 F250 PSD. Right front wheel still on ground and needed to turn wheel to right to better access shock mount. Started truck and turned the wheel all the way to the right and took the key out thinking the wheel would lock and I could change the shock easier. But the wheel didn't lock and actually spun itself almost a full turn after I took the key out...I'm assuming because the right wheel was still on the ground providing resistance, but I think the wheel lock may have broken.
Finished the shock and went to start, but nothing. Everything is clicking and buzzing like normal but wouldn't turn over. Checked all fuses that seemed pertinent but none were bad. Wasn't able to check any relays. Gave up and was going to have it towed.
Son and I had to straighten the wheel so I could roll in down the driveway and the dang thing started after the wheel was straight! Thought it was a fluke and parked it. This morning did the same thing so I cranked the wheel to the right and it started again. Now at work and thought I better check again and I can't get it to start for anything. The steering wheel lock seems to be busted and now I'm thinking it could be something in the steering column, but this is a little above my pay grade.
Need to get home tonight and was hoping my description would be enough to make a for sure diagnosis. Otherwise its getting towed to the shop and I'd rather fix it myself if i can.
So went back out and tried starting in neutral again, but this time fiddled with the shifter while turning the key...nothing again. Ran it up into park and tried it again and it started! Last night and this morning I didn't mess at all with the shifter, just manually turned the wheel with the engine off. This is the first time moving the shifter worked and I didn't turn the wheel at all this last time.
02 f250 SD...I need to change the front corner turn signal bulb... How the hell do I get to it? I see the grey plug that I need to take off in between the bottom of the light and bumper but have no clue how to get to it..and what is the bulb number?

What am I in for, I searched but couldn't find a step by step , how long does it take a back yard guy.
View 2 RepliesAny good remedy for constantly freezing door seals? I have a 06 extended cab and the rubber seal between the 2 doors makes an excellent "lock" when water freezes and all but welds the doors together. I damn near broke the paddle handle trying to pull on it. I wasn't keen on dumping water on the top of the seal since the glass is so cold and the water doesn't seem to penetrate anyway. I was thinking of wiping the seals heavily with anti-freeze? or motor oil? No, a garage is not an option.

View 2 RepliesI've got a 2006 SD Lariat, 6.0. The fan only comes on when turned to high. The display moves when the fan speed button is pressed, but nothing from the fan until high. I don't really know anything about the operation of these things, whether they run on a vacuum, or electric, or??? I'm not sure where to start with it.
View 14 RepliesMy 2001 f350 a/c blower works better on a/c compared to max a/c . When I turn the selector to max a/c it makes more of a blowing noise but less air blows out of the vents though. When I select plain a/c it makes less noise but blows more air out of the vents. What is wrong and how to go about fixing it is 93 here today and won't get much cooler over the summer months .

I think I'm going to pull the passenger fender liner to get to the lower plugs in the head.
How does the coil pigtail unclip? I looked at them briefly earlier and it looks like you pull the red tab back, then press down and pull on the pigtail but that did not work and I did not want to break anything.
I have erratic changing of directions of the air control. It'll be on ac it will then change to feet or defrost. then stay on that for a while and flip again. It'll then stay on that one( usually vents). I'm guessing the selector switch or the vacuum egr valve.

View 8 RepliesJust did my first oil change on my 2015 Super Duty 6.2 engine. I got the Fram filter the book called for, a PH-2. There's goobs of room for the longer filter. Would that be the PH8A? The book is about to trying to figure the comparable long vs short filter. Why do they insist on those short filters when a full size will fit? My Dodge Ram Hemi was the same way.

So, my question is, what is the computer using to decide when to tell you that you should change the oil? And, if you changed to a synthetic oil, could you go longer between changes? And, if so, would the truck's sensors be able to tell the difference in the type of oil being used?
